< Job 18 >

1 To naah Shud acaeng Bildad mah,
And Bildad the Shuhite answereth and saith: —
2 hae tiah na thuih ih loknawk hae natuek naah maw boeng tih? Kahoih ah pakuem ah, lok ka thuih o han vop.
When do ye set an end to words? Consider ye, and afterwards do we speak.
3 Tipongah kaicae hae moisan baktih, kamthu baktiah na poek loe?
Wherefore have we been reckoned as cattle? We have been defiled in your eyes!
4 Palungphui moe, angmah hoi angmah ngan angsik, nang pongah, long hae anghuen tih maw? Thlung loe a ohhaih ahmuen hoiah angthui tih maw?
(He is tearing himself in his anger.) For thy sake is earth forsaken? And removed is a rock from its place?
5 Ue, kasae kami ih hmaithaw loe dueh tih, kangqong anih ih hmai doeh aang mak ai.
Also, the light of the wicked is extinguished. And there doth not shine a spark of his fire.
6 Anih kahni im ih hmai to aang han ai ah, anih ih hmaithawk to paduek pae ving tih.
The light hath been dark in his tent, And his lamp over him is extinguished.
7 Anih thacakhaih khok tangkannawk loe tamcaek tih; angmah koeh ah khokhanhaih mah anih to amtimsak tih.
Straitened are the steps of his strength, And cast him down doth his own counsel.
8 Anih ih khok loe palok pongah aman moe, thaang to cawh.
For he is sent into a net by his own feet, And on a snare he doth walk habitually.
9 Anih ih khok thaang pongah aman moe, loih thai ai ah asawt khing.
Seize on the heel doth a gin, Prevail over him do the designing.
10 Anih hanah long thungah qumqaih pae moe, a caehhaih loklam ah thaang to patung pae.
Hidden in the earth is his cord, And his trap on the path.
11 Zitthok hmuen mah caeh nakung kruekah anih to tasoehsak; a khok takan kruek anih hnukah bang pae.
Round about terrified him have terrors, And they have scattered him — at his feet.
12 Anih loe zok amthlam pongah thazok, amrohaih mah anih to zing coek.
Hungry is his sorrow, And calamity is ready at his side.
13 To amrohaih mah a nganhin ahap to caak pae, calu duekhaih mah a thacakhaih to paaeh pae ving tih.
It consumeth the parts of his skin, Consume his parts doth death's first-born.
14 Anih to kamongah ohhaih kahni imthung hoiah pathok ueloe, zitthok siangpahrang hmaa ah caeh haih tih.
Drawn from his tent is his confidence, And it causeth him to step to the king of terrors.
15 A ohhaih ahmuen ah anih ih hmuen tidoeh anghmat mak ai; a ohhaih ahmuen ah kaat hmai to haeh pae tih.
It dwelleth in his tent — out of his provender, Scattered over his habitation is sulphur.
16 Anih ih tangzuunnawk loe long thungah zaek o moe, a nui ih tanghangnawk doeh angqo o.
From beneath his roots are dried up, And from above cut off is his crop.
17 Anih panoekhaih loe long ah anghmat moe, prae thungah ahmin om ai boeh.
His memorial hath perished from the land, And he hath no name on the street.
18 Aanghaih thung hoiah vinghaih thungah anih to haek boeh moe, long nui hoiah haek ving boeh.
They thrust him from light unto darkness, And from the habitable earth cast him out.
19 Anih loe angmah ih kaminawk salakah capa tawn ai, a caanawk ih caa patoeng doeh tawn mak ai, a imthung takoh ah mi doeh anghmat mak ai.
He hath no continuator, Nor successor among his people, And none is remaining in his dwellings.
20 Ni angyae bang ih kaminawk loe tasoeh o baktih toengah, niduem bangah kaom kaminawk doeh anih kawng pongah dawnrai o.
At this day westerns have been astonished And easterns have taken fright.
21 Kasae kami khosakhaih loe to tiah oh, Sithaw panoek ai kami ohhaih ahmuen doeh to tiah oh tangtang, tiah pathim pae.
Only these [are] tabernacles of the perverse, And this the place God hath not known.
