< Jonah 3 >

1 To pacoengah vai hnetto haih Angraeng ih lok Jonah khaeah phak,
And the word of the Lord came to Jonas the second time, saying:
2 angthawk ah, kalen pui, Nineveh vangpui ah caeh loe, kang paek ih lok to taphong ah, tiah a naa.
Arise, and go to Ninive the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 To pongah Jonah loe angthawk moe, Angraeng ih lok baktih toengah, Nineveh vangpui ah a caeh. Nineveh loe kalen parai vangpui ah oh moe, ni thumto thung caeh ih vangpui ah oh.
And Jonas arose, and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord: now Ninive was a great city of three days’ journey.
4 Nito caeh pacoengah Jonah loe vangpui thungah akunh, to ah ni qui palito thung oh pacoengah, Nineveh vangpui to amtim tih boeh, tiah acoehaih lok to a thuih pae.
And Jonas began to enter into the city one day’s journey: and he cried, and said: Yet forty days, and Ninive shall be destroyed.
5 To naah Nineveh vangpui thung ih kaminawk mah Sithaw to tang o, buhzah han taphong o, kathoeng koek hoi kalen koek khoek to kaminawk boih buri kahni to angkhuk o.
And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least.
6 To lok tamthang to Nineveh siangpahrang khaeah phak, to naah anih loe angmah ih angraeng tangkhang nui hoiah angthawk tahang moe, siangpahrang khukbuen to angkhring, buri kahni angkhuk pacoengah, maiphu thungah anghnut.
And the word came to the king of Ninive; and he rose up out of his throne, and cast away his robe from him, and was clothed with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 Siangpahrang hoi oep kaom angmah ih kaminawk khokhanhaih rang hoiah, Nineveh vangpui ah lok to taphongsak boih; taphong ih lok loe, Kami doeh, pacah ih tuu hoi moinawk doeh rawkcak pacah o hmah; tidoeh pataengh han om ai: buh to caa o hmah nasoe, tui doeh nae o hmah nasoe:
And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: Let neither men nor beasts, oxen nor sheep, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water.
8 kami doeh, pacah ih moi doeh buri kahni to angkhuk o boih nasoe loe, Sithaw to kawk nasoe; ue, kami boih a sak o ih kahoih ai hmuen hoiah amlaem o nasoe, ban hoi a sak o ih kahoih ai hmuen thung hoiah amlaem o nasoe.
And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their strength, and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands.
9 To tiah nahaeloe aicae amro han ai ah, Sithaw mah tahmen ueloe, zit kathok palungphuihaih to dipsak khoe doeh om tih, tito mi mah maw thui thai tih? tiah lok to angzoh.
Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?
10 Kaminawk loe a sak o ih kahoih ai hmuennawk hoi kasae loklam hoiah amlaem o let boeh, tiah Sithaw mah hnuk naah, Sithaw loe dawnpakhuem moe, nihcae nuiah ka phaksak han, tiah thuih ih raihaih to phasak ai.
And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.
