Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
2 Israel kaminawk nuiah sak ih zaehaih baktih toengah, Midian kaminawk khaeah sah pathok ah; to pacoengah loe nangmah ih kaminawk khaeah la tih boeh, tiah a naa.
“Avenge the children of Israel [God prevails] for the Midianites [Descendants of Strife]. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”
3 To pongah Mosi mah kaminawk khaeah, Midian kaminawk nuiah Angraeng ih lu to lak moe, Midian kaminawk to tuk hanah, nangcae thung ih thoemto kaminawk maiphaw maica hoi amthoep oh.
Moses [Drawn out] spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian [Strife], to execute Adonai’s vengeance on Midian [Strife].
4 Israel acaeng thung hoi acaeng maeto mah kami sang to misatuk hanah patoeh oh, tiah a naa.
Of every tribe one thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel [God prevails], you shall send to the war.”
5 To pongah Israel acaeng maeto boih thung hoiah patoeh ih kami sang hatlai hnetto loe misatuk hanah angthawk o.
So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel [God prevails], a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6 Mosi mah to kaminawk to misatuk hanah acaeng maeto thung hoiah kami sangto patoeh; nihcae hoi nawnto mongkah ueng Eleazar capa qaima Phinehas to hmuenciim thung ih maiphaw maicanawk hoiah nawnto patoeh.
Moses [Drawn out] sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Pinchas [Bronze skin] the son of Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, to the war, with the utensils of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.
7 Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, nihcae mah Midian kaminawk to tuk o moe, nongpanawk to hum o boih.
They fought against Midian [Strife], as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out]. They killed every male.
8 A hum o ih kaminawk thungah Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur hoi Reba, Midian siangpahrang pangato athum o; nihcae mah Beor capa Balaam doeh sumsen hoiah hum o.
They killed the kings of Midian [Strife] with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian [Strife]. They also killed Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] the son of Beor with the sword.
9 Israel kaminawk mah Midian nongpatanawk hoi nawktanawk, nihcae ih hmuenmaenawk, maitawnawk hoi tuunawk to lomh pae o boih.
The children of Israel [God prevails] took the women of Midian [Strife] captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.
10 Midian kaminawk ohhaih vangpuinawk to hmai hoiah thlaek pae o boih; a ohhaih kahoih imnawk doeh thlaek pae o boih.
All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire.
11 A naeh o ih kaminawk, a lak o ih hmuennawk hoi pacah ih moinawk doeh lak pae o boih.
They took all the captives, and all the plunder, both of man and of animal.
12 Misong ah naeh o ih kaminawk hoi a lak pae o ih hmuennawk boih loe, Moab azawn ih Jordan vapui taeng, Jeriko vangpui zaeh ah kaom, Mosi, qaima Eleazar hoi Israel kaminawk khaeah a sinh pae o.
They brought the captives, and the prey, and the plunder, to Moses [Drawn out], and to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and to the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails], to the camp at the plains of Moab [From father], which are by the Jordan [Descender] at Jericho [Fragrant, Moon].
13 Mosi, qaima Eleazar hoi acaeng zaehoikung boih loe, nihcae tongh hanah ataihaih ahmuen tasa bangah caeh o.
Moses [Drawn out], and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.
14 To naah Mosi loe misatukhaih ahmuen hoiah amlaem misatuh angraengnawk, kami sangto ukkungnawk hoi kami cumvaito ukkungnawk nuiah palungphui.
Moses [Drawn out] was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.
15 Mosi mah nihcae khaeah, Nongpatanawk na pathlungh o boih maw? tiah a dueng.
Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Have you saved all the women alive?
16 Khenah, hae nongpatanawk loe Balaam ih lok to tahngaih o moe, Peor kawng pongah Israel kaminawk to Angraeng khae hoi loklam amkhraengs o sak boeh; to pongah Angraeng ih kaminawk salakah kasae nathaih to oh.
Behold, these caused the children of Israel [God prevails], through the counsel of Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people], to commit an unfaithful act against Adonai in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Adonai.
17 Vaihi nawktanawk salak ih nongpa to hum o boih ah; nongpa hoi nawnto iip nongpatanawk doeh hum o boih ah.
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.
18 Toe nongpa panoek vai ai tanglanawk loe nangmacae han suem oh.
But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19 Nangcae thungah mi kawbaktih doeh kami hum kami, to tih ai boeh loe hum ih kami qok sui kami to ataihaih im tasa bangah ni sarihto thung suem oh; ni thumto hoi ni sarihto naah nangmacae hoi na naeh o ih kaminawk boih ciimcaihaih to sah oh.
“Encamp outside of the camp seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, cleanse sin ·err (the standard goal)· from yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.
20 Nangmacae ih khukbuen, moihin hoi sak ih hmuennawk, maeh mui, thing hoi sak ih hmuennawk to ciimcai o sak ah, tiah a naa.
As to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood, you shall purify yourselves.”
21 To pacoengah qaima Eleazar mah misatuk han kacaeh misatuh kaminawk khaeah, Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah paek ih atawk loe hae tiah oh;
Eleazar [Help of God] the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the Torah ·Teaching· which Adonai has enjoined Moses [Drawn out]:
22 sui, sum kanglung, sum kamling, sum, camphaeh ngan hoiah kimah,
however the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 hmai kakaang thaih hmuennawk boih loe hmai hoiah qoeng ah, to tiah nahaeloe ciim tih; ciimsakhaih tui hoiah doeh pasae oh; hmai khaan thai ai hmuennawk loe tui hoiah pasae oh.
everything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be cleansed from sin ·err (the standard goal)· with the water for impurity. All that does not withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water.
24 Ni sarihto naah khukbuennawk to pasuk oh, to tiah nahaeloe na ciim o tih; to pacoengah loe ataihaih imthung ah nang zo o thai tih boeh, tiah a naa.
You shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. Afterward you shall come into the camp.”
25 Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah,
Adonai spoke to Moses [Drawn out], saying,
26 kaminawk mah lak o ih hmuenmaenawk to nangmah hoi qaima Eleazar hoi acaeng zaehoikung mah la oh loe,
“Count the plunder that was taken, both of man and of animal, you, and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation;
27 to hmuennawk to ahmuen hnetto ah tapraek ah; misatuk han caeh misatuh kaminawk hoi amkhueng kaminawk han tapraek paeh.
and divide the plunder into two parts: between the men skilled in war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.
28 Misatuk han kacaeh misatuh kaminawk loe kami doeh, maitaw doeh, laa hrang doeh, tuu doeh, cumvai pangato thungah maeto, Angraeng khaeah paek han oh;
Levy a tribute to Adonai of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.
29 nihcae mah hak ih tamut ahap to la ah loe, Angraeng taham to qaima Eleazar khaeah paek ah.
Take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, for Adonai’s wave offering.
30 Israel acaeng ahap khae hoiah, kami doeh, maitaw doeh, laa hrang doeh, tuu doeh, maeh doeh, kalah moinawk doeh, qui pangato thungah maeto la ah loe, to hmuennawk to Angraeng ih kahni im khenzawnkung Levinawk khaeah paek ah, tiah a naa.
Of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the livestock, and give them to the Levites [Descendants of United with], who perform the duty of Adonai’s tabernacle.”
31 To pongah Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Mosi hoi qaima Eleazar mah sak hoi.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest did as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
32 Misatuh kaminawk mah lak o ih kanghmat tuunawk loe sang cumvai taruk, sang qui sarih, sang pangato oh.
Now the plunder, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 Maitaw sing sarih, sang hnetto,
and seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
34 laa hrang sing taruk, sangto,
and sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 nongpa hoi iip vai ai nongpata sing thum, sang hnetto oh o.
and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him.
36 Misatuk naah kacaeh kaminawk ih taham ahap loe, tuu sing qui thum, sing thum, sang sarih, cumvai pangato,
The half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep:
37 Angraeng khaeah tathlang han ih hmuen loe cumvai taruk, qui sarih, pangato oh.
and Adonai’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five.
38 Maitaw sing thum, sang tarukto oh; to thung hoiah qui sarih, hnetto loe Angraeng khaeah paek han ih taham ah oh.
The cattle were thirty-six thousand; of which Adonai’s tribute was seventy-two.
39 Laa hrang sing thum, cumvai pangato oh; to thung hoiah Angraeng ih taham loe qui taruk, maeto;
The donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred; of which Adonai’s tribute was sixty-one.
40 kami loe singto pacoeng, sang tarukto oh; to thung hoiah Angraeng ih taham loe qui thum, hnetto.
The persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Adonai’s tribute was thirty-two persons.
41 Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Mosi mah Angraeng ih taham to qaima Eleazar khaeah paek.
Moses [Drawn out] gave the tribute, which was Adonai’s wave offering, to Eleazar [Help of God] the priest, as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
42 Mosi mah misatuh kaminawk khae hoiah lak moe, Israel kaminawk mah hak han koi ahap,
Of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, which Moses [Drawn out] divided off from the men who fought
43 rangpuinawk mah hak han koi ahap loe, tuu sang cumvai thum, sing thum, sang sarih, cumvai pangato;
(now the congregation’s half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 maitaw sing thum, sang tarukto,
and thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45 laa hrang sing thum, cumvai pangato hoi,
and thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,
46 kami singto pacoeng, sang tarukto oh.
and sixteen thousand persons),
47 Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Israel rangpui mah hak han koi taham ahap thung hoiah, Mosi mah kami maw, moi maw qui pangato thungah maeto lak moe, Angraeng ih kahni im khenzawnkung Levi kaminawk khaeah paek.
even of the children of Israel [God prevails]’s half, Moses [Drawn out] took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites [Descendants of United with], who performed the duty of Adonai’s tabernacle; as Adonai enjoined Moses [Drawn out].
48 To pacoengah misatuh sangto ukkungnawk hoi misatuh cumvaito ukkungnawk Mosi khaeah caeh o moe,
The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses [Drawn out].
49 anih khaeah, Na tammanawk mah misatuh kaminawk thung ih kami ka kroek o naah, maeto doeh anghmaa ai.
They said to Moses [Drawn out], “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our charge, and there lacks not one man of us.
50 To pongah Angraeng khaeah paek hanah sui hoiah sak ih hmuennawk, bungmunawk, ban lakoknawk, bantuetnawk, naa tangkraengnawk, hnah ah bangh koi hmuennawk to Angraeng hmaa ah angbawnhaih ah sak han ih kang sin o, tiah a naa o.
We have brought Adonai’s offering, what every man has gotten, of jewels of gold, armlets, and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Adonai.”
51 Mosi hoi qaima Eleazar mah nihcae ih suinawk to talawk pae hoi; ban tok sah kop kaminawk mah sak ih suinawk to talawk pae hoi.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest took their gold, even all worked jewels.
52 Mosi hoi qaima Eleazar mah misatuh kami sangto ukkungnawk hoi misatuh kami cumvaito ukkungnawk khae hoiah talawk ih Angraeng ih taham suinawk loe sangqum ah shekel sang hatlai taruk, cumvai sarih, qui pangato oh.
All the gold of the wave offering that they offered up to Adonai, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels [418.75 lb; 189.95 kg].
53 Misatuh kami maeto mah angmah hanah hmuen maeto lak o boih.
The men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.
54 Mosi hoi qaima Eleazar mah misatuh kami sangto hoi misatuh kami cumvaito ukkungnawk khae hoiah talawk hoi ih suinawk to Israel kaminawk mah panoek poe hanah amkhuenghaih kahni im ah Angraeng hmaa ah a sin hoi.
Moses [Drawn out] and Eleazar [Help of God] the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel [God prevails] before Adonai.
