< Jeremiah 2 >

1 Angraeng ih lok kai khaeah angzoh,
MOREOVER the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 caeh ah loe Jerusalem ih kaminawk mah thaih hanah thui ah; Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; lawk ah vat ai ih praezaek ah ka hnukah na bang naah, na qoeng li nathuem ih na hoihhaih, sava sak tangsuek nathuem ih baktiah nang palunghaih to ka pahnet ai.
Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the Lord; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
3 To nathuem ah Israel loe Angraeng hanah ciimcai moe, a qoenghaih thingthai tangsuek ah oh; anih paaeh kaminawk boih loe kami kazae ah oh o; to kaminawk nuiah amrohaih to pha tih, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
Israel was holiness unto the Lord, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the Lord.
4 Aw Jakob imthung takoh, Israel imthung takohnawk boih, Angraeng ih lok hae tahngai oh,
Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
5 Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; Nam panawk mah kai khaeah tih zaehaih maw a hnuk o moe, kai khae hoi kangthla ah a caeh o ving? Nihcae loe tidoeh avang ai krangnawk to patom o pongah, tidoeh avang ai kami ah oh o boeh.
Thus saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
6 Nihcae loe Izip prae hoi zaehoikung, praezaek hoi zaehoikung, praezaek hoi tangqom cing ah kaom prae thung hoiah zaehoikung, khokhahaih hoi duekhaih tahlip thung hoiah zaehoikung, kami caeh vai ai prae hoi kami om vai ai prae thung hoiah zaehoikung, Angraeng loe naa ah maw oh ving boeh? tiah thui o ai.
Neither said they, Where is the Lord that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
7 Thingthai hoi hoihhaih to caak hanah, long kahoih prae ah kang caeh o haih; toe na kun o naah kai ih long to nam hnong o sak, kai ih qawk doeh panuet kaom ah na sak o.
And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
8 Qaimanawk mah Angraeng loe naa ah maw oh? tiah thui o ai; Ka lok patuk kaminawk mah kai to panoek o ai; zaehoikungnawk mah doeh ka lok to aek o; tahmaanawk loe Baal ih ahmin hoiah lokthuih o moe, tidoeh avang ai hmuennawk to patom o.
The priests said not, Where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
9 To pongah lokcaekhaih ahmuen ah kang khingh o han, na caanawk ih caanawk doeh ka khingh han, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the Lord, and with your children’s children will I plead.
10 Kittim tuipui thung ih praenawk to poeng ah loe, khenah: Kedan ah kami to patoeh ah, to baktih hmuen oh vaih boeh maw, tiah kahoihah poek ah loe khen ah.
For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.
11 Prae kalah kaminawk loe Sithaw tang to bok o ai, toe angmacae ih sithaw to pahnawt o vaih maw? Toe kai ih kaminawk loe angmacae lensawkhaih to tidoeh avang ai krang hoiah athlaeng o ving boeh.
Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
12 Aw, vannawk, hae hmuen pongah dawnraihaih, palungboenghaih, tasoehhaih hoiah om oh, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord.
13 Kai ih kaminawk loe zaehaih hnetto a sak o; hinghaih tuipuek, kai hae ang pahnawt o moe, tui tabu, tui angbuem thai ai kakoi tui tabunawk to a sak o.
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
14 Israel loe tamna ah maw oh? Misong ah maw tapen? Tipongah anih loe amro ving loe?
Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?
15 Kaipuinawk mah anih to hang o thuih moe, hnah hroek o thuih; a prae to paro pae o moe, vangpuinawk to hmai hoi thlaek pae o pongah, mi doeh om o ai boeh.
The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.
16 Noph hoi Tahpanhes ih kaminawk mah na lu nui ih angraeng lumuek to amro o sak ving boeh.
Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.
17 Nangcae zaehoikung, Angraeng na Sithaw to na caeh o taak pongah na ai maw, to baktih hmuen to nangmacae nuiah phak?
Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, when he led thee by the way?
18 Tipongah vaihi Shihor ih tui naek hanah Izip loklam ah na caeh o moe, vapui tui naek hanah, Assyria loklam ah na caeh o loe?
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?
19 Nangmacae sakpazaehaih mah nangmacae to thuitaek tih; hnuk nang nawn o haih mah na zoeh o tih; to pongah Angraeng na Sithaw to na pahnawt o moe, kai zithaih tawn ai ah na oh o haih loe, kawkrukmaw set moe, khaa, tito panoek oh, tiah Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih.
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts.
For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.
21 Nang hae atii kahoih koek misurkung ah kang thling; toe ka hmaa ah oep kaom ah kho na sah ai, tipongah tangtang ai misurkung ah nang coeng ving loe?
Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?
For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.
23 Kawbangmaw, Kai loe kam hnong ai, Baal hnukah doeh ka bang ai, tiah na thui thai tih? Azawn ah na caehhaih loklam to khen ah loe, na sak ih hmuen to poek ah; nang loe ahnuk ahma kacawn kaengkuu hrang amno ah na oh boeh.
How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;
24 Apaa koeh naah praezaek ih takhi kahroek laa hrang kasan baktiah na oh boeh; apaa cuukhaih tue phak naah, anih to mi mah maw pakaa pae thai tih? Mi mah doeh anih to angpho qawt ah pakrong mak ai, atue phak naah anih to hnu o tih.
A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.
26 Kamqu loe naeh naah azak baktih toengah, Israel imthung takoh doeh azat o boeh; angmacae, angmacae ih siangpahrangnawk, ukkung angraengnawk, qaimanawk hoi tahmaanawk doeh azathaih tongh o boih boeh.
As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,
Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.
28 To tiah nahaeloe na sak o ih na sithawnawk loe naa ah maw oh o loe? Raihaih na tong o naah nihcae to angzo o nasoe loe, nangcae to pahlong o nasoe khae! Aw Judah, na sithaw loe na vangnawk zetto pop boeh.
But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the Lord.
30 Na caanawk danpaekhaih loe azom pui ni; nihcae loe thuitaekhaih koeh o ai; nangcae ih sumsen loe moi kaek thaih kaipui baktiah, nangmacae ih tahmaanawk to paaeh boih boeh.
In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
31 Aw dung kangtha kaminawk, Angraeng ih lok to poek oh. Kai loe Israel hanah praezaek hoi khoving prae ah ka oh vai maw? Tipongah kai ih kaminawk mah, Kaicae loe angraeng ah ka oh o boeh; nang khaeah kang zo o mak ai boeh, tiah a thuih o loe?
O generation, see ye the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
32 Tangla mah amthoephaih hmuennawk to pahnet vaih maw, to tih ai boeh loe sava sah tangla mah amthoephaih khukbuen to pahnet vaih maw? Toe kai ih kaminawk mah kai ang pahnet o haih ni loe kroeklaek ai boeh.
Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
33 Tipongah tlangai pakrong naah loe palung na ha o loe? To baktih kasae na caeh o haih loklam to kasae nongpatanawk hanah na patuk o.
Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
34 Nang khuk o ih khukbuen nuiah, zaehaih tawn ai kamtang kaminawk humhaih athii to amtueng boeh; tamquta hoiah ka pakrong pongah ka hnuk ih na ai ah, athii loe na sak ih hmuennawk boih nui ah kamnoek ah amtueng boeh.
Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
36 Tipongah na caehhaih loklam to hae tiah na pakhraih loe? Assyria mah tongh ih azathaih baktiah, Izip doeh azathaih tong toeng tih.
Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
37 Ue, lu nuiah na ban to koeng ueloe, to prae hoiah na tacawt tih; na oep ih hmuennawk to Angraeng mah pahnawt sut boeh pongah, khosakhoihaih na tawn mak ai boeh.
Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the Lord hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
