< Jeremiah 38 >
1 Jeremiah mah kaminawk boih khaeah thuih ih loknawk to Mattan capa Shephatiah, Pashur capa Gedaliah, Shelemiah capa Jukal, Malkijah capa Pashur cae mah thaih o,
Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,
2 Angraeng mah, Hae vangpui thungah anghmat kami loe sumsen, khokhahaih, kasae nathaih hoiah dueh o tih; toe Khaldian kaminawk khaeah cawn kami loe hing o tih; a hinghaih loe tangqum hnuk baktiah om ueloe, hing tih, tiah thuih.
"Thus says the LORD, 'He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live.'
3 Angraeng mah, Hae vangpui loe Babylon siangpahrang misatuh kaminawk ban ah paek ueloe, nihcae mah la o tih, tiah thuih.
Thus says the LORD, 'This city shall surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.'"
4 To naah ukkung angraengnawk mah siangpahrang khaeah, Anih mah hae baktih lok to thuih pongah, vangpui thungah kaminawk hoi misatuh kaminawk ih bantha to zoksak; anih loe hae kaminawk hoihhaih pakrong ai, sethaih ni a sak; to pongah anih to hum han oh, tiah tahmenhaih hnik o.
Then the officials said to the king, "Please let this man be put to death; because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man doesn't seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt."
5 Zedekiah siangpahrang mah, Khenah, anih loe nangcae ban ah ni oh; siangpahrang mah nangcae koeh ai ih hmuen tidoeh sah thai ai, tiah a naa.
Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you."
6 To pongah Jeremiah to naeh o moe, thongim longhma ah kaom, siangpahrang capa Malkiah ih tangqom khaw thungah pakhrak o; Jeremiah to qui hoiah pathlet o moe, long akhaw thungah pakhrak o tathuk. Tui khaw loe tui om ai, toe tangnong to oh, to pongah Jeremiah loe tangnong thungah krak zup.
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
7 Toe siangpahrang im ah toksah angraeng maeto ah kaom, tangyat mii dueh Ethiopia kami Ebed-Melek mah, Jeremiah long akhaw thungah pakhrak o, tiah thaih; siangpahrang Benjamin khongkha ah anghnut naah,
Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the Benjamin Gate),
8 Ebed-Melek loe siangpahrang im hoiah tacawt moe, siangpahrang khaeah,
Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,
9 ka angraeng siangpahrang, hae kaminawk loe tahmaa Jeremiah nuiah kanung parai sethaih sak o boeh, anih to long akhaw thungah pakhrak o; vangpui thungah takaw om ai boeh pongah, anih loe zok kamthlam ah dueh tih boeh, tiah a naa.
"My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city."
10 To naah Ethiopia kami Ebed-Melek khaeah siangpahrang mah, Hae ih kami qui thumtonawk hae caeh haih ah loe, tahmaa Jeremiah dueh ai naah tangqom khaw thung hoiah pathok oh, tiah a naa.
Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies."
11 To pongah Ebed-Melek mah kaminawk to caeh haih, nihcae loe siangpahrang imthung ih hmuenmae pakuemhaih tlim ih imkhaan maeto ah akun o, kaprawn kahninawk to a lak o moe, Jeremiah hanah long akhaw thungah qui hoiah pakhrak pae o tathuk.
So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
12 Ethiopia kami Ebed-Melek mah Jeremiah khaeah, Hae ih kahni kaprawnnawk hae palaeng tlim ah zaeng ah loe qui hoiah pathlet ah, tiah a naa. Anih mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah Jeremiah mah sak.
Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Put now these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords." Jeremiah did so.
13 Nihcae mah long akhaw thung ih Jeremiah to qui hoiah azuh o tahang; to pacoengah loe Jeremiah to thongim thungah suek o.
So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
14 To pacoengah Zedekiah siangpahrang mah tahmaa Jeremiah to kawk hanah kami patoeh moe, Angraeng imthung akunhaih khongkha thumto haih ah a cae haih; Zedekiah mah Jeremiah khaeah, lok maeto kang dueng han; ka hmaa ah tidoeh angphat hmah, tiah a naa.
Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said to Jeremiah, "I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me."
15 Jeremaih mah Zedekiah khaeah, Lok kang thuih nahaeloe, kai hum ai ah na om tang tih maw? Poekhaih kang paek cadoeh, ka lok na tahngai tang tih maw? tiah a naa.
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me."
16 Toe Zedekiah mah tamquta hoi Jeremiah khaeah lokkamhaih to a sak; ka hinghaih paekkung, Angraeng loe hing pongah, kang hum mak ai, na hinghaih pakrong hae kaminawk ban ah doeh kang paek mak ai, tiah a naa.
So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, "As the LORD lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life."
17 To naah Jeremiah mah Zedekiah khaeah, Angraeng, misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah hae tiah thuih; Babylon siangpahrang ih angraengnawk khaeah nang aap nahaeloe, na hinghaih pathlung ueloe, hae vangpui doeh hmai hoiah thlaek mak ai; nangmah hoi na imthung takohnawk doeh hing o tih.
Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "Thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: 'If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's officers, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house.
18 Toe Babylon siangpahrang ih angraengnawk khaeah nang aap ai nahaeloe, hae vangpui hae Khaldian kaminawk ban ah paek ueloe, nihcae mah hmai hoiah thlaek o tih; nang doeh nihcae ban thung hoi na loih mak ai, tiah thuih, tiah a naa.
But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's officers, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.'"
19 Zedekiah siangpahrang mah Jeremiah khaeah, Khaldian kaminawk khaeah kacaeh Judah kaminawk to ka zit, Babylon kaminawk mah kai hae nihcae ban ah paek ueloe, nihcae mah na pacaekthlaek tih, tiah a naa.
Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me."
20 Jeremiah mah, Nihcae mah to kaminawk khaeah na paek o mak ai. Tahmenhaih hoiah kang thuih ih Angraeng ih lok hae tahngai ah; to tiah nahaeloe nang han hoih ueloe, na hinghaih to pathlung tih.
But Jeremiah said, "They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the voice of the LORD, in that which I speak to you: so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live.
21 Toe nihcae khae angpaek hanah nang maak nahaeloe, Angraeng mah hae tiah kai khaeah lok amtuengsak boeh;
But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:
22 khenah, Judah siangpahrang im ah caehtaak ih nongpatanawk to Babylon siangpahrang angraengnawk hmaa ah hoi o boih tih, to naah nongpatanawk mah, Nam puinawk mah ang zoek moe, nang ang caeh o taak boeh; tangnong thungah nang tang caeng boeh pongah, nam puinawk mah angqoi o taak boeh, tiah na thui o tih.
look, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's officers, and those women shall say, 'Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.'
23 Na zunawk hoi na caanawk to Babylon kaminawk hmaa ah hoi o boih tih; nihcae ban thung hoiah na loih o mak ai; Babylon siangpahrang mah na naeh tih; hae vangpui doeh hmai hoiah thlaeksak tih, tiah a naa.
They shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire."
24 To naah Zedekiah mah Jeremiah khaeah, Hae loknawk hae mi doeh panoeksak hmah, to tiah nahaeloe na dueh mak ai.
Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die.
25 Kai hoiah lok aram, tiah ukkung angraengnawk mah panoek o pongah nang khaeah angzoh o moe, siangpahrang khaeah tih lok maw na thuih moe, siangpahrang mah tih lok maw ang thuih, angphak hmah, nang phat nahaeloe kang hum han, tiah na naa o nahaeloe,
But if the officials hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, 'Declare to us now what you have said to the king; do not hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you':
26 nihcae khaeah, Duek han ih Jonathan im ah na caehsak let hmah, to ah ka dueh moeng tih, tiah tahmenhaih ni ka hnik, tiah thui ah, tiah a naa.
then you shall tell them, 'I presented my petition before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.'"
27 Ukkung angraengnawk boih Jeremiah khaeah caeh o moe, anih to lokdueng o: toe siangpahrang mah thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah Jeremiah mah nihcae khaeah thuih pae. Siangpahrang hoiah lokthuih hoi ih lok to mi mah doeh thaih ai pongah, nihcae mah anih khaeah lokdueng o let ai boeh.
Then all the officials came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
28 Jeremiah loe Jerusalem lakhaih ni pha ai karoek to thongim thungah oh.
So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
