1 Reuben hoi Gad kaminawk mah Jazer hoi Gilead prae to hnuk o naah, kahoih parai maitaw pacahhaih ahmuen doeh a hnuk o;
Now the children of Reuben [See, a son!] and the children of Gad [Good fortune] had a very great multitude of livestock. When they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for livestock;
2 to pongah Reuben hoi Gad kaminawk angzoh o moe, Mosi, qaima Eleazar hoi Israel rangpui zaehoikungnawk khaeah lokthuih o,
the children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] came and spoke to Moses [Drawn out], and to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,
3 Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, Beon hoi,
“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
4 Israel kaminawk hmaa ah Angraeng mah tuk pae ih prae loe, moi pacah han hoih parai, na tamna kaicae loe pacah ih moi paroeai ka tawnh o;
the land which Adonai struck before the congregation of Israel [God prevails], is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
5 nangcae mikcuk naakrak ah ka oh o nahaeloe, hae praenawk hae na tamnanawk hanah qawk ah na paek ah, kaicae hae Jordan vapui angkatsak hmah, tiah a naa o.
They said, “If we have found chen ·grace· in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan [Descender].”
6 Mosi mah Gad hoi Reuben kaminawk khaeah, Nam nawkamyanawk loe misatuk naah caeh o, toe nangcae loe haeah nang hnut o sut han maw?
Moses [Drawn out] said to the children of Gad [Good fortune], and to the children of Reuben [See, a son!], “Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall you sit here?
7 Tipongah Angraeng mah nihcae khaeah paek ih prae thungah caeh hanah, Israel kaminawk tha na set o sak loe?
Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel [God prevails] from going over into the land which Adonai has given them?
8 Prae khet hanah nam panawk to Kadesh-Bernea hoi ka patoeh naah to tiah a oh o.
Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea [Consecrated Son-inconstant] to see the land.
9 Eskol azawn to phak o moe, prae to a hnuk o naah, Angraeng mah nihcae khaeah paek ih prae thungah akun hanah, Israel kaminawk to palungboeng o sak.
For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel [God prevails], that they should not go into the land which Adonai had given them.
10 To niah Angraeng palungphui o sak pongah, Anih mah lokkamhaih sak naah,
Adonai’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying,
11 nihcae loe palungthin boih hoi ka hnukah bang o ai pongah, mi kawbaktih doeh Izip prae thung hoi tacawt saning pumphaeto hoi ranuih bang kaom kaminawk boih, Abraham, Issak hoi Jakob khaeah paek han lokkam ih prae to hnu o mak ai;
‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham [Father of a multitude], to Isaac [Laughter], and to Jacob [Supplanter]; because they have not wholly followed me,
12 palungthin boih hoi Angraeng hnukah kabang, Keniz acaeng Jephunneh capa Kaleb hoi Nun capa Joshua khue ni prae to hnu tih, tiah thuih.
except Caleb [Dog] the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun; because they have followed Adonai completely.’
13 To pongah Angraeng Sithaw hmaa ah kasae sah kaminawk ih caanawk amrosak boih ai karoek to, praezaek ah saning qui palito thung amhetsak.
Adonai’s anger burned against Israel [God prevails], and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, who had done evil in Adonai’s sight, was consumed.
14 Khenah, nangcae loe vaihi nam panawk pongah na zae o kue, nam panawk zuengah nang thawk o moe, Israel kaminawk nuiah Angraeng palungphui aep han ih ni na sak o boeh.
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of men who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal·, to increase the fierce anger of Adonai toward Israel [God prevails].

For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all these people.”
16 To pacoengah Reuben hoi Gad kaminawk anih khaeah angzoh o moe, Hae ahmuen ah maitaw pacahhaih imnawk hoi nawktanawk ohhaih vangpuinawk to ka sak o han;
They came near to him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones;
17 toe Israel kaminawk angmacae ohhaih ahmuen ah thaak boih ai karoek to, maiphaw ka sinh o moe, Israel caanawk hma ah ka caeh o han; hae prae thungah kaom kaminawk pongah, aicae ih caanawk loe sipae thungh ih vangpuinawk thungah khosak o han oh.
but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel [God prevails], until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 Israel acaeng maeto boih mah qawktoep ai karoek to, im ah kam laem o mak ai.
We will not teshuvah ·completely return· to our houses, until the children of Israel [God prevails] have each inherited their inheritance.
19 Kaicae loe Jordan vapui zaeh ah nihcae hoi nawnto qawktoep han tidoeh om mak ai; Jordan vapui ni angyae bangah ni qawktoep han oh, tiah a naa o.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan [Descender], and forward; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan [Descender] eastward.”
20 To naah Mosi mah nihcae khaeah, Hae tiah oh pongah, maiphaw na sin o moe, Angraeng hmaa ah misatuk hanah na caeh o,
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Adonai to the war,
21 Angraeng mah a misanawk to a hmaa hoiah haek boih ai karoek to, Angraeng hmaa ah maiphaw sin hoi Jordan vapui nang kat o boih moe,
and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan [Descender] before Adonai, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
22 Angraeng hmaa ah prae na pazawk o nahaeloe, nam laem o let thai tih, to pacoengah loe Angraeng hoi Israel kaminawk hmaa ah zaehaih tidoeh na tawn o mak ai boeh; to naah hae prae loe Angraeng hmaa ah nangcae ih qawk ah om tih.
and the land is subdued before Adonai; then afterward you shall teshuvah ·completely return·, and be guiltless towards Adonai, and towards Israel [God prevails]; and this land shall be to you for a possession before Adonai.
23 Toe na sah o ai nahaeloe, khenah, nangcae loe Angraeng hmaa ah zaehaih na tawnh o pongah, na zae o haih mah nangcae to patom tih.
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)· against Adonai; and be sure your habitual sin ·missing the mark· will find you out.
24 Na caa nawktanawk hanah vangpuinawk, tuunawk hanah tuu imnawk to sah pae oh; pakha hoi na thuih o ih lok baktih toengah sah oh, tiah a naa.
Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.”
25 Gad hoi Reuben kaminawk mah Mosi khaeah, Na tamna kaicae loe ka angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah ka sak o han.
The children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying, “Your servants will do as my lord enjoins us.
26 Ka zu hoi ka caa nawktanawk, maitawnawk hoi tuunawk loe Gilead prae ih vangpuinawk thungah om o tih.
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
27 Toe ka angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, na tamna kaicae loe, maiphaw ka sinh o moe, misatuk hanah Angraeng hmaa ah Jordan vapui to kang kat o han, tiah a naa o.
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Adonai to battle, as my lord says.”
28 To kawng pongah Mosi mah, qaima Eleazar, Nun capa Joshua hoi Israel acaeng zaehoikung lu koeknawk khaeah, lokthuih pae;
So Moses [Drawn out] enjoined concerning them to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to Joshua [Yah Salvation] the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel [God prevails].
29 nihcae khaeah, Gad hoi Reuben kaminawk loe misatuk hanah Angraeng hmaa ah nangcae hoi nawnto Jordan vapui to angkat o boih moe, nangcae hmaa ah misa pazawk o nahaeloe, to Gilead prae to nihcae han qawk ah toep o sak ah:
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “If the children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] will pass with you over the Jordan [Descender], every man who is armed to battle, before Adonai, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30 toe nihcae mah maiphaw to sin o moe, nangcae hoi nawnto vapui angkat o ai nahaeloe, Kanaan prae ah ni nangcae salakah taham to tawn o tih, tiah a naa.
but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan [Humbled].”
31 Gad hoi Reuben kaminawk mah, Angraeng mah na tamnanawk khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, ka sak o han.
The children of Gad [Good fortune] and the children of Reuben [See, a son!] answered, saying, “As Adonai has said to your servants, so will we do.
32 Jordan vapui hae bang zaeh ih prae to ka toep o hanah, maiphaw sin hoi Angraeng hmaa ah Kanaan prae thungah ka kun o han, tiah a naa o.
We will pass over armed before Adonai into the land of Canaan [Humbled], and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan [Descender].”
33 Mosi mah Gad kaminawk, Reuben kaminawk hoi Joseph ih caa, ahap Manasseh acaengnawk khaeah, Amor siangpahrang Sihon prae thung ih vangpuinawk boih, Bashan siangpahrang Og prae thung ih vangpuinawk to paek boih.
Moses [Drawn out] gave to them, even to the children of Gad [Good fortune], and to the children of Reuben [See, a son!], and to the half-tribe of Manasseh [Causing to forget] the son of Joseph [May he add], the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers], and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.
34 Gad kaminawk mah Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
The children of Gad [Good fortune] built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Atroth, Shophan, Jaazer, Jogbehah,
Atrothshophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36 Beth-Nimrah hoi Beth-Haran vangpuinawk to sipae thungh o moe, pacah ih tuunawk han doeh im sak pae o.
Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran [Mountaineer]: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.
37 Reuben kaminawk mah Heshbon, Elealeh hoi Kirjathaim,
The children of Reuben [See, a son!] built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo hoi Baal-Meon (to vangpui ahmin loe athlaeng o ving boeh), Shibmah vangpui to sak o; a sak o ih vangpuinawk loe angmacae mah ni ahmin to sak o.
Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah. They gave other names to the cities which they built.
39 Manasseh capa Makir ih caanawk loe Gilead ah caeh o moe, vangpuinawk to lak o pacoengah, Amor kaminawk to haek o.
The children of Machir the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget] went to Gilead, took it, and dispossessed the Amorites [Descendants of Talkers] who were therein.
40 To pongah Mosi mah Gilead to Manasseh capa Makir hanah paek; anih loe to ah khosak.
Moses [Drawn out] gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget]; and he lived therein.
41 Manasseh capa Jair mah nihcae ohhaih ahmuen to tuk moe, a lak pacoengah Havoth-Jair, tiah ahmin sak.
Jair the son of Manasseh [Causing to forget] went and took its villages, and called them Havvoth Jair.
42 To pacoengah Nobah mah Kenath hoi a taengah kaom avangnawk to tuk moe, a lak pacoengah, angmah ih ahmin to sak.
Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
