< Joshua 24 >
1 Joshua mah Israel acaengnawk to Shekem vangpui ah amkhuengsak boih; kacoehtanawk, zaehoikungnawk, lokcaekkungnawk hoi ukkungnawk to a kawk moe, Angraeng hmaa ah amkhueng o.
Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.
2 Joshua mah kaminawk boih khaeah, Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah hae tiah thuih; Canghniah Abraham hoi Nahor ampa Terah hoi nangcae ih amsaenawk loe, vapui yaeh ah khosak o moe, kalah prae kaminawk ih sithawnawk to a bok o.
And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.
3 Toe nam pa Abraham to vapui yaeh hoiah ka lak moe, Kanaan prae thung boih ah ka zaeh; anih ih atii to ka pungsak moe, anih hanah Issak to ka paek.
But I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I multiplied his descendants. I gave him Isaac,
4 Issak hanah Jakob hoi Esau to ka paek; Esau mah qawk ah toep hanah Seir maeto ka paek, toe Jakob hoi a caanawk loe Izip prae ah caeh o tathuk.
and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau Mount Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
5 To pacoengah Mosi hoi Aaron to ka patoeh; Izip kaminawk mah sak o ih hmuen baktih toengah, Izip prae to raihaih ka paek; to pacoengah nangcae to kang hoih o.
Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.
6 Nam panawk to Izip prae thung hoi ka zaeh naah, tuipui to a phak o; to naah Izip kaminawk mah nam panawk to hrang lakok hoiah hrang angthueng kaminawk mah tuipui kathim khoek to patom o.
When I brought your fathers out of Egypt and you reached the Red Sea, the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.
7 Toe nihcae mah Angraeng khaeah hangh o naah, anih mah nangcae hoi Izip kaminawk salakah vinghaih to phaksak moe, nihcae to tui uemsak boih; Izip prae ah ka sak ih hmuen to na hnuk o boeh; to pacoengah nangcae loe praezaek ah saning kasawkah na oh o.
So your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
8 Jordan vapui yaeh ah kaom, Amor kaminawk ih prae ah kang caeh o haih; nihcae mah ang tuk o naah, nihcae to nangcae ban ah kang paek moe, nihcae ih prae to na lak o; nihcae to nangcae hmaa roe ah kam rosak.
Later, I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should possess their land when I destroyed them before you.
9 Moab siangpahrang, Zippor capa Balak mah angthawk moe, Israel kaminawk tuk naah, nangcae tangoengsak hanah Beor capa Balaam to a kawksak;
Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,
10 toe Baalam ih lok to ka tahngai pae ai; anih mah tahamhoihaih ang paek o; to pongah anih ban thung hoiah nangcae to kang pahlong o.
but I would not listen to Balaam. So he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.
11 To pacoengah Jordan vapui to nang kaat o moe, Jeriko na phak o naah, Jeriko kaminawk, Amor kaminawk, Periz kaminawk, Kanaan kaminawk, Hit kaminawk, Girgash kaminawk, Hiv kaminawk hoi Jebus kaminawk mah ang tuk o; toe nihcae to nangcae ban ah kang paek.
After this, you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I delivered them into your hand.
12 Nangcae loe sumsen hoi kalii to na sin o ai, nangcae hmaa ah khoi to ka patoeh moe, Amor siangpahrang hnetto nangcae hmaa ah kang haek pae.
I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your own sword or bow.
13 To pongah na sak o ai ih lawk hoi na sak o ai ih vangpuinawk to kang paek o moe, athung ah na oh o; nangcae mah na tling o ai ih, misur thaih hoi olive thaih to na caak o, tiah a thuih.
So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’
14 To pongah Angraeng to zii oh loe, loktang hoi oepthohhaih hoiah a tok to sah oh; nam saenawk mah Izip prae hoi vapui yaeh ah bok o ih sithawnawk to pahnawt oh loe, Angraeng ih tok to sah oh.
Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
15 Toe Angraeng ih toksak loe hoih ai, tiah na poek o moe, vapui yaeh ah nam panawk mah bok o ih sithawnawk ih tok, to tih ai boeh loe vaihi na oh o haih Amor prae kaminawk mah bok o ih sithawnawk ih tok to na sak o han maw? Vaihniah qoi oh! Toe kai hoi ka imthung takoh loe, Sithaw tok ni ka sak o han, tiah a naa.
But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
16 To naah kaminawk mah, Kalah sithawnawk ih toksak hanah, Angraeng to ka pahnawt o mak ai;
The people replied, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!
17 aicae Angraeng Sithaw, Anih mah ni aicae hoi aicae ampanawk to misong ah ohhaih, Izip prae thung hoiah zaeh moe, aicae mikhnuk ah kalen parai angmathaihnawk to sak; a caeh o haih ahmuen kruek, prae kaminawk salakah a caeh o naah doeh, anih mah ni ang pakaa.
For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.
18 Angraeng mah prae kaminawk to aicae hmaa hoiah haek; hae prae thungah kaom Amor kaminawk doeh a haek; anih loe kaicae ih Sithaw ah oh pongah, Angraeng ih tok ni ka sak o han, tiah a naa o.
And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!”
19 Joshua mah kaminawk khaeah, Angraeng ih tok na sah o thai mak ai; anih loe ciimcai Sithaw ah oh moe, ut panoek Sithaw ah oh; anih mah na sak o pazae ih zaehaihnawk to tahmen mak ai.
But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins.
20 Anih loe nangcae nuiah kahoih hmuen to sak, toe Angraeng to na pahnawt o moe, prae kalah sithawnawk ih tok to na sak o taak ving nahaeloe, nangcae to angqoi taak ueloe, nangcae nuiah amrohaih phaksak pacoengah, nangcae to tamit boih tih, tiah a naa.
If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.”
21 Toe kaminawk mah Joshua khaeah, To tih na ai ni! Angraeng ih tok ni ka sak o han, tiah a naa o.
“No!” replied the people. “We will serve the LORD!”
22 To naah Joshua mah kaminawk khaeah, Angraeng toksak han na qoih o boeh pongah, nangmacae roe to hnukung ah na oh o boeh, tiah a naa. Nihcae mah, Kaimacae hae hnukung ah ka oh o boeh, tiah a naa o.
Then Joshua told them, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “We are witnesses!” they said.
23 To naah Joshua mah, To tih nahaeloe nangcae salakah kaom prae kalah kaminawk ih sithawnawk to vaihi va o boih loe, Israel Angraeng Sithaw bangah na poekhaih palungthin to suem oh, tiah a naa.
“Now, therefore,” he said, “get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.”
24 Kaminawk mah Joshua khaeah, Ka Angraeng Sithaw ih tok to ka sak o moe, a lok ka tahngaih pae o han, tiah a naa o.
So the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice.”
25 To pongah to na niah, Joshua mah kaminawk hoi lokmaihaih to sak moe, Shekem vangpui ah nihcae han lokmaihhaih daan hoi toksakhaih atawk to a sak pae.
On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he established for them a statute and ordinance.
26 Joshua mah hae ih loknawk hae Angraeng ih kaalok cabu thungah tarik pae; to pacoengah kalen parai thlung to lak moe, Angraeng ih hmuenciim taengah kaom, thing kamtak thing tlim ah a suek.
Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.
27 Kaminawk boih khaeah, Khen oh, hae thlung loe aicae hnukung ah om tih; Angraeng mah aicae khaeah thuih ih loknawk boih hae thlung mah thaih boeh; na Angraeng Sithaw na pahnawt o moeng han ai ah, hae thlung hae nangcae hnukung ah om tih, tiah a naa.
And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”
28 To pacoengah Joshua mah kaminawk boih angmacae qawktoep ih ahmuen ah amlaemsak let.
Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.
29 Hae hmuennawk boih oh pacoengah, Angraeng ih tamna, Nun capa Joshua loe saning cumvai, hato phak naah duek.
Some time later, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
30 Anih loe angmah toep ih prae, Gaash mae aluek bangah kaom, Ephraim mae nui ih, Timnath-Serah ahmuen ah aphum o.
And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
31 Israel kaminawk loe Joshua hing thung, Joshua pong saning kasawk kue ah kahing kacoehtanawk hing o nathung, Angraeng mah Israel kaminawk hanah sak pae ih hmuennawk boih panoek kaminawk hing o nathung, Angraeng ih tok to sak o.
Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.
32 Israel kaminawk mah Izip prae thung hoi sinh o ih Joseph ih ahuhnawk to, Jakob mah Shekem ampa Hamor ih caanawk khaeah, phoisa cumvaito hoiah qan ih Shekem vangpui taeng ih ahmuen ah aphum o; toe to long ahmuen loe Joseph ih caanawk mah qawk ah toep o ih ahmuen ah oh.
And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.
33 Aaron capa Eleazar doeh duek; anih loe a capa Phinehas khaeah paek ih, Ephraim mae nuiah aphum o.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
