< Isaiah 36 >
1 Hezekiah siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning hathlai palito naah, Assyria siangpahrang Sennakharib to angzoh moe, kacakah sak ih misa pakaahaih Judah vangpuinawk to lak pae boih.
And it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib the king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and seized on them.
2 Assyria siangpahrang mah Rashakeh to thacak misatuh kaminawk hoi nawnto, Lakish hoiah Jerusalem ah siangpahrang Hezekiah khaeah patoeh. Misatuh angraeng loe khukbuen pasuk kami ih lawk bangah caehhaih loklam, aluek bang ih tuili ah anghak.
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a strong army. And he halted by the aqueduct of the upper pool on the highway of the washer's field.
3 To naah Hilkiah capa, siangpahrang im khenzawnkung Eliakim, ca tarik kami Shebna, Asaph capa, ca pakuem kami, Joah cae loe anih khaeah caeh o.
Then came forth unto him Elyakim, the son of Chilkiyahu, who was superintendent over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoach the son of Assaph, the recorder.
4 Misatuh angraeng Rashakeh mah nihcae khaeah, lensawk siangpahrang, Assyria siangpahrang mah, Tipongah nangmah hoi nangmah to tih khoek to nang oep loe? tiah a thuih, tiah Hezekiah khaeah thui paeh, tiah ang naa.
And Rabshakeh said unto them, —Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus hath said the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherewith thou hast trusted?
5 Nang loe misatuk kophaih hoi thacak misatuh kaminawk to ka tawnh mang, tiah na thuih ti; toe amsawnlok ni na thuih; mi ih tha oephaih hoiah maw kai hae nang tuk han?
I have said, but it was only a word uttered with the lips, [I have] counsel and strength for the war. Now, on whom didst thou trust, that thou rebelledst against me?
6 Khenah, nang loe angkhaek sakrungkung baktiah kaom, Izip prae ni nang oep haih; sakrungkung baktiah kaom akung nuiah amha kami loe angkhaek sakrungkung mah ban to thun pae ueloe, ahmaa caa tih; Izip siangpahrang Faro mah doeh anih khaeah amha kaminawk to to tiah sah tih.
Behold, thou trustedst on yon cracked reed-staff, on Egypt; which, if a man lean on it, will enter into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh the king of Egypt to all that trust on him.
7 Toe nangcae mah, Kaicae loe kaimacae ih Angraeng Sithaw ni ka oep o, tiah na thuih o; Hezekiah mah hmuensang hoi hmaicamnawk to phraek boih moe, Judah hoi Jerusalem kaminawk khaeah, Hae ih hmaicam hmaa ah khue ni Sithaw na bok o han, tiah a thuih na ai maw?
But if thou shouldst say to me, In the Lord our God have we trusted: is he not the one whose high-places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, when he said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar shall ye prostrate yourselves?
8 To pongah angzo oh loe, ka angraeng Assyria siangpahrang hoi palungduehaih to sah oh; hrang angthueng thaih kami na tawnh o nahaeloe, nihcae kakhawt ah hrang sang hnetto kang paek o han!
And now I pray thee, enter into a contest with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
9 Ka angraeng ih tamnanawk thungah kathoeng koek misatuh angraeng kai mataeng doeh nang pazawk o ai nahaeloe, kawbangmaw Izip kaminawk ih hrang lakoknawk hoi hrang angthueng kaminawk to nang oep o haih?
How then wilt thou turn back the face of a single chieftain of the least of my masters' servants, while thou hast put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
10 Angraeng asaenghaih om ai nahaeloe hae prae amrosak hanah kang zo tih maw? Caeh moe, to prae to paro hanah, Angraeng mah ang thuih, tiah a naa.
And now am I come up without the Lord ['s will] against this land to destroy it? The Lord hath said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
11 To naah Eliakim, Shebna hoi Joah mah misatuh angraeng Rabshakeh khaeah, Tahmenhaih hoi na tamnanawk loe Syria lok ka thaih kop o pongah, Syria lok hoiah mah na thui ah; sipae nuiah kaom kaminawk mah thaih o kop hanah, Hebru lok hoiah thui hmah, tiah a naa o.
Then said Elyakim and Shebna and Yoach unto Rabshakeh, Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jewish language, before the ears of the people that are on the wall.
12 Toe misatuh angraeang Rabshakeh mah, Nangcae angraeng hoi nangcae khae khue lokthuih hanah ka angraeng mah ang patoeh, tiah na poek o maw? Sipae nuiah anghnu kaminawk khaeah doeh lokthuih hanah na patoeh ai maw? Nihcae loe nangcae baktiah angmacae ih aek to caa o ueloe, angmacae ih tamzun tui to nae o tih, tiah pathim pae.
But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master then sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? is it not rather to the men who sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own excrements, and drink their own urine with you?
13 To naah Rabshakeh loe angdoet tahang moe, Hebru lok hoiah, lensawk siangpahrang, Assyria siangpahrang ih lok hae tahngai oh, tiah a hangh.
Then stood Rabshakeh up, and called out in a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 Siangpahrang mah hae tiah thuih; Hezekiah mah na ling o hmah nasoe; nangcae to anih mah loisak thai mak ai!
Thus hath said the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you;
15 Angraeng mah aicae pahlong tih; hae vangpui hae Assyria siangpahrang ban ah paek mak ai, tiah Hezekiah mah thuih pongah Sithaw to tang o hmah.
Neither let Hezekiah induce you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given up into the hand of the king of Assyria.
16 Hezekiah ih lok to tahngai o hmah; Assyria siangpahrang mah hae tiah thuih; Kai hoi angdaehhaih sah oh loe, kai khaeah angzo oh; to tiah nahaeloe kami boih mah angmah ih misurthaih hoi thaiduet thaih to caa o ueloe, angmah ih tuikhaw thung ih tui to nae o tih;
Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus hath said the king of Assyria, Make a treaty of peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern;
17 Kang zoh moe, nangcae to nangmacae prae baktiah kaom, cang hoi misurtui ohhaih prae, takaw hoi misur takha ohhaih prae ah kang caeh o haih han.
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18 Acoe oh, to tih ai nahaeloe Hezekiah mah nangcae khaeah, Angraeng mah pahlong tih hmang, tiah na zoek o moeng tih. Prae kaminawk ih sithawnawk mah a prae to Assyria siangpahrang ban thung hoiah loih o sak vai maw?
So that Hezekiah may not mislead you, saying, The Lord will deliver us. Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
19 Hamath hoi Arpad ih sithawnawk loe naa ah maw oh o? Sephavaim ih sithawnawk loe naa ah maw oh o? Nihcae mah Samaria to ka ban thung hoiah loisak thaih maw?
Where are the gods of Chamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvayim? and have they then delivered Samaria out of my hand?
20 Hae prae thung boih ih sithawnawk thungah, kawbaktih sithaw mah maw a prae to ka ban thung hoi pahlong vaih? Kawbangmaw Angraeng mah Jerusalem to ka ban thung hoi pahlong thai tih? tiah a naa.
Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
21 Lok pathim han ai ah lokpaek boeh pongah, Judah kaminawk mah, lok pakha to doeh pathim pae o ai, oh o taak duem.
But they remained silent, and answered him not a word; for it was the king's command, saying, Ye shall not answer him.
22 To naah Hilkiah capa, siangpahrang im ukkung Eliakim, ca tarik kami Shebna hoi ca pakuem kami, Asaph capa Joah cae loe angmacae ih khukbuen to asih o moe, Hezekiah khaeah caeh o pacoengah, misatuh angraeng Rabshakeh mah thuih ih lok to a thuih pae o.
Then came Elyakim the son of Chilkiyahu, that was superintendent over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Yoach the son of Assaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent; and they told him the words of Rabshakeh.
