< Joshua 4 >
1 Kaminawk boih Jordan vapui angkat o pacoengah, Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah,
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
2 kaminawk salak hoi kami hatlai hnetto, acaeng maeto thung hoi kami maeto qoih pacoengah,
“Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe,
3 Jordan vapui um qaimanawk angdoethaih ahmuen ih, thlung hatlai hnetto to la oh loe apu oh; vaiqum na iih o haih ahmuen ah to thlungnawk to suem oh, tiah a naa.
and command them: ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests were standing, carry them with you, and set them down in the place where you spend the night.’”
4 To pongah Joshua mah Israel kaminawk ih acaeng maeto thung hoiah kami maeto kawk moe,
So Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe,
5 nihcae khaeah, Na Angraeng Sithaw thingkhong ih ahmaa, Jordan vapui um ah caeh oh loe, Israel acaeng zetto ah kami maeto mah thlung maeto apu oh;
and said to them, “Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of Israel,
6 to thlung loe nangcae salakah angmathaih ah om tih; hmabang ah na caanawk mah, Hae thlung loe tih thuikoehhaih ih aa? tiah na dueng o nahaeloe,
to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
7 nangcae mah nihcae khaeah, Angraeng lokkamhaih thingkhong Jordan vapui angkat naah, a hmaa ah Jordan vapui tui to apet; Jordan vapui apet ving pongah, hae loe Israel kaminawk hanah dungzan panoek poehaih thlung ah om tih, tiah thui pae oh, tiah a naa.
you are to tell them, ‘The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters were cut off.’ Therefore these stones will be a memorial to the Israelites forever.”
8 Joshua mah paek ih lok baktih toengah Israel kaminawk mah sak o; Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah, Israel acaengnawk zetto ah, Jordan vapui um ah thlung hatlai hnetto akhuih o; to thlung to angmacae ohhaih ahmuen ah sinh o moe, to ah a suek o.
Thus the Israelites did as Joshua had commanded them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each tribe of Israel, just as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them to the camp, where they set them down.
9 Joshua mah lokkamhaih thingkhong apu qaimanawk angdoethaih ahmuen Jordan vapui um ah, thlung hatlai hnetto a tlingh; to thlung loe vaihni ni khoek to oh.
Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood. And the stones are there to this day.
10 Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah paek ih lok baktih, Mosi mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, kaminawk mah sah o boih ai karoek to, Angraeng lokkamhaih thingkhong apu qaimanawk loe Jordan vapui um ah angdoet o, to naah kaminawk loe karangah angkat o.
Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until the people had completed everything the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell them, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried across,
11 Kaminawk angkat o boih pacoengah, Angraeng lokkamhaih thingkhong hoi qaimanawk loe, kaminawk mikhnuk ah nawnto angkat o.
and after everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
12 Mosi mah nihcae khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk loe, maiphaw maica to sin o moe, Israel kaminawk hmaa ah angkat o.
The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over before the Israelites, armed for battle as Moses had instructed them.
13 To tiah misatuk han caeh kaminawk loe, kami sang quipalito oh o moe, misatuk han Angraeng hmaa ah Jeriko azawn bangah angkat o.
About 40,000 troops armed for battle crossed over before the LORD into the plains of Jericho.
14 To na niah Israel kaminawk mikhnuk ah Angraeng mah Joshua to tapom tahang; nihcae mah Mosi zit o baktih toengah, hing thung Joshua doeh a zit o.
On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they revered him all the days of his life, just as they had revered Moses.
15 To naah Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah,
Then the LORD said to Joshua,
16 hnukung ah kaom thingkhong apu qaimanawk to, Jordan vapui hoi angzoh tahang han lokpaek ah, tiah a naa.
“Command the priests who carry the ark of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan.”
17 To pongah Joshua mah qaimanawk khaeah, Jordan vapui thung hoi angzo o tahang ah, tiah a naa.
So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up from the Jordan.”
18 Angraeng lokkamhaih thingkhong apu qaimanawk vapui thung hoi angzoh o tahang moe, tuicing to khok hoi a cawh o naah, Jordan vapui to angmah ih ahmuen ah amlaem let moe, canghni ah longh baktiah a longh let.
When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
19 Khrah tangsuek ni hatlai hnetto naah, Jeriko ni angyae bang ramri ah kaom, Gilgal ah atai o.
On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
20 To naah Jordan vapui thung hoi akhuih o ih thlung hatlai hnetto to, Joshua mah Gilgal ah tlingh.
And there at Gilgal Joshua set up the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.
21 Anih mah nihcae khaeah, Israel kaminawk khaeah, Hmabang ah na caanawk mah ampanawk khaeah, Hae ih thlungnawk loe tih thuikoehhaih ih aa? tiah dueng o nahaeloe,
Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’
22 Israel kaminawk loe hae Jordan vapui hae saoeng ah caeh baktih toengah angkat o, tiah thui pae oh.
you are to tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
23 Aicae mah tuipui kathim angkat o boih ai karoek to, na Angraeng Sithaw mah aicae hmaa ah tuipui kathim tui to kaangsak baktih toengah, Jordan vapui nang kat o boih ai karoek to, na Angraeng Sithaw mah nangcae hmaa ah Jordan vapui tui to kaangsak.
For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as He did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over.
24 Angraeng ih ban loe thacak, tiah long kaminawk boih mah panoek o moe, na Angraeng Sithaw to dungzan khoek to na zit o thai han ih ni, hae tiah a sak, tiah a naa.
He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God.”
