Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
2 Aicae boih paroeai hmuen sakpazaehaih a tawnh o. Lokthuih pazae ai kami loe, kakoep kami ah oh moe, takpum boih angsum thaih kami ah oh.
For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
3 Khenah, lok tahngaih thai hanah, aicae mah hrang ih tahmawh to a moem pae o; to naah ni hrang ih takpum boih paqoi thaih.
Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.
4 Palongpuinawk ho khen oh, len o parai e, takhi kaham mah koeh baktiah hmuh thaih, toe palongpui mongkung mah loe amonghaih cung tetta hoiah ni a caeh koehhaih baktiah paqoi.
Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
5 To baktih toengah palai doeh takpum thungah kaom hmuen tetta ah ni oh, toe amoek parai. Khenah, tetta hmai mah taw to kangh boih!
So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!
6 Palai loe hmai ah oh moe, long zaehaih ah oh: to baktih toengah palai loe aicae takpum thungah oh moe, takpum to amhnongsak boih, takpum hmai kangsak hanah, hell hmai thungah kraksak. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
7 Moi kasannawk, tavaanawk, pahuinawk hoi tuipui thungah kaom moinawk boih mongsak thaih:
For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;
8 toe palai loe mi kawbaktih mah doeh pazawk thai ai; thuitaek thai ai ih kasae ah oh moe, duekhaih kasoe ah oh.
but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Aicae mah ampa Sithaw to palai hoiah pakoeh moe, Sithaw hoi kanghmong ah sak ih kaminawk doeh aicae mah palai hoiah pasoih o.
With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God.
10 Pakha maeto thung hoiah tahamhoihhaih hoi tangoenghaih to tacawt. Nawkamyanawk, hae tiah oh han om ai.
Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
11 Tuibap maeto thung hoiah tui kaluep hoi tui kakhaa tacawt thai maw?
Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
12 Nawkamyanawk, thaiduetkung mah Olive thaih athaih thai maw? To tih ai boeh loe misurkung mah thaiduet thaih athaih thai maw? Tuibap maeto thung hoiah tui kaluep hoi tui kakhrum tacawt thai ai.
Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.
13 Nangcae thungah palungha kami hoi panoekhaih tawn kami oh maw? Om nahaeloe palunghahaih tuinom hoiah tacawt kahoih a toksakhaih to amtuengsak nasoe.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
14 Toe na palung thungah kasae uthaih maw, misa angcoeng koehhaih maw om nahaeloe, amoek o hmah loe, loktang lok aek hanah lok amlai o hmah.
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.
15 To baktih palunghahaih loe ranui bang hoiah angzo ai, long hoiah angzo palunghahaih, taksa koehhaih hoiah angzo palunghahaih, taqawk khae hoiah angzo palunghahaih ah ni oh.
This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
16 Uthaih hoi misa angcoenghaih kaom ahmuen ah loe, khosak anghmanghaih hoi congca kasae sakhaih to oh.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
17 Toe ranui bang hoi angzo palunghahaih loe, hmaloe koekah ciimcai moe, angdaehhaih, poeknaemhaih, kami tlim ah khosakhaih, palungnathaih hoiah koi pacoengah, athaih kahoih to athaih, mikhmai khethaih om ai, angsak cophaih doeh om ai.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 Angdaehhaih sah kaminawk loe toenghaih thingthai atii to monghaih hoiah haeh o.
Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
