< Genesis 13 >

1 To pongah Abram loe a zu hoi a tawnh ih hmuennawk boih to sinh moe, Izip prae thung hoiah caeh tahang; Lot doeh anih hoi nawnto caeh.
So Abram and Sarai left Egypt, and they took along all his possessions, and Lot went with them to the Negev [Desert].
2 To naah Abram loe pacah ih moinawk, sum kanglung, suinawk hoiah angraeng parai boeh.
Abram was very rich. He owned a lot of livestock, silver and gold.
3 Aloih bang hoiah Bethel ah caeh, tangsuek nathuem hoi a sak ih kahni im ohhaih Bethel hoi Hai salakah a caeh,
They continued traveling from place to place from the Negev [Desert] toward Bethel [town] to the place between Bethel and Ai where they had previously set up their tents,
4 a sak hmaloe ih hmaicam ohhaih ahmuen to phak naah, to ahmuen ah Abram mah Angraeng ih ahmin to palawk.
and where Abram had made a stone altar and worshiped Yahweh.
5 Abram hoi nawnto kacaeh Lot doeh, tuunawk, maitawnawk hoi kahni imnawk tawnh toeng.
Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks of sheep and goats and herds of cattle, and tents.
6 Nihnik nawnto khosak han long ahmuen mah khawt ai boeh; a tawnh hoi ih hmuennawk pop parai boeh pongah, nawnto om hoi thai ai boeh.
But they had so many animals that they could not all stay in the same area. There was not enough land to provide water and food for all their animals.
7 Abram ih maitaw toep kaminawk hoi Lot ih maitaw khenzawn kaminawk to angzoeh o; to naah Kanaan kaminawk hoi Periz kaminawk loe to prae thungah oh o boeh.
Furthermore, the descendants of Canaan and Perizzi were also living in that area, and the land really belonged to them. And the men who took care of Abram’s animals started quarreling with the men who took care of Lot’s animals.
8 To pongah Abram mah Lot khaeah, Aihnik loe nawkamya ah ni a oh o; nang hoi kai salak, nang ih maitaw toep kami hoi kai ih maitaw khen kami salakah, angzoehhaih om hmah nasoe.
So Abram said to Lot, “Since we are close relatives, it is not good for us two to quarrel, or for the men who take care of your animals to quarrel with the men who take care of my animals.
There is plenty of land for both of us. So we should separate. You can choose whatever part you want [RHQ]. If you want the area over there, I will stay here. If you want the area here, I will go over there.”
10 Lot mah khet naah, Angraeng ih takha baktih, Zoar vangpui ah na caeh naah Izip prae baktih kaom, ahmuen kruekah long kaduk Jordan azawn ah to a hnuk; to tui kahoih azawn loe Angraeng mah phraek ih Sodom hoi Gomorrah vangpui pha ai naah oh.
Lot looked around toward Zoar [town], and saw that there was plenty of water all over the plain near the Jordan [River]. It was like the park/garden in Eden, and like the land in Egypt. [That was before Yahweh destroyed [the cities of] Sodom and Gomorrah which were on that plain.]
11 Lot mah angmah hanah Jordan azawn to qoih moe, ni angyae bangah a caeh; to tiah maeto hoi maeto ampraek hoi.
So Lot chose the land in the plain of the Jordan [River]. He left his uncle, Abram, and moved east.
12 Abram loe Kanaan prae ah oh, Lot loe azawn taengah kaom vangpuinawk ah khosak moe, Sodom vangpui taengah kahni im to a sak.
Abram stayed in the Canaan area, and Lot started to live near the cities in the plain of the Jordan [River], and he set up his tents near Sodom [city].
13 Sodom vangpui ih kaminawk loe set o moe, Angraeng hmaa ah doeh pop parai zaehaih hoiah khosak o.
[You need to know that] people who lived there were extremely wicked.
14 Lot mah anih caehtaak pacoengah, Angraeng mah Abram khaeah, Na ohhaih ahmuen hoi aluek, aloih, ni angyae hoi niduem bang to doeng ah;
After Abram and Lot separated, Yahweh said to Abram, “Look around at this whole area where you are. Look north and south, look east and west.
15 na hnuk ih prae boih nangmah hoi na caanawk khaeah, dungzan khoek to kang paek han.
I will give to you and your descendants all the land that you see; I will give it to you forever.
16 Na caanawk to long ih maiphu zetto kang pungsak han; kami mah maiphu kroek thaih nahaeloe, na caanawk doeh kroek o thai tih.
I will cause your descendants to be as numerous as particles of dust! [It will be easier] to count the particles of dust than it will be to count your descendants [HYP].
17 Angthawk loe, prae to kasawk hoi kalen boenghaih khoek to amkae boih ah; to ahmuen to nang khaeah kang paek han, tiah a naa.
Walk through the land in every direction, because I am going to give it all to you.”
18 To pongah Abram mah kahni im to khok, Hebron ih Mamre azawn ah caeh moe, to ah khosak; to ahmuen ah Angraeng han hmaicam maeto a sak.
So Abram [and his men] took down their tents and moved to Hebron and started to live by the huge trees [at the town] Mamre. He placed a stone altar there to [make sacrifices to] Yahweh.
