< Jeremiah 35 >
1 Judah siangpahrang Josiah capa Jehoiakim siangpahrang ah oh naah, Jeremiah khaeah Angraeng ih lok to angzoh,
[Several years earlier, ] when Jehoiakim was the King of Judah, Yahweh gave me this message:
2 Rekab acaeng imthung takoh khaeah caeh ah loe, nihcae to Angraeng im athung maeto ah angzoh o hanah pacae ah, nihcae mah naek o hanah misurtui to paek ah, tiah ang naa.
“Go to the place where families of the Rechab clan live. Invite them to my temple. [When they arrive, ] take them into one of the inside rooms and offer them [some] wine.”
3 To pongah Habaziniah capa Jeremiah, Jeremiah capa Jaazaniah, anih ih nawkamyanawk, a capanawk boih hoi Rekab ih imthung takoh kaminawk to ka kawk boih moe,
So I went to see Jaazaniah and all his brothers and sons who represented the Rechab clan. Jaazaniah was the son of [another man named] Jeremiah and grandson of Habazziniah.
4 Angraeng ih im athung, Sithaw kami Igdaliah capa, Hanan capanawk ih imkhaan thungah ka caeh haih; to imkhaan loe thok toep kami, Shallum capa Maaseiah imkhaan ranui ah kaom, toksah kami angraengnawk ohhaih imkhaan taeng ah oh;
I took them to the temple, [and we went] into the room where the sons of Igdaliah’s son Hanan, who was a prophet, stayed. That room was next to the room that was used by the men who were in charge of the entrances to the temple. It was above the room that belonged to Maaseiah, who was the temple gatekeeper and the son of Shallum.
5 Rekab acaeng capanawk imthung takoh kaminawk hmaa ah, misurtui hoi kakoi laom hoi boengloengnawk to ka patoem pae moe, misurtui hae nae oh, tiah ka naa.
I set jugs of wine in front of them and urged them to drink some,
6 Toe nihcae mah, kaicae loe misurtui ka nae o ai; Rekab capa kaicae ampa Jonadab mah, Nangmacae hoi na caanawk khoek to misurtui roe nae o hmah, tiah lok ang thuih;
but they refused. They said, “We do not drink wine, because our ancestor Jehonadab, the son of Rechab, commanded us, saying ‘You and your descendants must never drink wine.
And you must not build houses or plant vineyards or [other] crops. Instead, you must always live in tents. If you obey those commands, you all will live for many years in this land.’
8 To pongah kaicae hoi ka zunawk, ka capanawk, ka canunawk boih loe kaimacae ampa Rekab ih capa Jonadab mah thuih ih lok to ka tahngai o;
[So] we have obeyed him in all those matters. We have never drunk wine. Our wives and our sons and our daughters [have also never drunk wine].
9 ohhaih im doeh ka sah o mak ai, misur takha doeh ka sah o mak ai; lawk doeh ka sah o mak ai ueloe, aanmu doeh ka patii o mak ai;
We have not built houses or planted vineyards or [other] crops or [worked in] fields.
10 kahni im ah ka oh o, kaicae ampa Jonadab mah thuih ih lok ka tahngai o moe, ka pazui o boeh:
We have lived in tents. We have obeyed all the commands that Jehonadab, our ancestor, gave us.
11 toe Babylon siangpahrang Nebuchadnezzar hae prae ah angzoh naah loe, Khaldian misatuh kaminawk hoi Syria misatuh kaminawk loe zit thoh pongah, Angzo oh, Jerusalem ah caeh o si, tiah ka thuih o moe, Jerusalem ah ka oh o, tiah pathim pae o.
But when [the army of] King Nebuchadnezzar attacked this country, we said, ‘We must go to Jerusalem to escape from the armies of Babylonia and Syria.’ So, [we came] to Jerusalem and we are living [here].”
12 To naah Angraeng ih lok to Jeremiah khaeah angzoh;
Then Yahweh gave this message to me: “This is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom the Israeli [people say that they belong to], say:
13 misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Caeh ah loe, Judah hoi Jerusalem ih kaminawk khaeah, Ka lok na tahngai o hanah, thuitaekhaih na talawk o mak ai maw? tiah a thuih, tiah thui paeh.
'Go and tell this to the people in Jerusalem and in [other places in] Judah: “Why do you not [RHQ] listen to me or learn something about how to obey me?
14 Rekab capa Jonadab mah a caanawk khaeah misurtui naek han ai ah lok thuih pae, vaihi khoek to nihcae mah anih ih lok to tahngaih pae o; ampa mah thuih ih lok tahngaih o pongah, vaihni ni khoek to misurtui nae o ai; khawnthaw ah kang thawk moe, lok kang thuih o, toe ka lok na tahngai o ai.
The Rechab clan still do not drink wine, because their ancestor Jehonadab told them to not do that. [In contrast], I have spoken to you many times, but you refuse to obey me.
15 Khawnthaw ah kang thawk moe, ka tamna tahmaanawk to kang patoeh, nihcae mah, Na caeh o haih kahoih ai loklamnawk hoiah amlaem oh, na sak o ih hmuennawk to pakhraih oh, a tok sak pae hanah kalah sithawnawk hnukah bang o hmah, to tiah nahaeloe nam panawk khaeah ka paek ih prae thungah kho na sah o tih, tiah ang naa o; toe naa na patueng o ai moe, lok doeh na tahngai o ai.
Many times I sent prophets to you. They told you, 'Turn away from your wicked behavior, and do things that you should do. Stop worshiping other gods, in order that you will be able to live [peacefully] in this land that I gave to you and your ancestors.' But you would not pay attention to what I said or obey me.
16 Rekab capa Jonadab ih caanawk loe ampa mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah a sak o, toe hae ih kaminawk loe ka lok to tahngai o ai, tiah thuih.
The descendants of Jehonadab have obeyed their ancestor, but you have refused to pay attention to what I told you.
17 To pongah misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Khenah, Judah hoi Jerusalem ah kaom kaminawk boih nuiah ka thuih ih kasae amrohaih to ka phaksak han; nihcae khaeah lok ka thuih pae boeh, toe tahngai o ai; nihcae to ka kawk, toe na pathim o ai, tiah a naa.
Therefore, this is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom you Israeli people [say you belong to], say: 'You have refused to listen to me and you did not answer when I called you. Therefore, I will cause the people in Jerusalem and [other places in] Judah to experience all the disasters that I said that I would cause to happen.'” '”
18 To pacoengah Jeremiah mah Recab imthung takoh khaeah, misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Nangcae loe nam pa Jonadab mah thuih ih lok to na tahngaih o, ang thuitaekhaih loknawk to na pakuem o boih moe, a thuih ih loknawk to na pazui o boih, tiah a naa.
Then I turned to the Rechab clan and said, “This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [say we belong to], says: ‘You have obeyed what your ancestor Jehonadab told you. You have obeyed all his instructions.
19 To pongah misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Rekab capa Jonadab ih acaeng loe boeng ai ah ka hmaa ah toksak han angdoe o tih, tiah a thuih.
Therefore, this is what I say: “There will always be descendants of Jehonadab who will do work for me.”’”
