< Joshua 10 >
1 Joshua mah Ai vangpui to kawbangmaw lak moe paro, tito Jerusalem siangpahrang Adoni-Zedek mah thaih; Jeriko vangpui hoi anih ih siangpahrang nuiah sak ih baktih toengah, Ai vangpui hoi anih ih siangpahrang nuiah doeh a sak; Gibeon kaminawk loe Israel kaminawk hoi angdaehhaih sak o moe, nihcae khaeah oh o, tiah doeh a thaih.
Now Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had captured Ai and devoted it to destruction —doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king—and that the people of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living near them.
2 To pongah nihcae loe paroeai zit o; Gibeon loe kalen parai vangpui ah oh moe, siangpahrang ohhaih vangpui maeto ah oh; to vangpui loe Ai vangpui pongah len kue, vangpui thung kaom kaminawk loe misatuh thaih kami ah oh o.
So Adoni-zedek and his people were greatly alarmed, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities; it was larger than Ai, and all its men were mighty.
3 To pongah Jerusalem siangpahrang Adoni-Zedek mah Hebron siangpahrang Hoham, Jarmuth siangpahrang Piram, Lakhish siangpahrang Japhia hoi Eglon siangpahrang Debir khaeah kami to patoeh.
Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,
4 Gibeon vangpui loe Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk hoiah angdaehhaih sak o pongah, anih tuk hanah kai khaeah angzo o tahang ah loe, na bomh oh, tiah a naa.
“Come up and help me. We will attack Gibeon, because they have made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”
5 To pongah Amor acaeng siangpahrang pangato ah kaom, Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lakhish hoi Eglon ih siangpahrangnawk nawnto amkhueng o; angmacae hoi angmacae ih misatuh kaminawk boih nawnto angthawk o moe, Gibeon vangpui taengah atai o pacoengah, vangpui to a tuk o.
So the five kings of the Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon—joined forces and advanced with all their armies. They camped before Gibeon and made war against it.
6 To naah Gibeon kaminawk mah Gilgal ah kaom Joshua khaeah kami patoeh moe, Na tamnanawk hae khen sut hmah; kaicae khaeah karangah angzo oh loe, na pahlong o raeh; mae nuiah kaom Amor siangpahrangnawk boih angbomh o moe, kaicae tuk hanah angzoh o boeh, tiah a naa o.
Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, because all the kings of the Amorites from the hill country have joined forces against us.”
7 To pongah Joshua loe, angmah ih misatuh kaminawk boih, misatuh kop kaminawk boih hoi nawnto Gilgal hoiah caeh o tahang.
So Joshua and his whole army, including all the mighty men of valor, came from Gilgal.
8 Angraeng mah Joshua khaeah, Nihcae to zii hmah; nihcae to na ban ah kang paek boeh; kami maeto doeh na hmaa ah angdoe o thai mak ai, tiah a naa.
The LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for I have delivered them into your hand. Not one of them shall stand against you.”
9 Joshua loe Gilgal vangpui hoiah aqum puek caeh, nihcae to dawnrai kaom ah tuk moe, pazawk.
After marching all night from Gilgal, Joshua caught them by surprise.
10 Angraeng mah nihcae to Israel kaminawk hmaa ah palungmitsak, paroeai kaminawk to Gibeon vangpui taengah hum o; Israel caanawk mah Beth Horon caehhaih loklam karoek to nihcae to patom o moe, Azekah hoi Makkedah loklam karoek to hum o.
And the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great slaughter at Gibeon, pursued them along the ascent to Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
11 Nihcae loe Israel kaminawk hmaa hoiah cawnh o, Beth Horon caehhaih loklam ah caeh o tathuk naah, Angraeng mah van hoiah qaetui kamkhawk kraksak moe, a duek o; Israel kaminawk mah sumsen hoi hum ih kami pongah qaetui kamkhawk mah vah maat ih kaminawk to pop o kue.
As they fled before Israel along the descent from Beth-horon to Azekah, the LORD cast down on them large hailstones from the sky, and more of them were killed by the hailstones than by the swords of the Israelites.
12 Angraeng mah Israel kaminawk ban ah Amor kaminawk paek na niah; Joshua mah Israel kaminawk hmaa ah, Aw ni, Gibeon vangpui nuiah angdoe raeh; Aw khrah, Aijalon azawn nuiah anghak raeh, tiah thuih.
On the day that the LORD gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 To pongah kaminawk mah angmacae ih misanawk nuiah lu la boih ai karoek to, ni to anghak moe, khrah doeh anghak sut. Ni loe van um ah anghak sut, nito thung amzaita hoiah laemh tathuk, tiah Jasher cabu thungah tarik ih om ai maw?
So the sun stood still and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance upon its enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? “So the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.”
14 Angraeng mah kami maeto ih lok to tahngaih pae; Angraeng mah Israel kaminawk han misatuk pae pongah, hae baktih ani loe canghni ah om vai ai, om doeh om let mak ai boeh.
There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man, because the LORD fought for Israel.
15 To pacoengah Joshua loe Israel kaminawk hoi nawnto atai o haih Gilgal ah amlaem o let.
Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.
16 Toe siangpahrang pangatonawk loe cawnh o moe, Makkedah thlungkhaw thungah anghawk o.
Now the five kings had fled and hidden in the cave at Makkedah.
17 Makkedah thlungkhaw thungah siangpahrang pangatonawk anghawk o, tiah Joshua khaeah thuih pae.
And Joshua was informed: “The five kings have been found; they are hiding in the cave at Makkedah.”
18 To naah Joshua mah, Thlungkhaw to kalen parai thlung hoiah kraeng thuih khoep hanah, kaminawk to patoeh mae toepsak:
So Joshua said, “Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and post men there to guard them.
19 toe anghngai o duem hmah! Na misanawk to patom oh; na kae o ih kaminawk to hum oh; vangpui thung akun o sak hmah; na Angraeng Sithaw mah nihcae to nangcae ban ah paek boeh, tiah a naa.
But you, do not stop there. Pursue your enemies and attack them from behind. Do not let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has delivered them into your hand.”
20 Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk mah paroeai kaminawk to hum o, maeto doeh tahmat o ai; toe anghmat kami loe sipae kacakah thungh ih vangpui thungah akun o.
So Joshua and the Israelites continued to inflict a terrible slaughter until they had finished them off, and the remaining survivors retreated to the fortified cities.
21 Kaminawk boih loe Joshua ohhaih Makkedah ah lunghoih ta hoiah amlaem o; mi mah doeh Israel kaminawk kasae thui o ai.
The whole army returned safely to Joshua in the camp at Makkedah, and no one dared to utter a word against the Israelites.
22 Joshua mah thlungkhaw to paong oh loe, siangpahrang pangatonawk to kai khaeah na hoi oh, tiah a naa.
Then Joshua said, “Open the mouth of the cave and bring those five kings out to me.”
23 To pongah nihcae mah Jerusalem siangpahrang, Hebron siangpahrang, Jarmuth siangpahrang, Lakhish siangpahrang hoi Eglon siangpahrang pangatonawk to anih khaeah caeh o haih.
So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon.
24 To siangpahrang pangatonawk Joshua khaeah caeh o haih pacoengah, Joshua mah Israel kaminawk boih to kawk moe, angmah hoi nawnto kaom misatuh angraengnawk khaeah, Hae ah angzo oh, khok hoiah hae siangpahrangnawk ih tahnong to cawh oh, tiah a naa. Israel kaminawk loe angzoh o moe, nihcae ih tahnong to khok hoiah cawh o.
When they had brought the kings to Joshua, he summoned all the men of Israel and said to the army commanders who had accompanied him, “Come here and put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So the commanders came forward and put their feet on their necks.
25 Joshua mah nihcae khaeah, Zii o hmah; palungboeng o hmah; na thacak o sak loe, misahoih oh; Angraeng mah na tuk o ih misanawk nuiah hae tiah sah tih, tiah a naa.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua said. “Be strong and courageous, for the LORD will do this to all the enemies you fight.”
26 To pacoengah Joshua mah siangpahrangnawk to hum; nihcae to thing pangato pongah a bangh; nihcae to niduem khoek to thing pongah a bangh.
After this, Joshua struck down and killed the kings, and he hung their bodies on five trees and left them there until evening.
27 Niduem naah loe Joshua mah, Thing nui ah kangbang nihcae ih qok to laksak moe, angmacae anghawkhaih thlungkhaw thungah vahsak let; thlungkhaw to kalen parai thlung hoiah kraeng o khoep, to thlungnawk loe vaihni ni khoek to oh vop.
At sunset Joshua ordered that they be taken down from the trees and thrown into the cave in which they had hidden. Then large stones were placed against the mouth of the cave, and the stones are there to this day.
28 To na niah Joshua mah Makkedah vangpui to tuk moe, a lak pacoengah, siangpahrang to sumsen hoiah hum; siangpahrang hoi athung ah kaom kaminawk boih maeto doeh pathlung ai, pathuk boih; Jeriko siangpahrang nuiah sak ih hmuen baktih toengah Makkedah siangpahrang nuiah doeh a sak.
On that day Joshua captured Makkedah and put it to the sword, along with its king. He devoted to destruction everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. So he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.
29 To pacoengah Joshua hoi anih taengah kaom kaminawk boih, Makkedah vangpui hoiah Libnah ah caeh o moe, Libnah vangpui to tuk o let.
Then Joshua and all Israel with him moved on from Makkedah to Libnah and fought against Libnah.
30 Angraeng mah to vangpui hoi a siangpahrang to Israel kaminawk ban ah paek; to pongah Joshua mah vangpui hoi athung ah kaom kaminawk boih, maeto doeh anghmat ai ah, sumsen hoiah hum king; Jeriko siangpahrang nuiah sak ih baktih toengah, to siangpahrang nuiah doeh a sak.
And the LORD also delivered that city and its king into the hand of Israel, and Joshua put all the people to the sword, leaving no survivors. And he did to the king of Libnah as he had done to the king of Jericho.
31 To pacoengah Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk boih Libnah vangpui hoiah tacawt o moe, Lakhish vangpui ah caeh o; to ah atai o pacoengah, to vangpui to a tuk o.
And Joshua and all Israel with him moved on from Libnah to Lachish. They laid siege to it and fought against it.
32 Angraeng mah Lakhish to Israel kaminawk ban ah paek pongah, ni hnetto naah vangpui to a lak o; Libnah vangpui ah sak ih baktih toengah, to vangpui hoi athung ah kaom kaminawk to sumsen hoiah hum o boih.
And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, and Joshua captured it on the second day. He put all the people to the sword, just as he had done to Libnah.
33 To naah Gezer siangpahrang Horam loe Lakhish vangpui abom hanah angzoh; toe Joshua mah anih hoi angmah ih misatuh kaminawk to maeto doeh anghmat ai ah tamit boih.
At that time Horam king of Gezer went to help Lachish, but Joshua struck him down along with his people, leaving no survivors.
34 Joshua hoi anih taengah kaom Israel kaminawk boih loe, Lakhish hoiah Eglon ah caeh o; to ah ohhaih ahmuen taqawt o moe, to vangpui to a tuk o.
So Joshua moved on from Lachish to Eglon, and all Israel with him. They laid siege to it and fought against it.
35 To na niah vangpui to lak o moe, athung ah kaom kaminawk to, Lakhish vangpui ah sak ih baktih toengah, sumsen hoiah hum o boih.
That day they captured Eglon and put it to the sword, and Joshua devoted to destruction everyone in the city, just as he had done to Lachish.
36 Joshua hoi Israel kaminawk boih, Eglon hoi Hebron ah caeh o tahang moe, to vangpui to a tuk o.
Then Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron and fought against it.
37 Vangpui to a lak o pacoengah, a siangpahrang, vangpuinawk hoi athung ah kaom kaminawk to, sumsen hoi hum o boih; Eglon vangpui ah sak o ih baktih toengah, vangpui hoi athung ah kaom kaminawk to kami maeto doeh pathlung ai ah hum o boih.
They captured it and put to the sword its king, all its villages, and all the people. Joshua left no survivors, just as he had done at Eglon; he devoted to destruction Hebron and everyone in it.
38 Joshua hoi a taengah kaom Israel kaminawk boih, to ahmuen hoiah angqoi o moe, Debir vangpui to a tuk o.
Finally Joshua and all Israel with him turned toward Debir and fought against it.
39 Vangpui to a lak o pacoengah, a siangpahrang hoi vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk to sumsen hoiah hum o boih; athung ah kaom kaminawk to maeto doeh anghmat ai ah hum o; Libnah vangpui hoi a siangpahrang, Hebron vangpui hoi a siangpahrang nuiah sak ih baktih toengah, Debir vangpui hoi a siangpahrang nuiah doeh a sak.
And they captured Debir, its king, and all its villages. They put them to the sword and devoted to destruction everyone in the city, leaving no survivors. Joshua did to Debir and its king as he had done to Hebron and as he had done to Libnah and its king.
40 To tiah Joshua mah mae nui ah kaom praenawk to pazawk boih, aloih bangah kaom prae, azawn ah kaom prae, tuipuek ohhaih ahmuennawk hoi siangpahrangnawk to pazawk boih; Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah paek ih lok baktih toengah, hinghaih tawn kaminawk boih, maeto doeh pathlung ai ah a hum boih.
So Joshua conquered the whole region—the hill country, the Negev, the foothills, and the slopes, together with all their kings—leaving no survivors. He devoted to destruction everything that breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
41 Joshua mah Kadesh Barnea vangpui hoi Gaza vangpui karoek to, Goshen prae to lak boih pacoengah, Gibeon vangpui karoek to misa to pazawk.
Joshua conquered the area from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and the whole region of Goshen as far as Gibeon.
42 Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah Israel kaminawk han misatuk pae pongah, Joshua mah hae ih siangpahrangnawk hae vaito tuk naah pazawk boih.
And because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel, Joshua captured all these kings and their land in one campaign.
43 To pacoengah Joshua loe a taengah kaom Israel kaminawk boih hoi nawnto Gilgal vangpui ah amlaem o let.
Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.
