While Eleazar the Supreme Priest and Joshua and the leaders of all the Israeli tribes were at Shiloh, the leaders of the clans of the tribe of Levi went to them and said, “Yahweh commanded Moses that you should give us towns where we can have pasture/fields/grassland for our animals, [but you have not done these things yet].”

3 To pongah Angraeng mah paek ih lok baktih toengah, Israel kaminawk mah qawk ah a toep o ih ahmuen thung hoiah vangpuinawk hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk to paek o.
So the Israeli leaders obeyed this command from Yahweh. They agreed to give towns and pasturelands to the tribe of Levi.
4 Kohath acaeng boih mah qawktoep hanah taham khethaih phoisa to vah pae; Levi acaeng ah kaom, qaima Aaron ih caanawk hanah Judah, Simeon hoi Benjamin acaengnawk mah toep o ih ahmuen thung hoiah, vangpui hatlai thumto pahoe pae o.
[First] they allotted some cities to the Kohath clans, who belonged to the tribe of Levi. To those who were descendants of the first Supreme Priest Aaron, they allotted 13 towns in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
5 To pacoengah kalah Kohath ih caanawk hanah Ephraim, Dan hoi Manasseh acaeng ahap ah kaom kaminawk mah toep o ih ahmuen thung hoiah, vangpui hato pahoe pae o.
To the other members of the Kohath clan they allotted ten cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lives on the west side of the Jordan River].
6 Gershon caanawk hanah Issakar, Asher, Naphtali hoi Bashan ah kaom Manasseh acaeng ahap ah kaom kaminawk mah toep o ih ahmuen thung hoiah, vangpui hatlai thumto pahoe pae o.
The people from the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the part of the tribe of Manasseh that lives on the east side of the Jordan [River].
7 Merari caanawk hanah Reuben, Gad hoi Zebulun acaengnawk mah toep o ih ahmuen thung hoiah, vangpui hatlai hnetto pahoe pae o.
The people from the Merari clans were allotted twelve cities in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
8 To pongah Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Israel kaminawk mah Levinawk hanah hae vangpuinawk hoi a taengah kaom ahmuenawk to paek o.
So the Israeli leaders gave cities and pastureland to the tribe of Levi, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses that they should do.
9 Judah hoi Simeon acaeng mah toep ih ahmuen thung hoiah, paek ih vangpui ahminnawk loe,
These are the names of the cities and surrounding pasturelands that were allotted to them, that were in the areas where the tribes of Judah and Simeon lived.
10 Levi acaeng, Kohath imthung takoh ah kaom, Aaron caanawk hanah hmaloe koek taham khethaih phoisa to vah moe, pahoe pae o.
First, they allotted cities to the members of the Kohath clans.
11 Judah mae nuiah kaom Anak ampa Arba ohhaih, Hebron vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk to a paek o.
They allotted to them Kiriath-Arba (which is [now named] Hebron), in the hilly area of Judah. Arba received its name because Arba was the ancestor of [the giants of] the Anak people-group.
12 Toe vangpui taengah kaom lawknawk hoi vangtanawk loe, Jephunneh capa Kaleb hanah qawk ah a paek o.
But the fields and villages surrounding Arba had already been allotted to Caleb.
13 To pongah qaima Aaron caanawk hanah, poek ai pui hoi kami hum moeng kaminawk abuephaih vangpui ah kaom Hebron hoi Libnah taengah kaom ahmuennawk,
They allotted to them Hebron, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected. They also allotted to the Kohath clan the cities of Libnah,
14 Jattir vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Eshtemao vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
Jattir, Eshtemoa,
15 Holon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Debir vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
Holon, Debir,
16 Ain vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Juttah vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Beth-Shemesh vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, to acaeng hnetto thung hoiah vangpui takawtto pahoe pae o.
Ain, Juttah, and Beth-Shemesh. Altogether they were allotted those nine cities which were located in the areas that had been allotted to the tribes of Judah and Simeon.
17 Benjamin acaeng thung hoiah Gibeon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Geba vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
The Kohath clan was also allotted these four cities: Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Almon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuenawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito pahoe pae o.
Anathoth, and Almon. Those cities were in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Benjamin.
19 Qaima Aaron caanawk hanah pahoe pae o ih vangpuinawk boih loe, vangpui hatlai thumto hoi nawnto a taeng ih ahmuennawk to athum.
Altogether those 13 towns and surrounding pastureland were allotted to the priests who were descended from Aaron.
20 Levi acaeng thung ih kanghmat Kohath imthung takohnawk loe taham khethaih phoisa to vah o moe, Ephraim acaeng mah toep ih qawk thung hoiah vangpuinawk to pahoe pae o.
The other members the Kohath clan were allotted four cities and the surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Ephraim.
21 Ephraim mae nuiah, kami hum moeng kaminawk anghawkhaih vangpui ah kaom, Shekem hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Gezer vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
Those cities were Shechem (which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Gezer,
22 Kibzaim vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Beth-Horon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito pahoe pae o.
Kibzaim, and Beth-Horon.
23 Dan acaeng thung hoiah Eltekeh vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Gibbethon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
They were also allotted four cities and surrounding pastureland in the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Dan. Those cities were Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
24 Aijalon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Gath-Rimmon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito pahoe pae o.
Aijalon, and Gath-Rimmon.
25 Ahap Manasseh acaeng ah kaom kaminawk thung hoiah, Taanak vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Gath-Rimmon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; vangpui hnetto pahoe pae o.
They were also allotted two towns and surrounding pastureland that had been allotted to [the] part of the tribe of Manasseh [that lived on the west side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Taanach and Gath-Rimmon.
26 Kanghmat Kohath imthung takohnawk mah toep han ih vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui hato oh.
Those were the ten cities and surrounding pastureland that were allotted to the other members of the Kohath clan.
27 Levi imthung takoh, Gersom ih caanawk doeh, Manasseh acaeng ahap ah kaom kaminawk mah toep ih ahmuen thung hoiah, kami hum moeng naah anghawkhaih Bashan prae thungah kaom, Golan vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Be-Eshtarah vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk hoi nawnto ah vangpui hnetto;
They also allotted towns and the surrounding pastureland to the Gershon clans. Those clans were also descended from Levi. They were allotted two cities from the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Manasseh [that is on the east side of the Jordan River]. Those cities were Golan in the Bashan region, which was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, and Be-Eshtarah.
28 Issakar prae thung ih Kishon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Daberath vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Issachar they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Kishion, Daberath,
29 Jarmuth vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, En-Gannim vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk hoi nawnto ah vangpui palito;
Jarmuth, and En-Gannim.
30 Asher prae thung hoiah, Mishal vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Abdon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Asher they were allotted four cities. Those cities were Mishal, Abdon,
31 Helkath vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Rehob vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito;
Helkath, and Rehob.
32 Naphtali acaeng thung hoiah kami hum moeng naah anghawkhaih ahmuen, Glili prae ah kaom Kedesh vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Hammoth-Dor vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Kartan vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui thumto,
From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Naphtali they were allotted three cities. Those cities were Kedesh in the Galilee region (it was one of the cities to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected), Hammoth-Dor, and Kartan.
33 Gershom imthung takoh maeto boih mah, toep ih vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk boih loe hatlai thumto oh.
So altogether the Gershon clans were allotted 13 cities and the surrounding pasturelands.
34 Levi acaeng kanghmat, Merari imthung takoh hanah, Zebulun prae thung hoiah, Jokneam vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Karath vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
The other descendants of Levi, the ones who belonged to the Merari clans, were also allotted towns and their surrounding pasturelands. From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Zebulun they were allotted four cities. They were Jokneam, Kartah,
35 Dimnah vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Nahalal vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui hatlai palito oh.
Dimnah, and Nahalal.
36 Reuben prae thung hoiah Bezer vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Jahaz vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Reuben they were allotted four cities. They were Bezer, Jahaz,
37 Kedemoth vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Mephaath vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito oh.
Kedemoth, and Mephaath.
38 Gad prae thung hoiah kami hum moeng naah anghawkhaih ahmuen, Gilead prae ah kaom, Ramoth vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Mahanaim vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk,
From the area that had been allotted to the tribe of Gad they were allotted four cities. They were Ramoth, which was one of the cities in the Gilead region to which people could run/escape to be safe/protected, Mahanaim,
39 Hesbon vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk, Jazer vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk; sangqum boih ah vangpui palito oh.
Heshbon, and Jazer.
40 Kanghmat Levi acaeng, Merari imthung takoh boih mah taham khethaih phoisa to vah moe, qawk ah toep ih vangpui hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk sangqum boih ah hatlai palito oh.
Altogether twelve cities were allotted to the Merari clans.
41 Israel kaminawk ih prae thung hoiah Levi acaengnawk mah toep o ih vangpuinawk hoi a taeng ih ahmuennawk loe, sangqum boih ah quipali, tazetto oh.
So altogether 48 cities were allotted to the tribe of Levi,
42 Hae vangpuinawk taengah kaom ahmuen loe kakong ahmuen ah oh. Hae vangpuinawk ih a taeng boih loe to tiah oh o.
and each city had surrounding pastureland.
43 Sithaw mah ampanawk khaeah lokkam ih baktih toengah, praenawk boih to Israel kaminawk hanah paek; nihcae mah prae to toep o moe, khosak o haih.
In that way Yahweh allotted to the Israeli people all the land that he had promised to give to their/our ancestors. The Israeli people took control of [most of] those areas and started to live there.
44 Amsaenawk khaeah lokkam ih baktih toengah, a taeng boih ah misa amdinghaih a paek pongah, kawbaktih misa doeh nihcae hmaa ah angdoe o thai ai; Angraeng mah nihcae ih misanawk boih to nihcae ban ah paek.
Just like he had promised our ancestors, Yahweh allowed them/us to have peace with the enemies that surrounded them/us. Yahweh enabled the Israelis/us to defeat their/our enemies.
45 Angraeng mah Israel imthung takoh khaeah thuih ih kahoih lok maeto doeh anghmaa ai; a thuih ih loknawk to akoep boih.
Yahweh did all the things that he had promised to the Israeli people/us. Everything that he said would happen did happen.
