< Job 1 >

1 Uz prae ah Job, tiah kawk ih kami maeto oh; to kami loe coek koi om ai, katoeng kami ah oh; Sithaw zit moe, kahoih ai hmuen ayae koeh kami ah oh.
There was a man in the land of 'Uz, Job was his name; And this man was perfect and upright, and fearing God, and eschewing evil.
2 Anih loe capa sarihto hoi canu thumto sak.
And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
3 Tuu sang sarih, kaengkuu hrang sang thum, laikok atok thaih maitawtae cumvai pangato, laa hrang cumvai pangato tawnh moe, tamna paroeai a tawnh; anih loe ni angyae bang ih kaminawk boih thungah kalen koek ah oh.
And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and he had a very great store of servants: so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east.
4 Anih ih capanawk loe saning kruek, angmacae tapenhaih niah angmacae im ah buhraenghaih poih to sak o, to naah a tanuh thumtonawk doeh, nawnto buhcaak hanah kawk o toeng.
And his sons used to go and prepare a feast in the house of every one on his day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 Job mah ka caanawk loe palungthin thungah Sithaw to kasae thuih o moe, zae o moeng boeh mue, tiah a poek pongah, buhraenghaih poih boeng pacoengah, nihcae to kawk moe, ciimcaisak; nihcae boih hanah hmai angbawnhaih to akhawnbang kruek a sak pae. Job mah to tiah sak toepsoep.
And it happened, when the days of the feast were gone round, that Job sent and sanctified them, and he then rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of all of them; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and have renounced God in their heart. In this manner used Job to do all the time.
6 Nito naah Sithaw ih caanawk loe Angraeng hmaa ah angphong hanah angzoh o, to naah Setan doeh nihcae salakah angzoh toeng.
Now it happened on a certain day, when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, that the Accuser also came in the midst of them.
7 Angraeng mah Setan khaeah, naa hoiah maw nang zoh? tiah a naa. Setan mah Angraeng khaeah, Long pum ahnuk ahmaa kam het nakung hoiah kang zoh, tiah a naa.
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Whence comest thou? And the Accuser answered the Lord, and said, From roaming over the earth, and from wandering through it.
8 To pacoengah Angraeng mah Setan khaeah, Ka tamna Job ho na poek vai maw? Long nuiah anih baktih kami mi doeh om ai; anih loe coek koi om ai, katoeng kami ah oh, Sithaw to zit moe, kasae hmuen sak koeh ai kami ah oh, tiah a naa.
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Hast thou directed thy attention toward my servant Job; for there is none like him on the earth, a man perfect and upright, who feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9 Setan mah Angraeng khaeah, Job loe tidoeh na ai ah Sithaw to zit maw?
Then answered the Accuser the Lord, and said, Is it for nought that Job feareth God?
10 Anih hoi a imthung takoh, a tawnh ih hmuennawk boih loe sipae baktiah na pakaa pae na ai maw? A toksakhaih nuiah tahamhoihaih na paek pongah, anih loe prae thungah hmuenmae paroeai angraeng boeh.
Behold, thou hast indeed placed a fence about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side: the work of his hands hast thou blessed, and his cattle are far spread out in the land.
11 Toe vaihiah na ban phok ah loe, a tawnh ih hmuennawk boih paro pae ah, anih mah na hmaa roe ah nang to kasae thui tih, tiah a naa.
But stretch only forth thy hand and touch all that he hath, and [see] whether he will not renounce thee to thy face.
12 Angraeng mah Setan khaeah, Khenah, a tawnh ih hmuennawk boih na ban ah oh; toe angmah to loe na ban hoi sui hmah, tiah a naa.
Then said the Lord unto the Accuser, Behold, all that is his be in thy power; only against himself shalt thou not stretch forth thy hand. The Accuser went thereupon away from the presence of the Lord.
13 Nito naah Job capa hoi canunawk loe amya nongpa kacoeh koek im ah buhcaak o moe, misurtui a naek o nathuem ah,
And it happened on a certain day, when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their first-born brother,
14 Job khaeah laicaeh maeto angzoh moe, Na tamnanawk loe maitawtae hoiah laikok atok o moe, a taengah laa hrangnawk rawkcak caak o li naah,
That a messenger came unto Job, and said, The oxen were ploughing, and the she-asses were feeding beside them:
15 Sabean kaminawk to angzoh o moe, tuk o pacoengah, maetawtaenawk hoi laa hrangnawk to lak pae o king; ue, nihcae mah na tamnanawk to sumsen hoiah hum o, nang khaeah tamthang thuih hanah kai khue ni loih, tiah a naa.
When the Sabeans made an incursion, and took them away, and the young men they slew with the edge of the sword; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
16 Anih mah lokthuih li naah, kalah laicaeh maeto angzoh let moe, Van hoiah Sithaw ih hmai krak tathuk moe, nang ih tuunawk hoi na tamnanawk to kangh boih, nang khaeah tamthang thuih hanah kai khue ni loih, tiah a naa.
This one was yet speaking, when another came, and said, A fire of God fell from heaven, and burnt among the sheep and the young men, and consumed them; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
17 Anih mah lokthuih li naah, kalah laicaeh maeto angzoh let moe, Khaldea kaminawk abu thumto ah angzoh o, kaengkuu hrangnawk to lak o moe, hoih o ving boeh, na tamnanawk loe sumsen hoiah hum o; nang khaeah tamthang thuih hanah kai khue ni loih, tiah a naa.
This one was yet speaking, when another came, and said, The Chaldeans posted themselves in three divisions, and made an inroad against the camels, and took them away, and the young men they slew with the edge of the sword; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
18 Anih mah lokthuih li naah, laicaeh kalah maeto angzoh let, laicaeh mah anih khaeah, Na capa hoi na canunawk loe amya kacoeh koek im ah buhcaak o moe, misurtui naek o nathuem ah,
While this one was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their first-born brother:
19 khenah, praezaek hoiah takhi to song moe, im to hmuh phaeng, im mah nawktanawk to taeh pongah, nihcae loe duek o boih; nang khaeah tamthang thuih hanah kai khue ni loih, tiah a naa.
When, behold, a violent wind came from the direction of the wilderness, and struck against the four corners of the house, so that it fell upon the young men, and they died; and I am escaped, none but myself alone, to tell it unto thee.
20 Hae lok thaih naah, Job loe angthawk moe, angmah ih kahni to asih, sam to aah moe, long ah tabok hoiah Sithaw to a bok,
Then arose Job, and rent his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and prostrated himself.
21 anih mah, Kam no zok thung hoi bangkrai ah kang zoh, bangkrai ah kam laem let han; Angraeng mah ang paek moe, Angraeng mah lak let boeh; Angraeng ih ahmin tahamhoihaih om nasoe, tiah thuih.
And he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; may the name of the Lord be blessed.
22 Anih loe hae baktih tahamsethaih hmuennawk boih to tongh, toe Job loe zaehaih sah ai; Sithaw doeh kasae thui ai.
With all this did Job not sin, and attributed no injustice to God.
