< Johan 5 >
1 To pacoengah Judahnawk ih poih to oh; to naah Jesu loe Jerusalem ah caeh tahang.
After this, there was a Jewish festival so Jesus went to Jerusalem.
2 Jerusalem vangpui ih tuu khongkha taengah, Hebru lok hoi Bethesda, tiah kawk ih tuili maeto oh, toah imphu kaom anghakhaih ahmuen pangato oh.
Now near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem is a pool called Bethzatha in Hebrew, with five porches beside it.
3 To ahmuen ah mikmaeng, khokkhaem, kangoi hoi nganna kaminawk angsong o mangh moe, kangphui tui to a zing o.
Crowds of sick people were lying in these porches—those who were blind, lame, or paralyzed.
4 Atue atue naah van kami to angzoh tathuk moe, tui to angphuisak: mi kawbaktih doeh tui angphui naah lungpung hmaloe loe a tawnh ih kawbaktih nathaih doeh hoih.
5 To naah saning quithumto pacoeng, tazetto kangoi kami maeto tui taengah oh.
One man who was there had been sick for thirty-eight years. Jesus looked at him, knowing he had been lying there for long time, and asked him,
6 Jesu mah to kami loe saning paroeai kasawk ah to ahmuen ah angsong boeh, tito panoek naah, anih mah to kami khaeah, Ngantui han na koeh maw? tiah a naa.
“Do you want to be healed?”
7 Nganna kami mah anih khaeah, Angraeng, tui angphui naah kai tui thungah va kami om ai: kang thawk moe, ka caeh li naah, kalah kaminawk ka hma ah lungpung o ving boeh, tiah a naa.
“Sir,” the sick man answered, “I don't have anyone to help me get into the pool when the water is stirred. While I'm trying to get there, someone always gets in before me.”
8 Jesu mah anih khaeah, Angthawk ah, nangmah ih nambaih to la ah loe, caeh laih, tiah a naa.
“Stand up, pick up your mat, and start walking!” Jesus told him.
9 Akra ai ah to kami to ngantui roep, angmah ih kahni to lak moe, a caeh: to na ni loe Sabbath ah oh.
Immediately the man was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking. Now the day that this happened was the Sabbath.
10 To naah Judahnawk mah ngantui kami khaeah, Vaihni loe Sabbath niah oh: kahni lak han daan na ai ni, tiah a naa o.
So the Jews said to the man who'd been healed, “This is the Sabbath! It's against the law to carry a mat!”
11 Toe anih mah nihcae khaeah, Kai ngantuisak kami mah, kai khaeah, nangmah ih kahni to la ah loe, caeh laih, tiah ang naa, tiah pathim pae.
“The man who healed me told me to pick up my mat and start walking,” he replied.
12 To naah nihcae mah anih khaeah, Nangmah ih kahni to la ah loe, caeh laih, tiah thui kami loe mi aa? tiah dueng o.
“Who's this person who told you to carry your mat and walk?” they asked.
13 Jesu loe toah kangpop paroeai kaminawk salakah caeh ving boeh pongah, ngantui kami mah anih loe mi kawbaktih maw, tito panoek ai boeh.
However, the man who'd been healed didn't know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the surrounding crowd.
14 To pacoengah Jesu mah anih to tempul thungah hnuk, anih khaeah, Khenah, ngan na tui boeh: zaehaih sah let hmah lai ah, to tih ai nahaeloe kanung aep hmuen na nuiah pha tih, tiah a naa.
Later on Jesus found the man in the Temple, and told him, “Look, now you've been healed. So stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
15 To kami loe caeh moe, anih ngantuisak kami loe Jesu ni, tiah Judahnawk khaeah thuih pae.
The man went and told the Jews it was Jesus who had healed him.
16 Jesu mah Sabbath niah to baktih hmuennawk sak pongah, Judahnawk mah Jesu to pacaekthlaek moe, hum hanah pacaeng o.
So the Jews started to harass Jesus because he was doing things on the Sabbath.
17 Toe Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Kam Pa loe vaihi khoek to toksak vop, to pongah kai doeh tok ka sak toeng, tiah a naa.
But Jesus told them, “My Father is still working, and so am I.”
18 Anih loe Sabbath ni to zaa ai khue na ai ah, Sithaw loe Kam Pa ni, tiah thui moe, angmah hoi angmah to Sithaw hoi kangvan ah suek pongah, Judahnawk mah anih to hum hanah pacaeng o aep.
This was why the Jews tried even harder to kill him, for not only did he break the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God.
19 Jesu mah nihcae khaeah hae tiah lok pathim pae, Loktang to, loktang ah, Kang thuih o, Ampa mah sak ih hmuen hnu ai ah, Capa loe angmah koeh ah tidoeh sah thai ai: ampa mah sak ih hmuennawk baktih toengah ni, Capa mah doeh sak toeng.
Jesus explained to them, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does the Son does as well.
20 Ampa mah Capa to palung pongah, a sak ih hmuennawk boih to anih hanah patuek: na dawnrai o hanah, hae hmuennawk pongah kalen kue anih han patuek vop tih.
For the Father loves the Son, and reveals to him everything he does; and the Father will show to him even more incredible things that will completely amaze you.
21 Ampa mah kadueh kaminawk to pathawk moe, nihcae han hinghaih paek baktih toengah, Capa mah doeh angmah koeh ih kaminawk khaeah hinghaih to paek.
For just as the Father gives life to those he resurrects from the dead, in the same way the Son also gives life to those that he wants.
22 Ampa loe mi doeh lokcaek ai, lokcaekhaih to Capa khaeah paek boih boeh:
The Father judges no one. He has given to the Son all the authority to judge,
23 Ampa to saiqat o baktih toengah, Capa to kami boih mah saiqat o thai hanah to tiah paek. A Capa saiqat ai kami loe, anih patoehkung ampa doeh saiqat ai.
so that everyone may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who doesn't honor the Son doesn't honor the Father who sent him.
24 Loktang to, loktang ah, Kang thuih o, Ka lok hae tahngai moe, kai patoehkung Anih to tang kami loe, dungzan hinghaih to tawnh boeh pongah, lokcaekhaih tong mak ai; duekhaih thung hoiah a poeng boeh moe, hinghaih thungah akun boeh. (aiōnios )
I tell you the truth: those who follow what I say and trust the one who sent me have eternal life. They won't be condemned, but have gone from death to life. (aiōnios )
25 Loktang to, loktang ah, Kang thuih o, Kadueh kaminawk mah Sithaw Capa ih lok to thai o tih: lok thaih kaminawk loe hing o tih, to baktih atue to angzo tih, vaihi doeh angzoh boeh.
I tell you the truth: The time is coming—in fact it's here already—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live!
26 Ampa loe angmah ah hinghaih to tawnh boeh, to baktih toengah Capa mah doeh angmah ah hinghaih tawnh hanah ampa mah paek boeh.
Just as the Father has life-giving power in himself, so has he given the Son the same life-giving power in himself.
27 Anih loe Kami Capa ah oh pongah, lokcaek thaihaih doeh anih hanah paek boeh.
The Father also granted the authority for judgment to him, for he is the Son of man.
28 Hae pongah dawnrai o sak hmah: taprong thung kaom kaminawk boih mah anih ih lok thaihaih atue to pha tih,
Don't be surprised at this, for the time is coming when all those in the grave will hear his voice
29 kahoih hmuen sah kaminawk loe, hinghaih to toep hanah, angthawk o let ueloe, kasae hmuen sah kaminawk doeh, lokcaekhaih hnuk hanah, angthawk o let tih.
and will rise again: those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.
30 Kai loe kaimah koeh ah tidoeh sah thai ai: ka thaih ih baktih toengah lok ka caek: kaimah koehhaih to ka pakrong ai, kai patoehkung Pa koehhaih to ni ka pakrong, to pongah ka lokcaekhaih loe amsoem.
I can do nothing by myself. I judge based on what I'm told, and my decision is right, for I'm not doing my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
31 Kaimah hoi kaimah hnukung ah ka oh nahaeloe, hnukung ah ka ohhaih to amsoem mak ai.
If I were to make claims about myself, such claims wouldn't be valid;
32 Toe kai hnukung kalah maeto oh; anih mah kai hnukung ah ohhaih lok loe amsoem, tiah ka panoek.
but someone else gives evidence about me, and I know what he says about me is true.
33 Anih loe loktang hnukung ah oh pongah, Johan khaeah kami na patoeh o.
You asked John about me, and he told the truth,
34 Toe kami mah thuih ih hnukung ah ohhaih to ka tapom ai: toe pahlonghaih na hnuk o thai han ih ni hae loknawk hae ka thuih.
but I don't need any human endorsement. I'm explaining this to you so you can be saved.
35 Johan loe kangqong, aanghaih paekkung hmai-im ah oh: nangcae loe anih aanghaih thungah nawnetta thung khue anghoe han ih ni na koeh o.
John was like a brightly-burning light, and you were willing to enjoy his light for a while.
36 Toe kai loe Johan pong kalen kue hnukung to ka tawnh: kai loe toksak pacoeng hanah Pa mah ang paek ih toknawk to ni ka sak, to toknawk loe Pa mah ang patoeh, tiah hnukung ah oh o.
But the evidence I'm giving is greater than John's. For I am doing the work that the Father gave me to do,
37 Kai patoehkung, Pa loe kai hnukung ah oh. Nangcae mah loe anih ih lok to na thaih o vai ai, anih ih krang doeh na hnu o vai ai.
and this is the proof that the Father sent me. The Father who sent me, he himself speaks on my behalf. You've never heard his voice, and you've never seen what he looks like,
38 Nangcae thungah anih ih lok om ai pongah, anih mah patoeh ih kami to na tang o ai.
and you don't accept what he says, because you don't trust in the one he sent.
39 Nangcae dungzan hinghaih loe Cabu thungah oh, tiah na poek o pongah, Cabunawk to na khet o; to Cabunawk loe kai kawng thuikung ah ni oh o. (aiōnios )
You search the Scriptures because you think that through them you'll gain eternal life. But the evidence they give is in support of me! (aiōnios )
40 Toe hinghaih na hnuk o hanah, kai khaeah angzoh han na koeh o ai.
And yet you don't want to come to me so that you might live.
41 Kai loe kaminawk pakoehhaih to tiah doeh ka poek ai.
I'm not looking for human approval
42 Toe nangcae thungah Sithaw amlunghaih om ai, tito ka panoek.
—I know you, and that you don't have God's love in you.
43 Kai loe kam Pa ih ahmin hoiah ni kang zoh, toe kai to nang talawk o ai: angmah ih ahmin hoiah kalah kami to angzo nahaeloe, anih to na talawk o tih.
For I've come to represent my Father, and you won't accept me; but if someone comes representing themselves, then you accept them!
44 Sithaw khae khue hoiah angzo pakoehhaih to pakrong ai ah, kami maeto hoi maeto pakoehhaih to na koeh o pongah, kawbangmaw na tang o thai tih?
How can you trust in me when you look for praise from one another and yet you don't look for praise from the one true God?
45 Kai mah Pa hmaa ah nangcae zaehaih net tih, tiah poek o hmah: nangcae zaehaih net kami loe na oep o ih, Mosi ni.
But don't think I will be making accusations about you to the Father. It's Moses who is accusing you, the one in whom you place such confidence.
46 Mosi na tang o nahaeloe, kai doeh nang tang o tih: anih loe kai kawng ni tarik.
For if you really trusted Moses you would trust in me, because he wrote about me.
47 Toe anih mah tarik ih loknawk to na tang o ai nahaeloe, kawbangmaw ka thuih ih loknawk to na tang o thai tih? tiah a naa.
But since you don't trust what he said, why would you trust what I say?”
