< Hosea 13 >
1 Ephraim mah lokthuih naah, kaminawk tasoeh o; anih loe Israel ah angmah hoi angmah to amkoeh; toe Baal to a bok pongah anih loe zaehaih tawnh moe, a duek.
When Ephraim spoke, they were feared, for they were the leading tribe in Israel. But when they were guilty of Baal worship, they died.

Now they constantly sin, making for themselves idols from molten metal. All of these idols are skillfully made from silver by their craftsmen. “Offer sacrifices to these idols,” say the people. “Kiss the bull calf idols.”
3 To pongah hae kaminawk loe akhawnbang ah amzam tamai baktih, akhawnbang ah kamzawt dantui baktiah om o ueloe, cang atithaih ahmuen hoiah takhi mah hmuh ih canghii baktih, takoeng ranui hoi tacawt hmaikhue baktiah ni om o tih.
Consequently they will be like the morning mist, like early morning dew, like chaff blowing away from the threshing floor, like smoke from a chimney.
4 Toe kai loe Izip prae hoiah nang zaehoikung, na Angraeng Sithaw ah ka oh, kai ai ah loe Sithaw na panoek o thai mak ai, kai ai ah loe pahlongkung kalah om ai.
Yet I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall know no other gods but me. None can save you except me.
5 Kai mah ni khokha praezaek ah kang khetzawn o.
I looked after you in the wilderness; in that dry desert land it was like pasture to them
6 Kamhah ah buh na caak o naah nam oek o; to pongah nihcae mah kai ang pahnet o.
and they were satisfied. But when they were satisfied they became arrogant, and they forgot me.
7 To pongah nihcae khaeah kaipui baktiah ka oh moe, kaithlaeng baktiah loklam ah ka ngang han.
So I will be like a lion to them, like a leopard I will lie in wait beside the path.

I will be like a mother bear whose cubs have been taken, I will rip out their hearts. I shall devour them like a lion, like a wild beast I will tear them apart.
9 Aw Israel, nang loe nam ro boeh, toe nang abomhaih loe kai khae hoiah ni angzoh.
You have destroyed yourselves, Israel, for your only help is in me.
10 Kai loe nang ih siangpahrang ah ka oh han; na oh o haih vangpui boih pahlong thaih kalah kami oh maw? Siangpahrang hoi ukkung angraeng na paek ah, tiah na hnik o ih lokcaek kaminawk loe naa ah maw oh o boih boeh?
Where then is your king? Let him save you in all your cities! Where are your leaders who demanded a king and princes from me?
11 Palungphui hoiah siangpahrang maeto kang paek o, palung hmai baktih amngaeh naah anih to ka lak ving.
In my anger I give you a king, and in my fury I take one.
12 Ephraim sakpazaehaih loe tapawk moe, a zaehaih to hawk ving boeh.
Ephraim's guilt is packed up; their sin will be eradicated.
13 Nongpata caa oh naah kana panoekhaih to anih nuiah pha tih boeh: anih loe palungha ai capa ah oh; anih loe tapen ai ah nawkta ohhaih ahmuen ah atue kasawk ah oh han om ai.
The pain of childbirth has come to them, trying to give birth to a son who is not “wise” because he is not in the right position when the time comes.
14 Taprong thacakhaih thung hoiah nihcae to ka krang han; nihcae to duekhaih thung hoiah ka loisak han. Aw duekhaih, kai loe nang ih nathaih kasae ah ka oh han! Aw taprong, kai loe nang amrohaih ah ka oh han! Tahmenhaih mik ka tawn mak ai. (Sheol )
I shall redeem them from the power of Sheol; I shall deliver them from death. Where, death, are your plagues? Where, Sheol, is your destruction? Compassion is hidden from my sight. (Sheol )
15 Anih loe nawkamya thungah athaih athai langlacadoeh ka tahmen mak ai, ni angyae bang ih takhi to angzo tih; Angraeng ih takhi to praezaek hoiah song tih. To pacoengah anih ih vacong tui to kang ueloe, tuibap tui doeh kang boih tih. Khit kaom anih ih hmuenmaenawk to paro pae boih tih.
Even though they flourish among the reeds, an east wind will come, a wind from the Lord that rises in the desert will dry up their springs and their wells will fail. It will rob from their treasury everything of value.
16 Angmah ih Sithaw to misa ah sak pongah, Samaria loe pongsut tih: nihcae to sumsen hoiah hum o ueloe, a caanawk to long ah va o tih: zokpomh nongpatanawk to taprawt pae o pat tih.
Samaria will have to bear the consequences of their guilt, because they rebelled against her God. They will be slaughtered by the sword; their children will be dashed to the ground; their pregnant women will be ripped open.
