< Jeremiah 14 >
1 Khokhahaih kawng pongah Jeremiah khaeah Angraeng ih lok hae tiah angzoh.
This is the LORD’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
2 Judah loe palungset moe, khongkhanawk doeh angpho o boeh; prae to qah o haih, Jerusalem qahhaih lok loe ranui bangah caeh tahang.
“Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3 Angraengnawk mah a tamnanawk to tuidok hanah patoeh; nihcae loe tuikung ah caeh o, toe tui om ai; tuiduenawk doeh akok ah amlaem o haih let; lu to a khuk o moe, azathaih hoiah oh o sut.
Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4 Prae thungah kho angzo ai boeh pongah, long to akah; lawkphrawk kaminawk doeh azathaih tong o pongah, lu to a khuk o.
Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the ploughmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
5 Ue, tasuk doeh taw ah acaa tapen, toe phroh om ai pongah, acaa to pahnawt sut boeh.
Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6 Taw ih hrangnawk doeh hmuensangnawk ah angdoet o moe, tasuinawk baktiah takhi to hroek o; phroh caak han om ai pongah, mikmaeng o boeh.
The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
7 Aw Angraeng, hnuk amlaem kami ka pop o parai boeh; na koeh ai ih zaehaih to ka sak o moeng boeh pongah, ka zae o haih mah misa ah omsak cadoeh, na hmin hoiah na loisak ah.
Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, LORD; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
8 Aw Israel kaminawk oephaih, raihaih tong naah pahlongkung, tipongah prae thungah angvin baktiah na oh o moe, qumto khue iih hanah kholong caeh angvin baktiah na oh loe?
You hope of Israel, its Saviour in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, LORD, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
10 Angraeng mah hae kaminawk khaeah, Nihcae loe amhet han koeh o, khok to pakaa o ai, to pongah Angraeng mah nihcae to talawk ai; nihcae kasae sakhaih to vaihi poek ueloe, a sak o ih zaehaih baktih toengah lokcaek tih, tiah thuih.
The LORD says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
11 To pacoengah Angraeng mah kai khaeah, Hae kaminawk khosak hoih hanah lawkthui pae hmah.
The LORD said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
12 Buhzah hoi lawkthui o cadoeh, nihcae hanghaih lok to ka tahngai pae mak ai; hmai angbawnhaih hoiah tangqum paek o naah doeh, ka talawk pae mak ai; nihcae to sumsen, khokhahaih hoi kasae nathaih hoiah kam rosak han, tiah a thuih.
When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
13 Toe kai mah, Ah, Angraeng Sithaw, khenah, tahmaanawk mah nihcae khaeah, sumsen hoi raihaih na tong o mak ai, khokhahaih doeh na tong o mak ai; boeng thai ai monghaih to hae ahmuen ah kang paek o han, tiah a thuih pae o bae, tiah ka naa.
Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”
14 To naah Angraeng mah kai khaeah, tahmaanawk loe kai ih ahmin hoiah amsawnlok to thuih o; kai mah nihcae to patoeh ai, lok ka paek ai, lok doeh ka thui pae ai; nihcae loe amsawn hnuksakhaih, taqawk ih ahmin hoiah tahmaahaih to sak o moe, atho om ai hmuen, angmacae poekhaih baktiah ni, alinghaih lok to ang thuih o.
Then the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
15 To pongah Angraeng mah anih ih ahmin hoiah lokthui tahmaanawk kawng pongah hae tiah thuih; Kai mah nihcae to patoeh ai, toe nihcae mah prae thungah sumsen hoi khokhahaih pha mak ai, tiah thuih o; to tahmaanawk loe sumsen hoi khokhahaih hoiah dueh o tih.
Therefore the LORD says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
16 Tahmaanawk mah lokthuih pae ih kaminawk loe sumsen hoi khokhahaih pongah, Jerusalem loklamnawk ah va o sut tih; nihcae ih qok, a zunawk, capanawk hoi canunawk ih qok to aphum hanah kami mi doeh om mak ai; a sak o ih zaehaih hoi katingah nihcae nuiah ka phaksak han.
The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
17 Nihcae khaeah, Kai kaminawk ih canu kacuem tangla loe, kanung parai nganbawh kana to zok o moe, ahuhnawk doeh angkhaeh o boeh pongah, ka mikkhraetui hae khoving khodai, boeng ai ah long nasoe.
“You shall say this word to them: “‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
18 Lawk ah ka caeh naah doeh, sumsen hoi hum ih kaminawk to ka hnuk; vangpui thungah ka kun naah doeh, khokha pongah nganna kaminawk to ka hnuk; ue, tahmaa hoi qaima loe panoek vai ai ih prae ah caeh hoi boeh, tiah thui paeh, tiah ang naa.
If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”
19 Judah to na pahnawt ving boeh maw? Na hinghaih mah Zion to hnukma boeh maw? Kaicae ngatuihaih om ai maw, tipongah patang nang khangsak loe? Monghaih to ka zing o, toe kahoih hmuen roe om ai; ngantuihaih ka zing o naah, raihaih ka hnuk o lat!
Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
20 Aw Angraeng, na nuiah ka zae o boeh moe, ka set o haih hoiah kam panawk ih zaehaih to ka panoek o boeh.
We acknowledge, LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
21 Na hmin pongah, kaicae hae hnuma hmah, na lensawkhaih to ahmin saesak hmah; kaicae hoi na sak ih lokmaihaih to pahnet hmah loe, phrae doeh phrae hmah.
Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
22 Gentel kaminawk mah bok o ih tidoeh avang ai krangnawk thungah kho angzosak thaih krang oh o maw? To tih ai boeh loe vannawk mah kho angzoh o sak thaih maw? Kho angzosak thaih loe, Aw Angraeng, kaicae ih Sithaw, Nang na ai maw? To pongah nang to kang zing o han; hae hmuennawk boih loe nangmah sak ih hmuen ah ni oh o.
Are there any amongst the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, the LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.
