< Nahum 1 >

1 Elkosh acaeng Nahum khaeah hnuksak ih cabu. Ninevah kawng pongah thuih ih lok loe hae tiah oh.
The burden of Nineve: the book of the vision of Naum the Elkesite.
2 Angraeng loe ut thaih, lu la thaih Sithaw ah oh; palungphui moe, lu la Angraeng ah oh; Angraeng loe a misanawk nuiah palungphui pongah, a misanawk nuiah lu la tih.
God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; the Lord avenges with wrath; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he cuts off his enemies.
3 Angraeng loe palungphui zoi ai, thacak parai moe, zaehaih sah kaminawk to thuitaek ai ah khen sut mak ai: a loklam loe kamhae takhi hoi takhi sae nuiah oh, tamainawk loe a khok ih maiphu ah ni oh o.
The Lord is long-suffering, and his power is great, and the Lord will not hold any guiltless: his way is in destruction and in the whirlwind, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
4 Tuipui to a zoeh moe, tui to kaangsak, tuipuinawk to a kaangsak boih. Bashan hoi Karmel to azaemsak moe, Lebanon ih apawk to a zaisak.
He threatens the sea, and dries it up, and exhausts all the rivers: the land of Basan, and Carmel are brought low, and the flourishing [trees] of Libanus have come to nought.
5 Maenawk loe a hmaa ah anghuen o moe, maesomnawk loe tui ah amzawt o, ue, long hoi a thungah kaom kaminawk boih a hmaa ah hmai mah kangh.
The mountains quake at him, and the hills are shaken, and the earth recoils at his presence, [even] the world, and all that dwell in it.
6 Anih palungphuihaih hmaa ah mi maw angdoe thai tih? Kanung parai anih palungphuihaih to mi mah maw pauep thai tih? Anih palungphuihaih loe hmai baktiah oh moe, anih hmaa ah loe thlungnawk doeh koih o boih.
Who shall stand before his anger? and who shall withstand in the anger of his wrath? his wrath brings to nought kingdoms, and the rocks are burst asunder by him.
7 Angraeng loe hoih, raihaih tongh naah abuephaih kahoih ah oh; anih tang kaminawk to a panoek.
The Lord is good to them that wait on him in the day of affliction; and he knows them that reverence him.
8 To ahmuen loe tui mah uem ueloe, boenghaih phasak tih; a misanawk to khoving thungah tanawt tih.
But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end: darkness shall pursue those that rise up against [him] and his enemies.
9 Tih pongah Angraeng misatuk hanah na poek o loe? Anih mah a misanawk to tamit boih tih; vai hnetto tamit han angai ai.
What do ye devise against the Lord? he will make a complete end: he will not take vengeance by affliction twice at the same time.
10 Nihcae loe maeto hoi maeto angzaeng caeng soekhring baktiah oh o, mu paquih hmoek kami baktiah oh o moe, hmai mah kangh ih anghnoeng baktiah oh o.
For [the enemy] shall be laid bare even to the foundation, and shall be devoured as twisted yew, and as stubble fully dry.
11 Angraeng to kasae thuih o moe, kasae poekhaih tawn kami maeto, nang thung hoiah angzoh boeh.
Out of thee shall proceed a device against the Lord, counselling evil things hostile [to him].
12 Angraeng mah, nihcae loe khosak hoih o moe, kami pop o parai cadoeh, amro o ueloe, anghma o boih tih. Kai mah nangcae to kang pacaekthlaek, toe natuek naah doeh kang pacaekthlaek let mak ai boeh.
Thus saith the Lord who rules over many waters, Even thus shall they be sent away, and the report of thee shall not be heard any more.
13 Vaihi anih ih hnam to nang khae hoiah ka vah moe, nang ih sumquinawk to ka takroek boih han, tiah thuih.
And now will I break his rod from off thee, and will burst [thy] bonds.
14 Angraeng mah nang kawng pongah lokpaek boeh; na hmin to om poe mak ai boeh: na sithaw imthung ah na soi o ih krang, na sak o cop ih krang to kang phraek pae boih han; na set o hmoek pongah, nang hanah taprong kang sak pae han.
And the Lord shall give a command concerning thee; there shall no more of thy name be scattered: I will utterly destroy the graven [images] out of the house of thy god, and the molten [images]: I will make thy grave; for [they are] swift.
15 Maenawk nuiah kahoih tamthanglok kasin, monghaih lok thui kaminawk ih khok to khen oh! Aw Judah, nangmah ih poih to uum ah loe, na sak ih lokkamhaih to pazui ah: kasae na misa loe amro boeh pongah, anih mah na prae to muk let mak ai boeh.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings glad tidings, and publishes peace! O Juda, keep thy feasts, pay thy vows: for they shall no more pass through thee to [thy] decay.
