< Jeremiah 29 >

1 Hae ca loe tahmaa Jeremiah mah, misong ah kalaem kaminawk thung ih kanghmat kacoehtanawk, qaimanawk, tahmaanawk hoi Nebuchadnezzar mah Jerusalem hoi Babylon ah misong ah hoih ih kaminawk boih khaeah, Jerusalem hoi pat ih ca ah oh;
This is the text of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets, and all the others Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
2 (hae loe Jekoniah siangpahrang hoi siangpahrang zu, tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk, Judah hoi Jerusalem ih ukkung angraengnawk, thing tok sah kop kaminawk, sum daengh kop kaminawk, Jerusalem hoi tacawt pacoengah pat pae ih ca ah oh; )
(This was after King Jeconiah, the queen mother, the court officials, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the metalsmiths had been exiled from Jerusalem.)
3 to ca loe Judah siangpahrang Zedekiah mah, Babylon ah Nebuchadnezzar siangpahrang khaeah patoeh ih, Shaphan capa Elashah hoi Hilkiah capa Gemariah khaeah ka paek pae,
The letter was entrusted to Elasah son of Shaphan and Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It stated:
4 to ca thungah, misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Jerusalem hoi Babylon ah misong ah ka caehsak ih, misong ah kalaem kaminawk boih hanah hae tiah ka tarik;
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles who were carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 imnawk to sah oh loe, to ah om oh; takhanawk to sah oh loe, thingthai to caa oh;
“Build houses and settle down. Plant gardens and eat their produce.
6 Zu to la oh loe, capanawk hoi canunawk to sah oh; capanawk hoi canunawk to sak hanah, na canunawk sava sah o sak ah loe, na capnawk to zu la o sak ah; to tiah nang pung o tahang tih, na tamsi o mak ai.
Take wives and have sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Multiply there; do not decrease.
7 Nangcae misong ah kang caehsak ih vangpui misa amding thai hanah pakrong oh loe, to vangpui hanah Angraeng khaeah lawkthui pae oh; vangpui misa amding naah ni, nangcae doeh kamong ah na om o tih.
Seek the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you as exiles. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
8 Misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah hae tiah thuih; Nangcae salakah kaom, tahmaanawk hoi hmabang kaom han koi hmuen thui kaminawk mah, thuih ih lok mah na ling o hmah nasoe, nangcae mah na hnuk o toeng hanah, ang thuih o ih amang doeh tahngai o hmah.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Do not be deceived by the prophets and diviners among you, and do not listen to the dreams you elicit from them.
9 Nihcae to ka patoeh ai to mah, nihcae mah ka hmin hoiah amsawnlok to thuih o, tiah Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih.
For they are falsely prophesying to you in My name; I have not sent them, declares the LORD.”
10 Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; Babylon ah saning qui sarihto koep pacoengah, nangcae khaeah kang zoh moe, hae ahmuen ah amlaem let hanah, ka suek ih kahoih lok to ka koepsak han.
For this is what the LORD says: “When Babylon’s seventy years are complete, I will attend to you and confirm My promise to restore you to this place.
11 Nangcae atho zoksak han ih na ai, monghaih paek moe, oephaih hoi hmabang khosak hoihaih paek hanah, nangcae han sak atimhaih ka tawnh, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.
12 To naah kai nang kawk o tih, na caeh o ueloe, kai khaeah lawk na thui o tih; to naah nangcae ih lok kang tahngaih pae han.
Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 Palungthin boih hoi kai nang pakrong o naah, nang hnu o tih.
You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
14 Nangcae mah kai nang hnu o tih, tiah Angraeng mah thuih; misong ah na oh o haih ahmuen hoiah kam laem o sak let han; prae thungah kang haek o ih ahmuen boih hoiah kang tacuu o moe, misong ah kang laemh o sakhaih ahmuen ah kang hoih o let han, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
15 Angraeng mah kaicae hanah Babylon ah tahmaanawk to patoeh boeh, tiah na poek o;
Because you may say, “The LORD has raised up for us prophets in Babylon,”
16 David ih angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu siangpahrang hoi hae vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk boih, nangcae hoi nawnto misong ah caeh ai prae kaminawk kawng to panoek hanah, Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih;
this is what the LORD says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile—
17 misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng mah, Khenah, nihcae nuiah sumsen, khokhahaih, kasae nathaih to ka patoeh han; kasae parai, caak han kahoih ai thaiduet thaih baktiah, nihcae to ka ohsak han, tiah thuih.
this is what the LORD of Hosts says: “I will send against them sword and famine and plague, and I will make them like rotten figs, so bad they cannot be eaten.
18 Nihcae to sumsen, khokhahaih, kasae nathaih hoiah ka pacaekthlaek han. Ka haek ih prae kaminawk mah pahnuithuihaih, tangoenghaih, padaenghaih hoi kasaethuihaih to tong o tih. Nihcae raihaih tong hanah long nui ih prae kaminawk boih khaeah ka paek han;
I will pursue them with sword and famine and plague. I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth—a curse, a desolation, and an object of scorn and reproach among all the nations to which I banish them.
19 ka thuih ih loknawk to na tahngai o ai, tiah Angraeng mah thuih; khawnthaw ah kang thawk moe, ka tamna tahmaanawk to ka patoeh; toe a thuih ih lok to na tahngai o ai, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
I will do this because they have not listened to My words, declares the LORD, which I sent to them again and again through My servants the prophets. And neither have you exiles listened, declares the LORD.”
20 To pongah Jerusalem hoi Babylon ah ka caehsak ih misongnawk boih, Angraeng ih lok to tahngai oh;
So hear the word of the LORD, all you exiles I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.
21 misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah, Ka hmin hoiah nangcae khaeah amsawnlok kathui, Kolaiah capa Ahab hoi Maaseiah capa Zedekiah loe, khenah, Babylon siangpahrang Nebuchadnezzar ban ah ka paek han; anih mah nangcae mikhnuk ah nihnik to hum tih, tiah thuih.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you lies in My name: “I will deliver them to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will kill them before your very eyes.
22 Babylon ah misong ah kaom Judah kaminawk boih mah, Babylon siangpahrang mah, hmai hoi pakhaem ih Zedekiah hoi Ahab baktih toengah, Angraeng mah nangcae doeh sah nasoe, tiah nihnik kasae tonghaih to khet koi kaom ah patoh o tih.
Because of them, all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon will use this curse: ‘May the LORD make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire!’
23 Nihnik loe Israel prae thungah azat thok hmuennawk to a sak hoi, imtaeng kaminawk ih zu to zae hoi haih moe, lokthuih han paek ai to mah, ka hmin hoiah amsawnlok to a thuih hoi; to hmuen to ka panoek moe, hnukungah ka oh, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
For they have committed an outrage in Israel by committing adultery with the wives of their neighbors and speaking lies in My name, which I did not command them to do. I am He who knows, and I am a witness, declares the LORD.”
24 Nehelam acaeng Shemaiah khaeah doeh thui paeh,
You are to tell Shemaiah the Nehelamite that
25 Jerusalem ah kaom kaminawk boih, qaima Maaseiah capa Zephaniah hoi qaimanawk boih khaeah, ka hmin hoiah ca to pat paeh, tiah misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw mah thuih; to ca thungah:
this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “In your own name you have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests. You said to Zephaniah:
26 Jehoiada duek pacoengah anih zuengah Angraeng im to toep hanah, Angraeng mah nang hae qaima ah ang suek boeh; to pongah angmah koeh ah tahmaa ah kangsah, amthu kaminawk to thlongthuk moe, thongim na pakhrak boih han oh.
‘The LORD has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada, to be the chief officer in the house of the LORD, responsible for any madman who acts like a prophet—you must put him in stocks and neck irons.
27 To tih nahaeloe tipongah nangcae salakah tahmaa ah kangsah, Anathoth ih kami Jeremiah to dan na paek ai loe?
So now, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who poses as a prophet among you?
28 Anih mah misong ah ohhaih saning sawk parai tih; to pongah imnawk to sah oh loe, to ah om oh; takhanawk to sah oh loe, thingthai to caa oh, tiah Babylon ah kaom kaicae khaeah ca ang pat.
For he has sent to us in Babylon, claiming: Since the exile will be lengthy, build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
29 Toe qaima Zephaniah mah to ca to tahmaa Jeremiah khaeah kroek pae.
(Zephaniah the priest, however, had read this letter to Jeremiah the prophet.)
30 To pacoengah Angraeng ih lok to Jeremiah khaeah angzoh,
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
31 Nehelam acaeng Shemaiah kawng pongah Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih, tiah misong ah kaom kaminawk boih khaeah pat paeh; anih to ka patoeh ai to mah, Shemaiah mah nangcae khaeah lok ang thuih moe, amsawnlok to ang tang o sak,
“Send a message telling all the exiles what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you—though I did not send him—and has made you trust in a lie,
32 to pongah Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; Khenah, Nehelam acaeng Shemaiah hoi anih ih caanawk to ka thuitaek han; hae kaminawk salakah anih ih kami mi doeh om mak ai; anih mah Angraeng ih lok to aek hanah patuk pongah, anih loe kaimah ih kaminawk khaeah ka sak pae han ih khosakhoihaih to hnu mak ai, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
this is what the LORD says: ‘I will surely punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He will have no one left among this people, nor will he see the good that I will bring to My people, declares the LORD, for he has preached rebellion against the LORD.’”
