< Ezekiel 24 >

1 Saning takawtto, khrah hato haih, ni hato naah Angraeng ih lok kai khaeah angzoh,
Almost nine [after we had been taken to Babylonia], on the tenth day of the tenth month [of that year], Yahweh gave me this message:
2 kami capa, vaihni hae ani hoi akhrah hae tarik ah; Babylon siangpahrang mah hae na ni hoi kamtong Jerusalem vangpui to takui boeh.
“You human, write down what day of the month this is. On this [the army of] King of Babylon has surrounded Jerusalem.
3 Laisaep thaih imthung takoh ah patahhaih lok hoiah thui paeh, nihcae khaeah, Angraeng Sithaw mah, Laom to khoeng ah loe a thungah tui to lawn ah:
Tell those rebellious Israeli people [MTY] [in Babylon] a parable. Say this to them: This is what Yahweh the Lord says: ‘Pour water into the [cooking] pot and put the pot [the fire].
4 ngan kahoih, aphaih hoi palaeng moinawk to la ah loe a thungah suem ah; kahoih ahuh to kakoi ah hnawt ah.
Put into the pot some pieces of [from one of your best sheep]: Put in the leg and shoulder, [which are] the best pieces. [Then] fill [the rest of] the pot with the best bones.
5 Kahoih koek tuu moi to la ah, ahuhnawk to laom tlim ah pacaeng ah, ahuhnawk loe amtet nasoe, tiah thuih paeh, tiah ang naa.
Pile wood on the fire, and cook the bones and the meat in the boiling water.’
6 Angraeng Sithaw mah, Athii kalongsak vangpui, nang loe khosak bing boeh! Moi to maeto pacoeng maeto thoe ah, nang loe sum aek mah caak ih athung bang ciim thai ai laom baktiah ni na oh boeh; taham khethaih phoisa to na nuiah amtim hmah nasoe.
[Do that] because this is what Yahweh the Lord says: ‘Terrible things will happen [Jerusalem]; it is city that is full of murderers [MTY], [a city that is like] [MET] a scorched pot whose black residue inside cannot be removed. Take the pieces [of meat] out of the pot, but do not choose which pieces to take out.
7 Vangpui thungah anih mah athii to longsak, anih loe maiphu hoi aphum hanah athii to long ah krai ai, athii to kamtueng phaeng thlung nuiah ni a kraih;
The blood of the people who were murdered in Jerusalem is still there; they were murdered on the bare rocks, not on the soil, where their blood could be covered.
8 palungphui hoiah lu ka lak han; athii to aphum han ai ah, anih mah palongh ih athii to kamtueng phaeng thlung nuiah ka suek boeh, tiah thuih.
But I am the one who caused the blood of those who were murdered [MTY] to be smeared on the bare rock, where their blood could not be covered; I did that in order [I could see it and] then be angry and get revenge.’
9 To pongah Angraeng Sithaw mah, Athii palong vangpui loe khosak bing! Kalen parai hmai to tik hanah thing to ka tapop han.
Therefore, this is what [I], Yahweh the Lord say: ‘Terrible things will happen to that city that is full of murderers [MTY]! [It will be as though] I also will pile high [the wood in the fire].
10 Thing to tapop ah loe hmaitik ah, hmuihoih thuh ah loe, moi to patet ah, ahuhnawk loe hmai amngaeh o nasoe.
[So], heap on the wood and light the fire! Cook the meat well, and mix some spices with it; cook it until the bones are charred.
11 To pacoengah tidoeh kaom ai laom akok to kamngaeh hmai nuiah khoeng ah, hmai mah laom to amngaeh sak tih, to tiah ni laom thung ih kakhoem tui to amkaw ueloe, sum aek to hmai mah kangh boih tih.
Then set the empty pot on the [of the fire] until the pot becomes [very] hot and the copper glows, with the result that the impurities and the rust will be burned up.
12 Tha na pathok khing cadoeh azom pui ni, kakhoem to krah thai mak ai, hmai mah doeh cingsak thai mak ai.
[It is as though] I tried to get rid of that rust, but I was not able to do it, [not even] by putting that pot in a fire.
13 Jerusalem, nang loe zaehaih hoi amhnoghaih hoiah na koi, kang pasaeh khing boeh, toe na ciim thai ai pongah, na nuiah palung ka phuihaih pha ai karoek to nam hnonghaih to na ciim thai mak ai, tiah thuih.
The [in the pot represents] your immoral behavior. I tried to cleanse you from your wicked behavior, but you did not allow me to do that. So you will not be [from the guilt of your sin] [I have punished you and] I am no longer angry.
14 Kai, Angraeng mah thuih boeh; Kai loe ka thuih ih lok baktih toengah ka sak han, atue mah phak boeh; hnuk kang nawn let mak ai, ka paquem mak ai ueloe, dawnpakhuemhaih doeh ka tawn mak ai; na khok takanhaih hoi na sak ih hmuennawk baktih toengah, lok kang caek o han, tiah Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih.
I, Yahweh, have said [that I will surely punish you]. [And it is time] for me to do that. I will not change my mind; I will not refrain from punishing you, and I will not pity you. I will judge you [and punish you] as you deserve to be punished for your sinful behavior. [That will surely happen because] I, Yahweh the Lord, have said it.”’”
15 Angraeng ih lok kai khaeah angzoh,
[One day] Yahweh gave me this message:
16 kami capa, khenah, mik na cop koek ih kami to kang lak pae ving han boeh; toe palungsae hmah loe, qah hmah, mikkhraetui doeh longsak hmah.
“You human, I am going to suddenly take from [your wife], whom you love very much. [when she dies], do [show that you are] sad or lament or cry.
17 Pauep ah, kadueh kami to qah haih hmah, lumuek to angmuek ah loe, khokpanai to abuen ah, pahni to khuk hmah, palungsae kami ih takaw to caa hmah, tiah ang naa.
Groan quietly; do not cry [openly] for her. [Keep] your turban wrapped around your head, [instead of being barefoot, keep] your sandals on your feet. Do not cover the lower part of your [to show that you are sad]. And do not eat the kind of food that people who are mourning usually eat.”
18 To pongah akhawn bangah kaminawk khaeah lok to ka thuih, duembang ah loe ka zu to duek ving; thuih ih lok baktih toengah akhawn bangah ka sak.
[one morning] I talked to the [as usual], and that evening my wife [suddenly] died. The next morning I did what [Yahweh] had told me to do.
19 To naah kaminawk mah, Hae tiah na sak ih hmuennawk mah kai hnuksak han koi timaw oh, nang thui mak ai maw? tiah ang naa o.
Then the people asked me, “What do the things that you are doing signify to us?”
20 To pongah nihcae khaeah, Angraeng ih lok kai khaeah angzoh,
So I said to them, “[This is what] Yahweh told me:
21 Israel imthung takoh khaeah, Angraeng Sithaw mah, Khenah, Kaimah ih hmuenciim, kahoih koek nangcae thacakhaih, na khet koeh o ih ahmuen, na paawt o duek ih hmuennawk to kam hnongsak han; na caeh o taak ih na capanawk hoi na canunawk loe sumsen hoiah dueh o tih.
‘Tell the Israeli people [MTY] that I am about to destroy the temple, [the building] that you are very proud of, the building that you delight to look at. Your children whom you [in Jerusalem when you were forced to come to Babylon] will be killed [their enemies’] swords.
22 Ka sak ih baktih toengah na sah o toeng tih; pahni tamuep o hmah loe, palungsae kaminawk ih buh doeh caa o hmah.
[When that happens], you will do like I have done: You will not cover the lower part of your faces, or eat the kinds of food that people who are mourning usually eat.
23 Lumuek to angmuek oh loe, khokpanai to abuen oh; palungsae o hmah loe, qah o hmah; toe na zae o haih pongah ngan na zaek o ueloe, maeto hoi maeto na qah o haih tih.
[You will keep] your turbans wrapped around your heads and [keep] your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or cry, but your bodies will become very thin and slowly die because of your sins. And you will groan to each other.
24 Ezekiel loe nangcae han angmathaih ah om tih; a sak ih hmuennawk baktih toengah na sah o toeng tih; hae hmuen phak naah, Kai loe Angraeng Sithaw ni, tito na panoek o tih, tiah thuih.
Ezekiel will be a warning to you, and you must do what he has done. When that happens, you will know that I, Yahweh the [have the power to do what I say that I will do].’”
25 Nang, kami capa, nihcae thacakhaih, anghoe o haih hoi lensawkhaih, a khet koeh o ih hmuen, a koeh o ih hmuennawk, a capanawk hoi a canunawk to ka lak pae han.
[Then Yahweh said to me], “You human, [soon] I will destroy their sacred temple, which they rejoice about and which they respect and delight to look at, and [I will get rid of] their sons and daughters also.
26 To na niah kaloih kami to nang khaeah angzo ueloe, kangcoeng hmuen tamthang to na thui tih.
On that day, someone will escape [from Jerusalem] and come and tell you what has happened [there].
27 Kaloih kami hnuk na niah na pakha to among tih, lok na pae hoi tih, lok na aa mak ai boeh; nang loe nihcae han angmathaih ah om tih; to naah nihcae mah Kai loe Angraeng ni, tito panoek o tih, tiah ang naa.
When that happens, you will be able to speak again [MTY] [without constraint]. You two will talk together [DOU]. You will be a warning to the people; and they will know that I, Yahweh the Lord, [have the power to do what I say that I will do].”
