< Joshua 22 >
1 Joshua mah Reuben, Gad hoi Manasseh acaeng ahap to kawk moe,
At that time Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
2 Nihcae khaeah, Angraeng ih tamna Mosi mah paek ih loknawk boih na sak o moe, ka thuih ih lok na pazui o boeh;
He said to them, “You have done everything that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you. You have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.
3 canghnii hoi vaihni ni khoek to nangmacae nawkamyanawk to na caeh o taak ai; na Angraeng Sithaw mah paek ih tok to boeng khoek to na sak o.
You have not deserted your brothers these many days, down to this present day, and you have fulfilled the duties required by the commandments of Yahweh your God.
4 Vaihi loe Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, nam nawkamyanawk han misa amdinghaih to paek boeh pongah, Angraeng ih tamna Mosi mah ang paek o ih Jordan vangpui yaeh ah kaom, nangmacae im hoi na toep o ih prae ah amlaem o lai ah.
Now Yahweh your God has given rest to your brothers, just as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land you own, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you on the other side of the Jordan.
5 Toe Angraeng ih tamna Mosi mah paek ih lok hoi kaalok to kahoih ah na pazui o hanah acoe oh; na Angraeng Sithaw to palung oh, anih ih loklam ah caeh oh, ang paek o ih loknawk baktiah sah oh, anih to kacakah patawn oh, na palungthin boih, na hinghaih boih hoiah a tok to sah oh, tiah a naa.
Just be very careful to observe the commandments and the law that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to cling to him and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
6 Joshua mah nihcae tahamhoihaih paek moe, patoeh baktih toengah, nihcae doeh angmacae im ah amlaem o.
So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went back to their tents.
7 Ahap Manasseh acaeng hanah, Mosi mah Bashan prae to paek boeh; Joshua mah kalah ahap acaeng han doeh angmah ih nawkamyanawk salakah Jordan niduem bang ih prae to paek; Joshua mah nihcae to angmacae im ah patoeh naah, nihcae to tahamhoihaih paek.
Now to one-half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given an inheritance in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave an inheritance beside their brothers in the land west of the Jordan. Joshua sent them away to their tents; he blessed them
8 Joshua mah nihcae khaeah, Im ah nam laem o naah, paroeai hmuenmaenawk, paroeai maitawnawk, sui, sum kanglung, sum kamling, sum hoi kapop parai khukbuennawk hoiah amlaem oh; na misanawk khae hoiah na lak o ih hmuennawk to nam nawkamyanawk hoi amzet oh, tiah a naa.
and said to them, “Return to your tents with much money, and with very much livestock, and with silver and gold, and with bronze and iron, and with very many garments. Divide the plunder from your enemies with your brothers.”
9 To pongah Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaeng ah kaom kaminawk loe, Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Israel kaminawk ohhaih Kanaan prae thungah kaom, Shiloh vangpui to caeh o taak moe, angmacae mah qawk ah toep han kaom, Gilead prae ah amlaem o.
So the descendants of Reuben, the descendants of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan. They left to go to the region of Gilead, to their own land, which they themselves possessed, in obedience to the commandment of Yahweh, by the hand of Moses.
10 Kanaan prae thung ih, Jordan vapui taeng to phak o naah, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk mah, Jordan vapui taengah, khet kamtueng kalen parai hmaicam maeto a sak o.
When they came to the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar beside the Jordan, a very large and prominent altar.
11 Khenah, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk mah Kanaan prae boenghaih Jordan vapui taengah, hmaicam maeto a sak o boeh ti, tiah Israel kaminawk mah thaih o.
The people of Israel heard about this and said, “Look! The people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the front of the land of Canaan, at Geliloth, in the region near the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel.”
12 To tamthang to a thaih o naah, Israel kaminawk loe nihcae tuk hanah Shiloh vangpui ah nawnto amkhueng o.
When the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered together at Shiloh to go up to make war against them.
13 To pongah Israel kaminawk mah qaima Eleazar capa Phinehas to, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk ohhaih, Gilead prae ah patoeh o,
Then the people of Israel sent messengers to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead. They also sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest,
14 Anih hoi nawnto zaehoikung kami hato, Israel acaeng maeto thung ih kacoehtanawk boih hoi Israel imthung takoh zaehoikung lu koeknawk to patoeh o.
and with him ten leaders, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, and every one of them was the head of a family among the clan of Israel.
15 Nihcae loe Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk ohhaih, Gilead prae ah caeh o moe, nihcae khaeah,
They came to the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they spoke to them:
16 Angraeng ih kaminawk mah hae tiah lokthuih o; Nangcae loe vaihniah Angraeng ih loklam ah na caeh o ai, loklam nam khraeng o moe, Israel Angraeng Sithaw ih lok to na aek o; kawbangmaw vaihniah Angraeng ih lok na aek o moe, hae tiah hmaicam maeto na sak o halat?
“The whole assembly of Yahweh says this, 'What is this unfaithfulness that you have committed against the God of Israel, by turning this day from following Yahweh by building yourself an altar this day in rebellion against Yahweh?
17 Peor ih zaehaih to aicae han khawt ai vop maw? To zaehaih pongah, Angraeng khae hoi ih kasae nathaih to kaminawk nuiah phak boeh, toe vaihni ni khoek to to zaehaih thung hoiah a ciim o ai vop!
Was our sin at Peor not enough for us? Yet we have not even now cleansed ourselves from it. For that sin there came a plague on the assembly of Yahweh.
18 Vaihniah Angraeng khae hoi nam khraeng o ving boeh maw? Vaihniah Angraeng ih lok to na aek o nahaeloe, khawnbang ah loe anih palungphuihaih Israel kaminawk boih nuiah om tih boeh.
Must you also turn away from following Yahweh at this present day? If you also rebel against Yahweh today, tomorrow he will be angry with the whole assembly of Israel.
19 Na toep o ih prae to panuet thok ah na sak o nahaeloe, Angraeng ih kahni im ohhaih, Angraeng prae ah angzo oh loe, kaicae khaeah om oh; aicae Angraeng Sithaw ih hmaicam na ai ah, kalah hmaicam maeto sakhaih hoiah Angraeng nuiah misa angthawk o hmah loe, kaicae nuiah doeh misa angthawk o hmah.
If the land that you possess is defiled, then you should pass over into the land where Yahweh's tabernacle stands and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us by building an altar for yourselves other than the altar of Yahweh our God.
20 Zerah capa Akaan mah tangoeng ih hmuen lak moeng ih zaehaih pongah, Israel kaminawk boih nuiah palungphuihaih om ai maw? Anih zaehaih pongah angmah khue to dueh ai, tiah a naa o.
Did not Achan son of Zerah break faith in the matter of those things that had been reserved for God? Did not wrath fall on all the people of Israel? That man did not perish alone for his iniquity.'”
21 To naah Reuben, Gad hoi ahap Manasseh acaengnawk mah, Kami sangto ukkung Israel caanawk khaeah,
Then the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh replied in answer to the heads of the clans of Israel:
22 sithawnawk ih Angraeng Sithaw! sithawnawk ih Angraeng Sithaw mah panoek; Israel kaminawk mah doeh panoek o tih; hae hmaicam loe Angraeng misa angthawk thui haih maw, to ai boeh loe a lok tahngai ai ah sak ih hmaicam ah om nahaeloe, vaihniah kaicae hae pathlung o hmah,
“The Mighty One, God, Yahweh! The Mighty One, God, Yahweh!—He knows, and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in breach of faith against Yahweh, do not spare us on this day
23 Angraeng angqoi taak hanah hmaicam hae ka sak o maw, to tih ai boeh loe hmai angbawnhaih ka sak o maw, to tih ai boeh loe takaw tathlanghaih ka sak o maw, to tih ai boeh loe angdaeh angbawnhaih maw ka sak o nahaeloe, Angraeng angmah roe lokcaek nasoe;
for having built an altar to turn ourselves away from following Yahweh. If we built that altar in order to offer on it burnt offerings, grain offerings, or peace offerings, then let Yahweh make us pay for it.
24 hmabang ah na caanawk mah ka caanawk khaeah, Nangcae loe Israel Angraeng Sithaw hoi asaenghaih timaw na tawnh o?
No! We did it for fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, 'What have you to do with Yahweh, the God of Israel?
25 Angraeng mah kaicae hoi nangcae, Reuben caanawk hoi Gad caanawk salakah ramri to a sak boeh; nangcae loe Angraeng hoi asaenghaih tidoeh om ai boeh, tiah nangcae ih caanawk mah kaicae ih caanawk khaeah thui o moeng ueloe, kaicae ih caanawk mah Sithaw zii ai ah khosah o moeng tih, tiah zithaih ka tawnh o pongah ni, hae hmuen hae ka sak o.
For Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you. You people of Reuben and people of Gad, you have nothing to do with Yahweh.' So your children might make our children cease to worship Yahweh.
26 To pongah vaihi hmaicam maeto sah o si; toe hmai angbawnhaih hoi hmuen paekhaih to sak hanah patoh o hma si, tiah ka thuih o.
So we said, 'Let us now build an altar, not for burnt offerings nor for any sacrifices,
27 Kaicae loe hmai angbawnhaih, hmuen paekhaih, angdaeh hmuen paekhaih hoiah Angraeng hmaa ah a tok to ka sak o, tiah hmabang angzo nangcae ih caanawk hoi kaicae ih caanawk salakah hnukung ah ohsak han ih, nangcae ih caanawk mah kaicae ih caanawk khaeah, Nangcae loe Angraeng ah toep ih qawk tidoeh na tawn o ai, tiah thuihaih oh han ai ih ni to tiah ka sak o.
but to be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we will perform the service of Yahweh before him, with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, so that your children will never say to our children in time to come, “You have no share in Yahweh.”'
28 To pongah hmabang ah nihcae mah, Aicae khae hoi aimacae ih caanawk khaeah hae tiah thui o nahaeloe, kaicae mah, Kaicae ampanawk loe hmai angbawnhaih hoi hmuen paek han ih na ai, nangcae hoi kaicae salakah hnukung ah oh hanah sak ih Angraeng hmaicam ih krang hae khen oh, tiah thui pae si, tiah ka thuih o.
So we said, 'If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we would say, “Look! This is a copy of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.”
29 Angraeng hmaa ah misa angthawk moe, vaihniah a caeh o ih loklam to amkhraeng taak moe, angmah ih kahni im hmaa ah kangdoe, aicae Angraeng Sithaw ih hmaicam ai ah loe, hmai angbawnhaih, canghum paekhaih hoi hmuen tathlanghaih sak hanah, kalah hmaicam roe ka sah o mak ai, tiah a naa o.
May it be far from us that we should rebel against Yahweh, and today turn away from following him by building an altar for burnt offering, for grain offering, or for sacrifice, other than the altar of Yahweh our God that is before his tabernacle.'”
30 Qaima Phinehas, kaminawk zaehoikung hoi kami sangto zaehoikung Israel caanawk mah, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi ahap Manasseh acaeng mah thuih ih lok to thaih o naah, anghoe o.
When Phinehas the priest and the leaders of the people, that is, the heads of the clans of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh said, that it was good in their eyes.
31 To naah qaima Eleazar capa Phinehas mah, Reuben acaeng, Gad acaeng hoi Manasseh acaengnawk khaeah, Nangcae loe Angraeng hmaa ah na zae o ai pongah, vaihniah Angraeng loe aicae salakah oh, tiah a panoek o; Angraeng ih ban thung hoiah Israel kaminawk to nangcae mah na pahlong o boeh, tiah a naa.
Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest said to the people of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, “Today we know that Yahweh is among us, because you have not committed this breach of faith against him. Now you have rescued the people of Israel out of the hand of Yahweh.”
32 To pacoengah qaima Eleazar capa Phinehas hoi zaehoikungnawk loe, Gilead prae ah kaom, Reuben acaeng hoi Gad acaeng khae hoiah amlaem o moe, Kanaan prae ah kaom, Israel kaminawk khaeah, to loknawk to thuih pae o let.
Then Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, and the leaders returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites, out of the land of Gilead, back to the land of Canaan, to the people of Israel, and brought back word to them.
33 To lok to Israel kaminawk mah thaih o naah, anghoe o moe, Sithaw to saphaw o; to pacoeng hoi loe nihcae tuk hanah caeh moe, Reuben kaminawk hoi Gad kaminawk ohhaih prae to paro hanah thui o ai boeh.
Their report was good in the eyes of the people of Israel. The people of Israel blessed God and spoke no more about making war against the Reubenites and the Gadites, in order to destroy the land where they had settled.
34 Reuben kaminawk hoi Gad kaminawk mah, Angraeng loe Sithaw ni, tito hae ih hmaicam mah kaicae salakah hnukung ah om nasoe, tiah a thuih o pongah hmaicam to Ed, tiah ahmin sak o.
The Reubenites and the Gadites named the altar “Witness,” for they said, “It is a witness between us that Yahweh is God.”
