< Job 31 >
1 Tangla to koehhaih mik hoiah ka khet han ai ah, ka mik hoi lokkamhaih to ka sak.
I made a covenant with mine eyes, and I will not think upon a virgin.
2 To tiah nahaeloe Sithaw mah ranui bang hoiah kawbaktih taham maw paek ueloe, ranui ih Thacak Sithaw mah kawbaktih toep han koi qawk maw paek tih?
Now what portion has God given from above? and is there an inheritance [given] of the Mighty One from the highest?
3 Kasae kaminawk hanah amrohaih om ueloe, zaehaih sah kaminawk hanah anghmathaih om mak ai maw?
Alas! destruction to the unrighteous, and rejection to them that do iniquity.
4 Anih mah loe ka caehhaih loklamnawk to panoek moe, ka khok tangkannawk doeh kroek boih na ai maw?
Will he not see my way, and number all my steps?
5 Amsoem ai ah ka caeh moe, alinghaih bangah ka khok tangkan to rang nahaeloe,
But if I had gone with scorners, and if too my foot has hasted to deceit:
6 kamsoem coih tahhaih hoiah na tah nasoe loe, coek koi om ai ah kho ka sakhaih to Sithaw mah panoek nasoe.
(for I am weighed in a just balance, and the Lord knows my innocence: )
7 Loklam kam khraeng ving moe, ka palungthin mah ka mik koehhaih hnukah patom moeng maw, to tih ai boeh loe ka ban ah panuet thok hmuen maw akap moeng nahaeloe,
if my foot has turned aside out of the way, or if mine heart has followed mine eye, and if too I have touched gifts with my hands;
8 ka patit ih thingthai to minawk kalah mah caa nasoe, ue, ka patit ih akungnawk doeh aphong o king nasoe.
then let me sow, and let others eat; and let me be uprooted on the earth.
9 Nongpata maeto mah ka palung hae pacuek moe, ka imtaeng kami ih khongkha ah anih to ka zing nahaeloe,
If my heart has gone forth after another man's wife, and if I laid wait at her doors;
10 ka zu mah minawk ih cang to daeng pae nasoe loe, minawk mah ka zu to muk o nasoe.
then let my wife also please another, and let my children be brought low.
11 Hae hmuen loe kalen parai zaehaih ah oh; ue, lokcaekkung mah danpaek han koi zaehaih ah oh.
For the rage of anger is not to be controlled, [in the case] of defiling [another] man's wife.
12 To zaehaih loe amrosak thaih hmai, ka tawnh ih hmuennawk tangzuun khoek to kangh boih hmai ah oh.
For it is a fire burning on every side, and whomsoever it attacks, it utterly destroys.
13 Ka tamna nongpa hoi nongpatanawk mah kai laisaep o thuih naah, nihcae to khet ka patoek nahaeloe,
And if too I despised the judgment of my servant or [my] handmaid, when they pleaded with me;
14 Sithaw amtueng naah timaw ka sak moe, lokcaek naah timaw ka pathim han?
what then shall I do if the Lord should try me? and if also he should at all visit me, can I make an answer?
15 Anih doeh kai sahkung Sithaw mah na ai maw sak? Kaihnik loe sahkung maeto mah na ai maw zok thungah sak hmaek?
Were not they too formed as I also was formed in the womb? yea, we were formed in the same womb.
16 Caaknaek tawn ai kami hanah caaknaek ka paek ai maw, lamhmai ih mik to kam rosak maw,
But the helpless missed not whatever need they had, and I did not cause the eye of the widow to fail.
17 to tih ai boeh loe amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk hanah caaknaek paek ai ah, kaimabueng ah ka caak maw,
And if too I ate my morsel alone, and did not impart [of it] to the orphan;
18 (ka thendoeng nathuem hoi ampa ah angcoeng khoek to caaknaek tawn ai kami to ka pacah, ka tapen tangsuek natuem hoi anih to ka bomh boeh; )
(for I nourished [them] as a father from my youth and guided [them] from my mother's womb.)
19 khukbuen tawn ai ah dueh kami hoi khukbuen tawn ai ah kaom amtang kami to ka hnuk moe,
And if too I overlooked the naked as he was perishing, and did not clothe him;
20 kai mah anih to bae um ah tuumui kang khuksak ai pongah, anih mah kai tahamhoihaih paek ai maw,
and if the poor did not bless me, and their shoulders were [not] warmed with the fleece of my lambs;
21 lokcaekhaih im ah kai angdoe haih kami om tih hmang, tiah ka poek pongah, amno ampa tawn ai kami to ka pacaekthlaek nahaeloe,
if I lifted my hand against an orphan, trusting that my strength was far superior [to his]:
22 ka ban tampawk hae palaeng hoiah amkhraeng ving nasoe loe, ka palaeng huh doeh angkhaek lawt nasoe.
let them my shoulder start from the blade-bone, and my arm be crushed off from the elbow.
23 Sithaw khae hoi ih amrohaih to ka zit, a Lensawkhaih to ka zit pongah to baktih hmuen to ka sah ai.
For the fear of the Lord constrained me, and I cannot bear up by reason of his burden.
24 Sui to kang oep haih maw, to tih ai boeh loe kaciim suitui khaeah, Nang loe ka buephaih ah na oh, tiah ka thuih moeng maw,
If I made gold my treasure, and if too I trusted the precious stone;
25 hmuenmae paroeai ka tawnh moe, ka ban mah hmuenmae paroeai hak thaih pongah kam oek moeng maw,
and if too I rejoiced when my wealth was abundant, and if too I laid my hand on innumerable [treasures]:
26 ni aengh to ka khet moe, a aanghaih hoiah kacaeh khrah to ka khet naah,
(do we not see the shining sun eclipsed, and the moon waning? for they have not [power to continue]: )
27 tamquta hoi anghoehaih ka tawnh moe, ka pakha mah ka ban hae mok cadoeh;
and if my heart was secretly deceived, and if I have laid my hand upon my mouth and kissed it:
28 lokcaek koi kaom zaehaih ah ni oh, ranui koekah kaom Sithaw angphat taak baktiah ni oh.
let this also then be reckoned to me as the greatest iniquity: for I [should] have lied against the Lord Most High.
29 Kai hnuma kami amro naah, kang hoe moe, anih raihaih tongh naah, kam oek vai maw,
And if too I was glad at the fall of mine enemies, and mine heart said, Aha!
30 a hinghaih tangoeng moe, zaehaih sak hanah pakha ka aang mak ai.
let then mine ear hear my curse, and let me be a byword among my people in my affliction.
31 Ka imthung ah kaom kaminawk mah, zok kamhah ah Job ih moi caa o vai ai, tiah thui o mak ai.
And if too my handmaids have often said, Oh that we might be satisfied with his flesh; (whereas I was very kind:
32 Angvinnawk loklam ah iih o han ai ah, kholong caeh kaminawk hanah khongkha to ka paongh pae.
for the stranger did not lodge without, and my door was opened to every one that came: )
33 Adam baktiah ka zaehaih ka hawk ai, ka zaehaih palung thungah ka hawk vai ai;
or if too having sinned unintentionally, I hid my sin;
34 pop parai kami to ka zit, to tih ai boeh loe acaeng kaminawk mah pahnui thui haih to ka zit pongah, kang hngai duem moe, tasa bang tacawt ai ah ka oh vai maw?
(for I did not stand in awe of a great multitude, so as not to declare boldly before them: ) and if too I permitted a poor man to go out of my door with an empty bosom:
35 Aw kami maeto mah loe ka lok hae tahngai nasoe! Khenah, vaihi koehhaih lok ka thuih han vop; Thacak Sithaw mah na pathim nasoe; ka zaehaih netkung mah ka zaehaih hae ca ah tarik nasoe.
(Oh that I had a hearer, ) and if I had not feared the hand of the Lord; and [as to] the written charge which I had against any one,
36 To ca to palaeng ah ka put moe, sui lumuek baktiah kang muek han.
I would place [it] as a chaplet on my shoulders, and read it.
37 Ka caehhaih khok tangkannawk anih khaeah ka thuih moe, siangpahrang capa baktiah a taengah ka caeh han.
And if I did not read it and return it, having taken nothing from the debtor:
38 Kai ih long mah kai hae kasae thuih maw, to tih ai boeh loe mikkhraetui hoiah a qah maw,
If at any time the land groaned against me, and if its furrows mourned together;
39 atho paek ai ah anih ih thingthai to ka caak pae moe, laikok tawnkungnawk hinghaih to kam rosak nahaeloe,
and if I ate its strength alone without price, and if I too grieved the heart of the owner of the soil, by taking [aught] from [him]:
40 cang zuengah soekhringkung amprawk nasoe loe, barli cang zuengah phroh amprawk lat nasoe, tiah a naa. Job ih lok loe hae ah boeng boeh.
then let the nettle come up to me instead of wheat, and a bramble instead of barley. And Job ceased speaking.
