< Joshua 8 >

1 To pacoengah Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah, Zii hmah loe, palung doeh boeng hmah; angthawk ah, misatuh kaminawk boih to kawk loe, Ai vangpui tuk hanah caeh tahang ah; Ai vangpui ukkung siangpahrang, anih ih kaminawk, anih ih vangpui hoi a prae to na ban ah kang paek boeh.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. Look, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, with his people, his city, and his land.
2 Jeriko vangpui hoi a siangpahrang nuiah na sak o ih baktih toengah, Ai vangpui hoi siangpahrang nuiah doeh sah ah; toe na lomh o ih hmuen hoi moinawk loe nangmacae hanah sin oh; vangpui hnukbang ah misatoep kami to suem oh, tiah a naa.
You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except its spoil and its livestock, you shall take for a plunder for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it."
3 To pongah Joshua loe angthawk moe, Ai vangpui to tuk hanah angmah ih misatuh kaminawk boih hoi nawnto caeh o; misatuk kop kami sang quithumto a qoih pacoengah, nihcae to aqum ah patoeh.
So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.
4 Joshua mah nihcae khaeah, Khenah, To vangpui to tuk hanah vangpui hnukbang ah misatoep kami to suem oh; vangpui hoi kangthla ah caeh o hmah; acoehaih hoiah om oh;
He commanded them, saying, "Look, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
5 kai hoi ka taengah om kaminawk boih loe, vangpui thungah ka caeh o han; canghniah vangpui kaminawk mah ang tuk o nathuem ih baktih toengah, nihcae mah kaicae tuk han angzoh o naah, kaicae loe nihcae hmaa ah ka cawnh pae o han,
I, and all the people who are with me, will approach to the city. It shall happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6 nihcae vangpui tasa bang tacawt o thai hanah, vangpui hoi kangthla ahmuen ah ka zoek o han; to naah nihcae mah, Canghni ih baktih toengah aicae hmaa ah a cawnh o boeh, tiah thui o tih: nihcae hmaa ah to tiah ka cawnh pae o han.
They will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, 'They flee before us, like the first time.' So we will flee before them,
7 To naah na ngang o haih ahmuen hoiah angthawk oh loe, vangpui to la oh; na Angraeng Sithaw mah nangcae ban ah paek tih.
and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 Vangpui na lak o pacoengah, hmai hoiah qoeng oh; Angraeng mah paek ih lok baktih toengah sah oh; khenah, kang paek ih lok na panoek o boeh, tiah a naa.
It shall be, when you have seized on the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to the word of the LORD. Look, I have commanded you."
9 To pacoeng ah Joshua mah nihcae to patoeh; nihcae loe misa angang hanah Bethel hoi Ai salak, Ai vangpui niduem bangah caeh o; toe Joshua loe to naduem ah kaminawk hoi nawnto oh.
Joshua sent them out; and they went to set up the ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua stayed among the people that night.
10 Joshua loe khawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk moe, kaminawk to kroek; anih loe Israel kacoehtanawk hoi nawnto kaminawk hmaa ah, Ai vangpui ah caeh o tahang.
Joshua rose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders, before the people to Ai.
11 Angmah khae kaom misatuh kaminawk boih hoi nawnto vangpui to anghnaih o thuih, vangpui hmabang ah phak o moe, Ai vangpui aluek bangah atai o; nihcae hoi Ai vangpui salakah azawn to oh.
All the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.
12 Ai vangpui niduem bang, vangpui hoi Bethel salakah misatoep kami suek hanah, kami sang pangato a kawk.
He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 Misatuh kaminawk to vangpui aluek bangah a suek boih, vangpui niduem bangah doeh misa angang kaminawk to a suek; to na aqum ah Joshua loe azawn ah caeh.
So they set the people, even all the army who was on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 Ai siangpahrang mah nihcae to hnuk naah, angmah hoi vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk boih loe khawnthaw ah angthawk o moe, Israel kaminawk to tuk hanah atue khaehhaih atue to phak naah, karangah azawn ah caeh o; toe vangpui hnukbang ah angang kaminawk oh o, tiah anih mah panoek ai.
And it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that he hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out to engage them directly in battle, he and all his people, to the meeting place in front of the Arabah; but he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15 Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk loe misatuk sung baktiah angsak o moe, nihcae mikhnuk ah praezaek loklam hoiah a cawnh o.
Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 Nihcae patom hanah Ai vangpui thung ih kaminawk boih angkawk o; vangpui thung hoiah tacawt o moe, Joshua to patom o.
All the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 Ai vangpui hoi Bethel vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk thungah, Israel kaminawk patom ai kami maeto doeh om o ai; vangpui to tacawt o taak boih moe, Israel kaminawk to patom o.
There was not a man left in Ai or Beth El who did not go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.
18 To naah Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah, Na ban ih tayae to Ai vangpui bangah phok ah; vangpui to na ban ah kang paek han boeh, tiah a naa. To pongah Joshua mah a ban ih angmah ih tayae to phok moe, vangpui bangah a ban to payangh.
The LORD said to Joshua, "Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
19 Joshua mah ban payangh naah, misa angang kaminawk loe angmacae ohhaih ahmuen hoiah karangah angthawk o, vangpui thungah akun o moe, vangpui to lak o pacoengah, hmai hoiah qoeng o.
The ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it. They hurried and set the city on fire.
20 Ai vangpui ih kaminawk hnukbang angqoi o naah, khenah, van ah angthawk tahang vangpui thung ih hmaikhue to a hnuk o; to naah nihcae loe kawbaktih loklam hoiah doeh loih thaihaih roe om ai boeh; praezaek ah kacawn Israel kaminawk mah nihcae patom vangpui kaminawk to patom o moe, hum o.
When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and look, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
21 Misa angang kaminawk mah vangpui to lak o boeh moe, van ah angthawk tahang hmaikhue to Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk boih mah hnuk o naah, amlaem o moe, Ai vangpui ih kaminawk to hum o.
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and killed the men of Ai.
22 Misa angang kaminawk doeh vangpui thungah akun o moe, vangpui kaminawk to tuk o; Israel kaminawk mah ahnuk ahmaa hoiah tuk o pongah, nihcae loe aum ah oh o sut; Israel kaminawk mah nihcae to hum o; maeto doeh pathlung o ai, maeto doeh loih o sak ai.
The others came out of the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side. They struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 Toe Ai siangpahrang loe kahing ah naeh o moe, Joshua khaeah caeh o haih.
They captured the king of Ai alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 Israel kaminawk mah Ai vangpui ih kaminawk to patom o moe, taw hoi praezaek ah hum o boih; nihcae to sumsen hoiah hum o boih pacoengah, Israel kaminawk loe Ai vangpui hoi amlaem o let moe, vangpui thung kaom kaminawk boih sumsen hoiah hum o.
And it came to pass when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the plains, and on the mountain on the slope, where they pursued them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed, then all Israel returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.
25 To na niah nongpa hoi nongpata sang hatlai hnetto a hum o; Ai vangpui ah kaom kaminawk loe duek o boih.
All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26 Ai vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk hum boih ai karoek to, Joshua mah a ban to phok, payangh ih tayae to azuk let ai.
For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Toe Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah, Israel kaminawk mah vangpui thungah pacah ih moinawk hoi hmuenmaenawk boih to angmacae han lak o.
Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
28 Joshua mah Ai vangpui to hmai hoiah qoeng o, to ahmuen loe vaihni ni khoek to kamro hmuenmae tapophaih ahmuen ah oh.
So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.
29 Ai vangpui siangpahrang to duembang khoek to, thing pongah a bangh; duembang phak naah loe anih ih qok to lak moe, vangpui khongkha taengah vah sut hanah, Joshua mah lokpaek; anih ih qok nuiah kalen parai thlung to tapop o; to tiah tapop ih thlung to vaihni ni khoek to oh vop.
He hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening, and at the sundown Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and threw it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on it that remains to this day.
30 To naah Joshua mah Ebal mae ah Israel Angraeng Sithaw hanah hmaicam maeto sak.
Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal,
31 Israel kaminawk hanah Angraeng ih tamna Mosi mah paek ih lok baktih, Mosi kaalok cabu pongah tarik ih baktih toengah, anih mah hmaicam maeto sak; to hmaicam loe mi mah doeh sum hoi takhuek vai ai ih thlung, ahmaa om ai thlung hoiah a sak; to hmaicam nuiah Angraeng hanah hmai angbawnhaih hoi angdaeh angbawnhaih to a sak.
as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, "an altar of uncut stones, on which no man has touched with an iron tool." They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 Israel kaminawk mikhnukah, Joshua mah to thlung nuiah Mosi mah paek ih kaalok to tarik pakong let.
He wrote there on the stones a copy of the Law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 Israel kaminawk tahamhoihaih paek hanah, Angraeng ih tamna Mosi khaeah thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah, Israel kaminawk boih, angraengnawk, kacoehtanawk, lokcaekkungnawk, nihcae salakah tapen kaminawk doeh, Levi acaeng qaimanawk mah aput o ih Angraeng lokkamhaih thingkhong hae bang hoi ho bangah angdoet o; qaimanawk loe aum ah angdoet o; kami ahap Gerizim mae bangah angdoet o moe, kami ahap Ebal mae bangah angdoet o.
All Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the cohanim the Levites, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the children of Israel.
34 To pacoengah kaaloknawk boih, kaalok cabu thungah tarik ih loknawk baktih toengah, tahamhoihaih hoi tangoenghaih to Joshua mah kroek pae.
Afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 Joshua loe Mosi mah paek ih lok maeto doeh tahmat ai; Israel kaminawk, nongpatanawk, nawktanawk hoi nihcae khae kaom angvinnawk hmaa ah kroek pae boih.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the foreigners who were among them.
