1 Tiberius Caesar angraenghaih saning hatlai pangato nathuem ah, Pontius Pilat loe Judea prae ukkung angraeng ah oh moe, Herod loe Kalili prae ukkung ah oh, amnawk Philip loe Iturea hoi Traconitis prae ukkung ah oh, Lysinias loe Abilene prae ukkung ah oh,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2 Anna hoi Kaiapha kalen koek qaima ah oh hoi naah, praezaek ah kaom Zakaria ih capa Johan khaeah Sithaw ih lok to angzoh.
Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word (rhema) of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 Anih loe Jordan vapui taeng ih praenawk boih ah caeh moe, zae tahmen hanah dawnpakhuem tuinuemhaih lok to a taphong;
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 tahmaa Isaiah mah Cabu thungah, Praezaek ah kahang lok mah loe, Angraeng ih loklam to paroep oh loe, a caehhaih loklam to patoengh oh.
As it is written in the book of the words (logos) of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare all of you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5 Kathuk tangqom to patet o boih loe, maesang hoi maesomnawk boih to pahnaem oh; kangkawn loklamnawk to patoengh oh loe, kadue ai loklamnawk to adue o sak ah;
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6 to tih nahaeloe kami boih mah Sithaw pahlonghaih to hnu o tih, tiah tarik ih oh.
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
7 Angmah khaeah tuinuem han angzo kaminawk khaeah, Aw pahui caanawk, angzo han koi palungphuihaih cawnh taak hanah, mi mah maw acoehaih ang paek o?
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Dawnpakhuemhaih hoi kating athaih to athai oh, Kaicae loe kaimacae ih ampa Abraham ka tawnh o, tiah thui o hmah: kang thuih o, Sithaw mah loe hae thlungnawk mataeng doeh Abraham ih caa ah angcoengsak thaih.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 Vaihi loe thingkung tangzun taengah saka to suek boeh: kawbaktih thing doeh kahoih athaih athai ai thing loe pakhruk moe, hmai thungah vah, tiah a naa.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 To naah kaminawk mah anih khaeah, To tih nahaeloe timaw ka sak o han loe? tiah dueng o.
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11 Johan mah nihcae khaeah, Laihaw kalen hnetto tawn kami mah, katawn ai kami to paek nasoe loe, caaknaek tawn ai kami mah doeh to tiah sah toeng nasoe, tiah a naa.
He answers and says unto them, He that has two coats, let him impart to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
12 Tamut cong kaminawk doeh tuinuem hanah angzoh o, anih khaeah, Patukkung, kaicae loe timaw ka sak o han? tiah a naa o.
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 Tamut cong naah paek han koi pong kamthlai ah cong o hmah, tiah a naa.
And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14 Misatuh kaminawk doeh angzoh o moe, anih khaeah, Kaicae loe timaw ka sak o han? tiah a dueng o. Anih mah nihcae khaeah, Mi kawbaktih nuiah doeh tha patoh hoiah toksah o hmah, mi kawbaktih han doeh loktang ai ah kasae to net o hmah: na hnuk o ih toksakhaih atho hoiah poek mong oh, tiah a naa.
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
15 Kaminawk mah Johan loe Kri maw, Kri ai maw, tiah poekhaih palungthin a tawnh o;
And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16 Johan mah nihcae boih khaeah, Kai loe tui hoiah tuinuemhaih kang paek o; toe kai pong kalen kue maeto angzoh li, kai loe anih ih khokpanai qui khram pae han mataeng doeh kam cuk ai: anih mah loe Kacai Muithla hoi hmai hoiah tuinuemhaih na paek o tih:
John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I comes, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit (pneuma) and with fire:
17 Anih loe a ban ah paqa sin ueloe, cang to haw tih, athaih kataak cang to tapup thungah suem ueloe, canghii loe kadueh thai ai hmai hoiah thlaek tih, tiah a naa.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18 Anih mah kaminawk khaeah paroeai kalah thapaekhaih loknawk hoiah tamthanglok to thuih pae.
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
19 Toe prae ukkung Herod loe, amnawk Philip ih zu Herodia hoiah a sak ih kahoih ai hmuennawk boih pongah Johan mah zoeh pae,
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
20 Herod mah Johan to thongim pakhrak. pongah, anih loe a sak ih zaehaihnawk boih nuiah kangtha zaehaih mah thap pae aep.
Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 Kaminawk boih tuinuem o pacoengah, Jesu doeh tuinuem toeng, anih lawkthuih li naah, van to amongh,
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 to naah pahu baktih kaom Kacai Muithla to anghum tathuk moe, anih nuiah acuk, Nang loe kang palung duek ih ka Capa ah na oh; na nuiah paroeai kang hoe, tiah van bang hoiah lok to angzoh.
And the Holy Spirit (pneuma) descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
