1 Tangsuek naah Lok to oh, to Lok loe Sithaw hoi nawnto oh, Lok loe Sithaw ni.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Lok loe tangsuek na hoiah boeh ni Sithaw hoi nawnto oh.
The same was in the beginning with God.
3 Anih mah hmuennawk boih to sak; anih ai ah sak ih hmuen tidoeh om ai.
All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made.
4 Anih thungah hinghaih oh; to hinghaih loe kami han aanghaih ah oh.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 Aanghaih loe kaving thungah aang; toe kaving mah anih to panoek ai.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.
6 Sithaw khae hoi patoeh ih kami maeto oh; anih ih ahmin loe Johan.
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 Anih rang hoiah kaminawk boih mah tanghaih tawnh o thai hanah, anih loe hnukung maeto ah oh moe, aanghaih hnukung ah oh hanah angzoh.
The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.
8 Anih loe to Aanghaih to na ai ni, toe to Aanghaih hnukung ah oh han ih ni patoeh.
He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.
9 To Aanghaih loe long nuiah angzo kaminawk boih aanghaih paekkung, Aanghaih tangtang ah oh.
The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.
10 Anih loe long ah oh, long loe Anih mah ni sak, toe long mah Anih to panoek ai.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.
11 Anih loe Angmah kaminawk khaeah angzoh, toe Angmah ih kaminawk mah Anih to talawk o ai.
He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him.
12 Toe Anih talawk kaminawk hoi Anih ih ahmin tang kaminawk khaeah, Sithaw caa ah angcoeng thaihaih to a paek:
But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:
13 to caanawk loe athii, taksa hoi kami koehhaih baktiah tapen ai, Sithaw koehhaih baktiah tapen kami ah ni oh o.
who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Lok loe takpum ah angcoeng, aicae salakah oh moe, tahmenhaih hoi loktang hoiah koi (Ampa mah maeto khue tawnh ih lensawkhaih, ) a lensawkhaih to a hnuk o boeh.
The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Johan mah, Ka hnukah angzo kami loe kai tapen ai naah oh boeh, kai pongah len kue, tiah ka thuih ih lok loe Anih thuih koehhaih ih ni, tiah anih kawng to thuih.
John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”
16 Anih akoephaih hoi tahmenhaih loe aicae boih mah hnuk o.
From his fullness we all received grace upon grace.
17 Kaalok loe Mosi khaeah paek, toe tahmenhaih hoi loktang loe Jesu Kri rang hoiah ni angzoh.
For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
18 Mi mah doeh Sithaw to hnu vai ai, toe Ampa ih saoek ah kaom, maeto khue tawnh ih, Capa mah Anih to amtuengsak boeh.
No one has seen God at any time. The only born Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him.
19 Jerusalem ih Judahnawk mah, Nang loe mi aa? tiah dueng hanah qaimanawk hoi Levinawk to anih khaeah patoeh naah, Johan mah hae tiah thuih.
This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 Anih loe angphat ai ah kai loe Kri na ai ni, tiah thuih.
He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”
21 Nihcae mah anih khaeah, to tih nahaeloe nang loe mi aa? Elijah maw? tiah dueng o. Anih mah, Kai loe Elijah na ai, tiah a naa. Nang loe Tahmaa maw? tiah dueng o. Anih mah, Kai loe tahmaa na ai ni, tiah a naa.
They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”
22 Nihcae mah anih khaeah, Kaicae patoeh kaminawk khaeah ka thuih pae o hanah nang loe mi aa, nangmah hoi nangmah to kawbangmaw na thuih? tiah a naa o.
They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 Anih mah, Tahmaa Isaiah mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Kai loe Angraeng ih loklam to patoengh oh, tiah praezaek ah kahang kami ni, tiah a naa.
He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24 Nihcae loe Farasinawk mah ptoeh ih kami ah oh o.
The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25 Nihcae mah anih khaeah, Kri na ai, Elijah doeh na ai, Tahmaa doeh na ai to mah, tih han ih tuinuemhaih na paek loe? tiah dueng o.
They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”
26 Johan mah nihcae khaeah, Kai loe tui hoiah ni tuinuemhaih to ka paek: toe nangcae salakah kaom na panoek o ai ih kami maeto angdoet;
John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.
27 Anih loe ka hnukah angzoh, toe kai pongah len kue, kai loe anih ih khokpanai qui khram pae han mataeng doeh kam cuk ai, tiah a naa.
He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”
28 Hae hmuennawk loe Johan mah tuinuem paekhaih, Bethany avang Jordan vapui yaeh ah sak.
These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Khawnbangah loe angmah khaeah kangzo Jesu to Johan mah hnuk, To naah khenah, long zaehaih phawkung, Sithaw Tuucaa! tiah thuih.
The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30 Anih loe kai tapen ai naah oh boeh, ka hnukah angzo kami loe kai pongah len kue, tiah ka thuih ih kami loe, Anih hae ni.
This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’
31 Anih to ka panoek ai: Anih loe Israel kaminawk khaeah amtueng han koi kami ah oh pongah, tui hoiah tuinuemhaih to ka paek, tiah a naa.
I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water, that he would be revealed to Israel.”
32 Johan mah, Pahuu baktiah van hoiah anghum tathuk, Anih nuiah kacuk, Muithla to ka hnuk, tiah thuih.
John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.
33 Anih to ka panoek ai: toe tui hoi tuinuem hanah kai patoehkung mah kai khaeah, Anih nuiah kacuk, anghum tathuk Muithla to na hnuk nahaeloe, Anih loe Kacai Muithla hoi tuinuem ih kami ah ni oh, tiah ang thuih.
I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’
34 Ka hnuk ih baktiah hae kami loe Sithaw Capa ni, tiah ka taphong boeh, tiah thuih.
I have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.”
35 Khawnbangah Johan loe a hnukbang hnik hoi nawnto angdoet;
Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,
36 loklam ah kacaeh Jesu to a hnuk naah, Khenah, Sithaw Tuucaa! tiah thuih.
and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
37 To lok to a hnukbang hnik mah thaih hoi naah, Jesu hnukah bang hoi ving.
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Anih hnukah bang kami hnik to Jesu mah hnuk naah, angqoi moe, nihnik khaeah, Timaw na pakrong hoi? tiah a naa. Nihnik mah anih khaeah, Rabbi, (Patukkung, tiah thuih koehhaih ih ni) naa ah maw na oh? tiah a naa hoi.
Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”
39 Anih mah nihnik khaeah, Angzoh loe, khen hoih, tiah a naa. Nihnik loe caeh hoi moe, anih ohhaih ahmuen to khet hoi, to na ni loe Anih hoi nawnto oh hoi: to nathuem ah atue hato phak tom boeh.
He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
40 Johan mah thuih ih lok thaih, Anih hnukah bang kami hnik thung ih maeto loe, Simon Piter ih amnawk Andru ni.
One of the two who heard John and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 Andru loe amya Simon to pakrong hamloe moe, anih khaeah, Messiah (Kri, tiah thuih koehhaih ih ni) to ka hnuk o boeh, tiah a naa.
He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).
42 Anih mah amya to Jesu khaeah caeh haih. Jesu mah anih to khet moe, Nang loe Jona capa Simon: Cepha (thlung, tiah thuih koehhaih ih ni, ) tiah kawk tih boeh, tiah a naa.
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).
43 Jesu loe khawnbangah Kalili ah caeh han amsak, Philip to a hnuk naah anih khaeah, Ka hnukah bangah, tiah a naa.
On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
44 Philip loe Andru hoi Piter baktih toengah Bethsaida vangpui ih kami ah oh.
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip mah Nathanael to hnuk naah anih khaeah, Kaicae loe Mosi ih kaalok hoi tahmaanawk mah tarik ih, Joseph capa, Nazareth Jesu to ka hnuk o boeh, tiah a naa.
Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 Nathanael mah anih khaeah, Nazareth hoiah hmuen kahoih tacawt thai tih maw? tiah a naa. Philip mah anih khaeah, Angzoh loe khen ah, tiah a naa.
Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Philip khaeah kangzo Nathanael to Jesu mah hnuk naah, anih khaeah, Khenah, alinghaih tawn ai, Israel kami tangtang! tiah a naa.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael mah anih khaeah, Natuek naah maw kai nang panoek loe? tiah a naa. Jesu mah anih khaeah, Philip mah na kawk ai vop, thaiduet kung tlim ah na oh naah, kang hnuk boeh, tiah a naa.
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 To naah Nathanael mah anih khaeah, Patukkung, Nang loe Sithaw Capa, Israel Siangpahrang ni, tiah a naa.
Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!”
50 Jesu mah anih khaeah, Thaiduet kung tlim ah na oh naah, kang hnuk boeh, tiah kang naa pongah maw na tang? Hae pongah kalen kue hmuennawk to na hnu vop tih, tiah a naa.
Jesus answered him, “Because I told you, ‘I saw you underneath the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these!”
51 Jesu mah anih khaeah, Loktang to, loktang ah, Kang thuih o, Kam-ong van to na hnu o ueloe, Kami Capa nuiah daw tahang anghum tathuk Sithaw ih van kaminawk to na hnu o tih, tiah a naa.
He said to him, “Most certainly, I tell you all, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
