1 Joshua duek pacoengah, Israel kaminawk mah Sithaw khaeah, Mi maw caeh hmaloe moe, kaicae han Kanaan kaminawk tuh pae tih? tiah a dueng o.
And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?
2 Angraeng mah, Judah to caeh tih; khenah, anih ban ah prae to ka paek boeh, tiah a naa.
And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.
3 To pacoengah Judah mah amnawk Simeon khaeah, Kai hoi nawnto Kanaan kaminawk tuk hanah, ka prae ah angzo tahang ah; kai doeh na prae ah kang zoh tathuk toeng han, tiah a naa. To pongah Simeon loe anih hoi nawnto caeh.
Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.
4 Judah caeh tahang naah, Angraeng mah Kanaan kaminawk hoi Periz kaminawk to nihcae ban ah paek pongah, Bezek vangpui ah kami sang hato a hum o.
And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.
5 To vangpui ah Adoni-Bezek to a hnuk o, Kanaan kaminawk hoi Periz kaminawk to hum o boih.
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Adoni-Bezek loe cawnh ving; toe nihcae mah patom o moe, naeh o pacoengah, a banpui hoi khokpui to takroek pae o pat.
But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.
7 To naah Adoni-Bezek mah, banpui hoi khokpui ka aah pae pat ih siangpahrang quisarihtonawk loe, kai ih caboi tlim ah caaknoinawk to akhuih moe, a caak o; nihcae nuiah ka sak ih hmuen baktih toengah, Sithaw mah ang sak pathok boeh, tiah a thuih. To pacoengah anih to Judah misatuh kaminawk mah Jerusalem ah hoih o moe, to ah a duek.
Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 Judah kaminawk mah Jerusalem vangpui to tuk o moe, a lak o; vangpui to sumsen hoiah tuk o pacoengah, hmai hoiah qoeng o.
And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.
9 To pacoengah Judah kaminawk loe prae aloih bang ih azawn hoi mae nuiah kaom, Kanaan kaminawk to tuk hanah caeh o tathuk.
And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.
10 Judah kaminawk loe canghniah Kiriath Arba, tiah kawk o ih, Hebron vangpui ah kaom Kanaan kaminawk tuk hanah caeh o moe, Sheshai, Ahiman hoi Talmai to hum o.
And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 To ahmuen hoiah caeh o let moe, canghniah Kiriath-Sepher, tiah kawk o ih Debir vangpui ah kaom kaminawk to a tuk o.
And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.
12 To naah Kaleb mah, Kiriath-Sepher to tuk pazawk kami loe, ka canu Aksah zu ah ka paek han, tiah thuih.
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.
13 Kaleb ih amnawk, Kenaz capa Othniel mah tuk moe, pazawk; to pongah Kaleb mah a canu to anih hanah paek.
Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.
14 A zu loe Othniel khaeah caeh moe, anih khaeah kam pa khaeah caeh loe, lawk hmuen maeto hni ah, tiah a thuih pae; anih laa hrang nui hoi anghum tathuk naah, Kaleb mah a canu khaeah, Timaw na koeh? tiah a naa.
And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?
15 A canu mah anih khaeah, Tahamhoihhaih na paek ah, tiah a naa. Aloih bang ih lawk hmuen nang paek pongah, tuipuek doeh na paek let bae ah, tiah a hnik. To pongah ampa Kaleb mah aluek bang hoi aloih bang ih tuipuek to paek hmaek.
And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.
16 Mosi amsae, Ken kaminawk loe, Judah kaminawk hoi nawnto ungsikung vangpui hoi Arad vangpui aloih bangah kaom, Judah praezaek ah caeh o moe, khosak o.
Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.
17 To naah Judah loe amnawk Simeon hoi nawnto caeh moe, Zephath vangpui ah kaom Kanaan kaminawk to a tuk hoi pacoengah, vangpui to paro hoi boih; to pongah to vangpui to Hormah, tiah kawk o.
Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 Judah kaminawk mah Gaza hoi a taeng ih ahmuen, Ashkelon hoi a taeng ih ahmuen, Ekron hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk to lak o.
And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.
19 Angraeng loe Judah khaeah oh pongah, mae nuiah kaom kaminawk to a haek o boih; toe azawn ah kaom kaminawk loe sum hoi sak ih hrang lakok a tawnh o pongah haek o thai ai.
And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.
20 Mosi mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Anak capa thumtonawk loe to ahmuen hoiah haek moe, Hebron vangpui to Kaleb hanah paek.
So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.
21 Toe Benjamin kaminawk loe, Jerusalem ah kaom Jebus kaminawk to haek o ai; to pongah vaihni ni khoek to Jebus kaminawk loe Benjamin kaminawk hoi nawnto oh o.
But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.
22 To pacoengah Joseph imthung takoh mah Bethel to tuk o; Angraeng mah nihcae to oh thuih.
Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.
23 Canghniah Luz, tiah kawk o ih, Bethel to paro hanah, Joseph imthung takoh mah kami to patoeh.
And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.

So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.
25 To pongah anih mah nihcae hanah vangpui caehhaih loklam to patuek pae, nihcae mah vangpui to sumsen hoiah tuk o; toe lam patuek kami loe angmah hoi angmah ih imthung takoh boih hinghaih pathlung pae o.
And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.
26 To pacoengah to kami loe Hit kaminawk ohhaih ahmuen ah caeh moe, vangpui maeto a sak, to vangpui to Luz, tiah ahmin paek; to ahmin loe vaihni ni khoek to oh.
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.
27 Toe Manasseh mah loe Beth-Shan vangpui taeng ih ahmuennawk, Taanak vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Dor vangpui hoi a taengah kaom kaminawk, Ibleam vangpui hoi a taengah kaom kaminawk, Meggido vangpui hoi a taengah kaom kaminawk to haek ai; Kanaan kaminawk loe to prae thungah khosak o.
But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;
28 Israel kaminawk loe thacak naah, Kanaan kaminawk to haek o ai; toe tamut to paek o sak.
when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.
29 Ephraim mah doeh Gezer vangpui ah kaom Kanaan kaminawk to haek ai; Kanaan kaminawk loe Gezer kaminawk hoi nawto khosak o poe.
And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.
30 Zebulun mah doeh Kitron hoi Nahalol ah kaom Kanaan kaminawk to haek ai; Kanaan kaminawk loe nihcae khaeah oh o poe. Toe tamut to paeksak.
Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.
31 Asher kaminawk mah doeh, Akko, Sidon, Ahab, Akzib, Helbah, Aphek, Rehob vangpui ah kaom kaminawk to haek o ai;
Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
32 To pongah Asher kaminawk loe, Kanaan kaminawk hoi nawnto khosak o.
but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.
33 Naphtali mah doeh Beth-Shemesh, Beth-Anath vangpui ah kaom kaminawk to haek ai; Naphtali kaminawk loe Kanaan kaminawk ohhaih prae ah oh o; Beth-Shemesh hoi Beth-Anath ah kaom kaminawk mah nihcae khaeah tamut to paek o.
Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.
34 Amor kaminawk loe Dan acaengnawk to mae bangah haek o; nihcae to azawn ah angzo o sak ai;
And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;
35 Amor kaminawk loe Heres mae ih vangpui Aijalon, Shaalbim ah khosak o; toe Joseph imthung takoh mah nihcae to pazawk moe, tamut paeksak.
and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.
