< Nehemiah 8 >

1 Kaminawk boih angzoh o moe, tui khongkha hmaa ih loklam ah amkhueng o; Angraeng mah Israel caanawk khaeah paek ih, Mosi ih kaalok cabu to sinh hanah ca tarikkung Ezra khaeah thuih pae o baktih toengah,
All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the wide place that was in front of the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh had commanded to Israel.
2 khrah sarihto amtong tangsuekhaih niah, qaima Ezra mah kaalok to nongpa nongpatanawk hoi lok thaikop kaminawk boih hmaa ah sin pae.
Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.
3 Lok thaikop, nongpa hoi nongpatanawk hmaa ah akhawnbang hoi athun karoek to, tuipuek khongkha hmaa ih loklam ah a kroek pae; kaminawk boih mah kaalok cabu thung ih lok to palung tang hoi tahngaih pae o.
He read from it before the wide place that was in front of the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand. The ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.
4 Ca tarikkung Ezara loe nihcae mah thing hoi sak o ih hmaicam nuiah angdoet; a bantang bangah Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah hoi Maaseiah cae angdoet o moe, banqoi bangah Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkhiah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zekhariah hoi Meshullam cae to angdoet o.
Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5 Kaminawk mah anih hnuk o thai hanah, Ezra loe minawk pong sang kue ah angdoet, anih mah minawk hmaa ah cabu to paongh naah, kaminawk boih angdoet o.
Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the people), and when he opened it, all the people stood up.
6 Ezra mah kalen koek Sithaw, Angraeng to tahamhoihaih paek. To naah kaminawk boih ban payangh o moe, Amen! Amen! tiah pathim o: Mikhmai long ah akuep o moe, Angraeng to a bok o.
Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God. All the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped Yahweh with their faces to the ground.
7 Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah hoi Levinawk mah, kaminawk angmacae ahmuen ah angdoet o naah, kaalok panoek o thaih hanah abomh o.
Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law; and the people stayed in their place.
8 Nihcae mah Sithaw ih kaalok to kroek pae o, kroek o ih lok to a thaih o kop hanah, a thuih koehhaih lokhlong to kaminawk hanah kamtueng ah leh pae o.
They read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
9 Kaminawk mah kaalok to thaih o naah, qah o pongah, prae ukkung Nehemiah, ca tarikkung hoi qaima Ezra, patukkung, Levinawk mah, kaminawk boih khaeah, Vaihni loe Angraeng na Sithaw han ciimcaihaih niah oh; palungsae o sak hmah loe, qah o hmah, tiah naa o.
Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “Today is holy to Yahweh your God. Don’t mourn, nor weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.
10 Nehemiah mah, Caeh oh loe, caaknaek kahoih to caa oh, kaluep tui to nae oh; caaknaek tawn ai kaminawk han doeh paek oh; vaihni loe aicae Angraeng hanah ciimcaihaih niah oh; palungsae o hmah, Angraeng anghoehaih loe nangcae thacakhaih ah oh, tiah a naa.
Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”
11 Levinawk mah, Vaihni loe kaciim niah oh pongah, om o duem ah, palungsae o hmah, tiah a naa.
So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Hold your peace, for the day is holy. Don’t be grieved.”
12 Nihcae khaeah thuih pae ih lok to thaikop o pongah, kaminawk boih mah caak naek o, caaknaek tawn ai kaminawk han doeh caaknaek to paek o moe, kanawm ah poih to sak o.
All the people went their way to eat, to drink, to send portions, and to celebrate, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
13 Ni hnetto haih naah loe, kaalok amtuk hanah, acaeng ukkungnawk, qaimanawk hoi Levinawk boih ca tarikkung Ezra khaeah amkhueng o.
On the second day, the heads of fathers’ households of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Ezra the scribe, to study the words of the law.
14 To naah Israelnawk loe khrah sarihto haih poih sak naah impoem tetta thungah oh han angaih, tiah Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah paek ih kaalok cabu thungah tarik ih lok to a hnuk o.
They found written in the law how Yahweh had commanded by Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;
15 To lok to thaih o naah, cabu thung ih lok baktih toengah, impoem ta sak hanah, mae nuiah caeh oh loe, olive thing tanghang, hmaica thing tanghang, myrtle thing tanghang, ungsikung baktih kaom thing tanghangnawk hoi aqam kathah thing tanghangnawk to sin oh, tiah Jerusalem hoi angmacae ih vangpuinawk boih ah taphong o.
and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, branches of wild olive, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make temporary shelters, as it is written.”
16 To pongah kaminawk loe caeh o moe, thing tanghangnawk to sin o; imphu nuiah maw, to tih ai boeh loe angmacae im longhma, Sithaw im longhma, tuipuek khongkha longhma hoi Ephraim khongkha longhmaa ah impoem ta to a sak o.
So the people went out and brought them, and made themselves temporary shelters, everyone on the roof of his house, in their courts, in the courts of God’s house, in the wide place of the water gate, and in the wide place of Ephraim’s gate.
17 Misong hoi amlaem let kaminawk boih, impoem ta to sak o moe, a thungah anghnut o; Nun capa Joshua ih adungh hoi kamtong vaihni ni khoek to Israel caanawk mah to tiah sah o vai ai vop. Nihcae loe paroeai anghoehaih tawnh o.
All the assembly of those who had come back out of the captivity made temporary shelters and lived in the temporary shelters, for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.
18 Amtong tangsuekhaih ni hoi boenghaih ni khoek to nito pacoeng nito, Ezara mah Sithaw ih kaalok to kroek pae. Nihcae mah to poih to ni sarihto thung patoh o; ni tazetto naah loe, angmacae khosakhaih atawk baktiah, nawnto amkhuenghaih to a sak o.
Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
