< Isaiah 37 >

1 Hezekiah siangpahrang mah to lok to thaih naah, angmah ih kahni to asih moe, buri kahni to angkhuk pacoengah, Angraeng im thungah a caeh.
It came about that when King Hezekiah heard their report, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh.
2 Siangpahrang im khenzawnkung Eliakim, ca tarik kami Shebna hoi kacoehta qaimanawk doeh kazii to angzaengsak moe, Amoz capa tahmaa Isaiah khaeah patoeh.
He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, all covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah son of Amoz, the prophet.
3 Nihcae mah anih khaeah, Hezekiah mah hae tiah thuih; Vaihni loe raihaih ni, thuitaekhaih ni, ahminsethaih niah oh; nawkta tapenhaih atue to phak boeh, toe nawkta tapen han thacak ai baktiah oh.
They said to him, “Hezekiah says, 'This day is a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace, like when a child is ready to be born, but the mother has no strength to give birth to her child.
4 Kahing Sithaw to kasae thuih hanah, Assyria siangpahrang mah a tamna misatuh angraeng Rabshakeh to patoeh boeh, anih mah thuih ih lok to na Angraeng Sithaw mah thaih nasoe, na Angraeng Sithaw mah thaih ih lok baktih toengah danpaek tih hmang; to pongah kanghmat kahing kaminawk hanah lawkthui oh, tiah a thuih, tiah a naa o.
It may be Yahweh your God will hear the words of the chief commander, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Now lift up your prayer for the remnant that is still here.'”
5 Hezekiah ih tamnanawk loe Isaiah khaeah caeh o.
So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah,
6 Isaiah mah nihcae khaeah, Nangmacae angraeng khaeah thui pae oh, Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; Assyria siangpahrang ih tamnanawk mah kai kasae ang thuih o, toe nihcae ih lok pongah zithaih tawn o hmah.
and Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master: 'Yahweh says, “Do not be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have insulted me.
7 Khenah, a nuiah poek amkhraihaih palungthin to ka patoeh han, to naah anih mah tamthang to thaih ueloe, a prae ah amlaem ving tih; anih to angmah prae ah sumsen hoi ka dueksak han, tiah a thuih, tiah na angraeng khaeah thui pae oh, tiah a naa.
Look, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear a certain report and go back to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”'”
8 Assyrian siangpahrang loe Lakhis hoiah amlaem moe, Libnah vangpui to a tuk li, tiah Rabshakeh mah thaih naah, to ahmuen ah a caeh.
Then the chief commander returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had gone away from Lachish.
9 To naah Ethiopia siangpahrang Tirhakah mah Assyria siangpahrang Sennakharib to tuk hanah amsak boeh, tiah a thaih. Anih mah to lok to thaih naah, Hezekiah khaeah laicaehnawk to patoeh moe,
Then Sennacherib heard that Tirhakah king of Cush and Egypt had mobilized to fight against him, so he sent messengers again to Hezekiah with a message:
10 Judah siangpahrang Hezekiah khaeah hae tiah thui pae oh; Jerusalem loe Assyria siangphrang ban ah paek mak ai, tiah na oep o ih na Sithaw mah, na ling o hmah nasoe.
“Say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, 'Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
11 Khenah, Assyria siangpahrangnawk mah praenawk boih to tuk moe, phraek boih boeh, tiah na thaih o boeh; nang loe na loih tih maw?
See, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them completely. So will you be rescued?
12 Kam panawk mah pazawk tangcae, Gozan acaeng, Haran acaeng, Rezeph acaeng hoi Telassar ah kaom Eden acaengnawk loe prae kaminawk ih sithaw mah pahlong o maw?
Have the gods of the nations rescued them, the nations that my fathers destroyed: Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden in Tel Assar?
13 Hamath siangpahrang, Arpad siangpahrang, Sepharvaim vangpui, Hena vangpui, Ivah vangpui uk siangpahrangnawk loe naa ah maw oh o boeh? tiah a thuih pae.
Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the cities of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?'”
14 Hezekiah mah laicaehnawk khae ih ca to lak moe kroek; to pacoengah Angraeng im ah caeh tahang moe, to ca to Angraeng hmaa ah a khramh.
Hezekiah received this letter from hand of the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the house of Yahweh and spread it before him.
15 Hezekiah mah Angraeng khaeah hae tiah lawkthuih;
Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh:
16 Cherubimnawk salakah anghnu, Aw misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, Israel Sithaw, long siangpahrang ukhaih praenawk boih ukkung, Sithaw loe, nang khue ni; long hoi van doeh nangmah ni na sak.
“Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, you who sit above the cherubim, you are God alone over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
17 Aw Angraeng, na naa to patueng ah loe tahngai ah; Aw Angraeng, na mik to padai ah loe, khenah; Sennakherip mah thuih ih kahing Sithaw kasaethuihaih loknawk boih to tahngai ah.
Turn your ear, Yahweh, and listen. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see, and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God.
18 Aw Angraeng, Assyria siangpahrangnawk mah hae kaminawk hoi praenawk to amrosak boih moe,
It is true, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the nations and their lands.
19 nihcae ih sithawnawk to hmai thungah vah pae o; to sithawnawk loe Sithaw tangtang na ai ni, thing hoiah maw, thlung hoiah maw, kami mah sak cop ih hmuen ah oh o pongah, nihcae mah paro pae o boeh.
They have put their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men's hands, just wood and stone. So the Assyrians have destroyed them.
20 Aw Angraeng kaicae ih Sithaw, Nang khue ni, Angraeng Sithaw, tiah long nui ih prae kaminawk boih mah panoek o thai hanah, vaihi anih ban thung hoiah na pahlong ah, tiah lawk a thuih.
So now, Yahweh our God, save us from his power, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh alone.”
21 To pacoengah Amoz capa Isaiah mah Hezekiah khaeah laicaeh patoeh; Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah hae tiah thuih; Assyria siangpahrang Sennakherip kawng pongah kai khaeah lawk nang thuih pongah,
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says, 'Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,
22 anih kawng pongah Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; Zion canu kacuem tangla mah nang to ang patoek moe, ang pahnui thuih boeh; Jerusalem canu mah nang hanah lu ang haek thuih boeh.
this is the word that Yahweh has spoken about him: “The virgin daughter of Zion despises you and laughs you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head at you.
23 Minawk kasae kathui, patoekhaih tawn kami nang loe mi aa? Mi maw na hang thuih moe, amoekhaih mik na padai thuih? Ciimcai Israel Sithaw ni nam oek thuih boeh to!
Whom have you defied and insulted? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel.
24 Na tamnanawk mah Angraeng to khet patoek o moe, pop parai hrang lakoknawk hoiah maesang nuiah ka dawh moe, Lebanon mae nuiah doeh ka dawh boeh; kasang koek Sidar thing hoi hmaica thing doeh ka pakhruk han, kasang koek ahmuen, thingthai kapop taw thungah ka kun han.
By your servants you have defied the Lord and have said, 'With the multitude of my chariots I have gone up to the heights of the mountains, to the highest elevations of Lebanon. I will cut down its tall cedars and choice cypress trees there, and I will enter into its farthest high places, its most fruitful forest.
25 Tui to takaeh moe, ka naek boeh; ka khokpadae hoiah Izip prae ih vapui tuinawk to ka kangsak boih boeh, tiah na thuih.
I have dug wells and drunk water; I dried up all the rivers of Egypt under the soles of my feet.'
Have you not heard how I determined it long ago and worked it out in ancient times? Now I am bringing it to pass. You are here to reduce impregnable cities into heaps of ruins.
27 To pongah vangpui kaminawk loe thazok o boeh, poek anghmang o moe, palungboeng o sut boeh; nihcae loe lawk ih phroh baktih, qam kahing baktih, imphu nui ih phroh kahing baktih, qoeng khuek ai ah kazaem cang baktiah oh o.
Their inhabitants, of little strength, are shattered and ashamed. They are plants in the field, green grass, the grass on the roof or in the field, before the east wind.
28 Toe na ohhaih ahmuen, na caehhaih hoi nang zohhaih, kai palung nang phui thuihaih doeh ka panoek.
But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
29 Kai palung nang phui thuihaih hoi misa ah nang suekhaih to ka thaih pongah, na hnah ah cakoih, na pahni ah sumboeng to kang kaeksak moe, nang zohhaih loklam hoiah kam laemsak let han.
Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose, and my bit in your mouth; I will turn you back the way you came.”
30 Aw Hezekiah, nang han angmathaih ah kaom hmuen loe hae tiah oh; vaining saning loe angmah koeh ah kamprawk thingthai qumponawk to na caa tih, amla ah doeh to thung hoiah tacawt patoeng thingthai to na caa vop tih; saning thumto naah loe cangti to tuh oh loe, aat oh, misur takhanawk to sah oh loe, athainawk to caa oh.
This will be the sign for you: This year you will eat what grows wild, and in the second year what grows from that. But in the third year you must plant and harvest, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
31 Misa thung hoi kaloih, kanghmat Judah imthung takohnawk loe atlim ah tangzun to sah o ueloe, anui ah athaih tacawt let tih.
The remnant of the house of Judah that survives will again take root and bear fruit.
32 Kanghmat kaminawk loe Jerusalem hoiah angzo o tih, kaloih kaminawk doeh Zion mae hoiah angzo o tih; misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng thacakhaih mah to hmuen to acungsak tih.
For from Jerusalem a remnant will come out; from Mount Zion survivors will come. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.'”
33 To pongah Assyria siangpahrang kawng pongah Angraeng mah hae tiah thuih; anih loe hae vangpui thungah akun mak ai, kalii doeh kaat mak ai; vangpui hmaa ah pakaahaih hmuen hoiah angzo mak ai, vangpui takuihaih long khaw doeh takae mak ai.
Therefore Yahweh says this about the king of Assyria: “He will not come into this city and he will not shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build up a siege ramp against it.
34 Anih loe angmah angzohhaih loklam hoiah amlaem let tih; vangpui thungah akun mak ai, tiah Angraeng mah thuih.
The way by which he came will be the same way he will leave; he will not enter this city—this is Yahweh's declaration.
35 Kaimah hoi ka tamna David pongah, hae vangpui hae pakaa moe, ka pahlong han, tiah thuih, tiah a naa.
For I will defend this city and rescue it, for my own sake and for David my servant's sake.”
36 To pacoengah Angraeng ih vankami loe Assyria kaminawk ataihaih ahmuen ah caeh moe, kami sang, cumvai qui tazet, sang pangato a hum pae; akhawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk o naah loe, khenah, kami qok cing ah oh.
Then the angel of Yahweh went out and attacked the camp of the Assyrians, putting to death 185,000 soldiers. When the men arose early in the morning, dead bodies lay everywhere.
37 To pongah Assyria siangpahrang Sennakherip loe to ahmuen hoiah tacawt moe, hnuk amlaem ving pacoengah, Nineveh vangpui ah khosak.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria left Israel and went home and stayed in Nineveh.
38 To pacoengah angmah ih tempul thungah a sithaw Nisrok to a bok li naah, a caa Adrammelek hoi Sharezer mah sumsen hoiah takroek hoi moe, Armenia prae ah cawn hoi taak ving; to pacoengah a capa Esarhaddon to anih zuengah siangpahrang ah oh.
Later, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisrok his god, his sons Adrammelek and Sharezer killed him with the sword. Then they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.
