< Job 20 >
1 To naah Naamath acaeng Zophar mah;
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,
2 ka pathim hanah, ka palung thungah toksak pongah, karangah ka thuih han.
“Therefore my thoughts answer me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.
3 Kai kasae na thuihaih hoi zoehhaih lok to ka thaih boeh, to pongah pathim han angaih, tiah palung thung hoi ka panoek.
I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame. The spirit of my understanding answers me.
4 Long ah kami oh tangsuekhaih atue, canghnii atue hoi kaom hae baktih hmuen hae na panoek ai maw?
Do not you know this from old time, since man was placed on earth,
5 Kasae kami khosak hoihaih loe sawk ai, Sithaw tidoeh sah ai kami anghoehaih doeh nawnetta ah ni oh.
that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?
6 A lensawkhaih mah van to phak moe, a lu mah tamai angtok cadoeh,
Though his height mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds,
7 anih loe angmah ih aek baktiah ni amro poe tih, anih hnu kaminawk mah, Anih loe naa ah maw oh ving boeh? tiah thui o tih.
yet he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
8 Anih loe amang baktiah azawk ving tih, hnu mak ai boeh; ue, khoving amang ah hnuk ih hmuen baktiah anghmaa ving tih.
He will fly away as a dream, and will not be found. Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
9 Anih hnu mik mah anih to hnu let mak ai boeh; a ohhaih ahmuen mah doeh anih to khen mak ai boeh.
The eye which saw him will see him no more, neither will his place see him any more.
10 A caanawk loe amtang kaminawk khaeah tahmenhaih hni o ueloe, a tawnh o ih hmuenmae to a ban hoiah paek pathok o let tih.
His children will seek the favor of the poor. His hands will give back his wealth.
11 Anih ih huhongnawk loe thendoeng thacak nathuem ih zaehaih hoiah koi cadoeh, angmah hoi nawnto maiphu thungah angsong tih.
His bones are full of his youth, but youth will lie down with him in the dust.
12 Sethaih loe anih ih pakha ah luep, anih mah angmah ih palai tlim ah hawk moe,
“Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,
13 paawt pongah pahnawt sut han koeh ai, angmah ih pakha thungah paumh hmoek cadoeh,
though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth,
14 a caak ih buh zok thungah phak naah thaw ueloe, pahui sae ih kasoetui ah angcoeng pae tih.
yet his food in his bowels is turned. It is cobra venom within him.
15 Anih mah paaeh ih angraenghaihnawk to pathaak let ueloe, Sithaw mah anih ih zok thung hoiah la let tih.
He has swallowed down riches, and he will vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.
16 Anih loe pahui sae ih kasoetui to pazop ueloe, pahui sae mah anih to patuk maat tih.
He will suck cobra venom. The viper’s tongue will kill him.
17 Anih loe kalong tuipui, khoitui hoi kamkhawk tahnutui longhaih tui to hnu mak ai.
He will not look at the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and butter.
18 A toksakhaih atho to caa mak ai, minawk hanah paek let tih; to tiah a paek let pongah anih loe anghoehaih tawn mak ai.
He will restore that for which he labored, and will not swallow it down. He will not rejoice according to the substance that he has gotten.
19 Anih mah kamtang kaminawk to pacaekthlaek moe, tiah doeh sah ai; angmah sak ai ih imnawk to a lomh pae pongah to tiah oh.
For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he will not build it up.
20 Anih loe koehhaih boep thai ai; a koeh ih hmuen mah anih pahlong thai mak ai.
“Because he knew no quietness within him, he will not save anything of that in which he delights.
21 Anih mah caak han ih buh tidoeh om mak ai boeh; a tawnh ih angraenghaih hmuen doeh cak poe mak ai.
There was nothing left that he did not devour, therefore his prosperity will not endure.
22 Hmuenmae angraeng nathuem ah amtang ueloe, a nuiah raihaih congca to pha tih.
In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress will overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come on him.
23 Anih zok amhah han oh naah, Sithaw mah palungphuihaih to a nuiah phasak ueloe, buhcaak nathuem ah palungphuihaih khotui baktiah angzo tih.
When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.
24 Anih loe sum hoi sak ih maiphaw maica thung hoiah loih; toe sumkamling palaa mah anih to kaat tih.
He will flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow will strike him through.
25 Anih loe a takpum thung hoi tacawt, palaa to aphongh; ue, anih ih ahmuet thung hoiah rong kampha sumsen to tacawt; a nuiah zithaih to phak;
He draws it out, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.
26 anih tamquta hoi ohhaih ahmuen ah khovinghaih to suek pae; anih loe kami mah hmuh ai ih hmai mah kang tih; a ohhaih kahni im ah kaom hmuennawk boih to kangh pae tih.
All darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire will devour him. It will consume that which is left in his tent.
27 Van mah anih sakpazaehaih amtuengsak tih, long mah doeh anih han misa angthawk thui tih.
The heavens will reveal his iniquity. The earth will rise up against him.
28 A im ih hmuenmaenawk to anghmaa tih, Angraeng palungphuihaih niah loe anih khosak hoihaih to tui baktiah long tih.
The increase of his house will depart. They will rush away in the day of his wrath.
29 Sithaw mah to baktih tangqum to kasae kaminawk hanah paek, Sitawh mah to baktih qawktoep hanah anih to suek, tiah a naa.
This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God.”
