< Deuteronomy 9 >
1 Aw Israel kaminawk, tahngai oh; vaihiah nangcae pong kalen kue, thacak kue prae kaminawk hoi van khoek to kasang sipae thungh ih vangpuinawk to toep hanah, Jordan vapui to nang kat o tih boeh.
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass this day over the Jordan, to go in to drive out nations greater and mightier than thou, [to conquer] cities great and fortified up to heaven,
2 To kaminawk loe len o moe, sang o; Anak kaminawk kawng to na panoek o boeh; mi mah maw Anak kaminawk to pazawk thai tih? tiah thuih ih lok doeh na thaih o boeh.
A people great and tall, the children of the 'Anakim, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of 'Anak!
3 Toe na Angraeng Sithaw loe hmai kangqong baktiah nangcae hmaa ah caeh, tito vaihniah panoek oh; anih mah nihcae to amrosak tih; Anih mah to kaminawk to nangcae hma ah pazawk tih; Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, nihcae to na haek o ueloe, nihcae to karangah na hum o tih.
Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God it is who goeth over before thee, he is a consuming fire; he will destroy them, and he will subdue them before thy face; and thou wilt drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath spoken unto thee.
4 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah nangcae hma ah nihcae to haek bit naah, ka toeng pongah ni Angraeng mah hae prae hae toep hanah ang hoih, tiah poek o hmah; hae kaminawk loe set pongah ni Angraeng mah nangcae hma hoiah haek.
Thou must not say in thy heart, when the Lord thy God doth cast them out from before thee, as followeth, For my righteousness hath the Lord brought me in to possess this land; and that for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.
5 Na toenghaih hoi na poek toenghaih pongah, nihcae ih prae toep hanah na caeh ai; hae acaengnawk loe set o pongah ni, nam pa Abraham, Isak hoi Jakob khaeah lokkamhaih koepsak hanah, nihcae to nangcae hma hoiah Angraeng mah haek.
Not for thy righteousness, nor for the uprightness of thy heart, dost thou go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations doth the Lord thy God drive them out from before thee, and in order that he may fulfill the word which the Lord hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
6 Na toeng o pongah na Angraeng Sithaw mah kahoih hae prae hae toep hanah paek ih na ai ni; nangcae loe palungthah kami ah ni na oh o, tito panoek oh.
And thou shalt know, that not for thy righteousness doth the Lord thy God give unto thee this good land to possess it; for thou art a stiff-necked people.
7 Praezaek ah na Angraeng Sithaw to kawbangah maw palung na phui o sak, tito pahnet o hmah, pakuem o poe ah; Izip prae na caeh o taak ni hoi kamtong vaihni ni khoek to, Angraeng ih lok tahngai ai kami ah ni na oh o.
Remember, do not forget, how thou didst provoke the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou wentest out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, have ye been rebellious against the Lord.
8 Horeb ah Angraeng palung na phui o sak, anih loe nangcae hum han khoek to palungphui.
Also at Horeb ye provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry with you to destroy you.
9 Angraeng mah nangcae hoi sak ih lokmaihaih thlung to lak hanah, mae nuiah ka dawh tahang naah, takaw ka caa ai, tui doeh nae ai ah, mae nuiah ni qui palito hoi qum qui palito thung ka oh.
When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which the Lord had made with you, and I abode on the mount forty days and forty nights, bread did I not eat, and water did I not drink.
10 Sithaw ih banpazung hoiah tarik ih thlung kangphaek hnetto Angraeng mah ang paek; to thlung kangphaek hnetto nuiah loe, hmai kangqong mae nui ih amkhuenghaih niah, Angraeng mah nangcae khaeah thuih ih loknawk boih to oh.
And the Lord gave unto me the two tables of stone inscribed by the finger of God; and on them [was written] according to all the words, which the Lord had spoken with you on the mount out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.
11 Ni qui palito hoi qum qui palito boeng pacoengah loe, lokmaihaih thlung kangphaek, thlung kangphaek hnetto Angraeng mah ang paek.
And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave unto me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant.
12 To naah Angraeng mah kai khaeah, Angthawk ah loe, hae ahmuen hoi karangah caeh tathuk ah; Izip prae hoiah nangzoh haih ih nangmah ih kaminawk loe amro o boeh; ka paek ih lok to nihcae mah angqoi o taak moe, bok hanah krang to a sak o boeh, tiah ang naa.
And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from here; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have become corrupted; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I have commanded them; they have made themselves a molten image.
13 To pacoengah Angraeng mah kai khaeah, Hae kaminawk hae ka hnuk boeh; khenah, nihcae loe palungthah parai kami ah oh o!
And the Lord said unto me, thus, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people:
14 Kaimah bueng na omsak ah, van tlim ah nihcae ih ahmin oh han ai ah, ka phraek moe, nihcae to ka hum han boeh; toe nang loe nihcae pongah thacak kue, kapop kue acaeng ah kang sak han, tiah ang naa.
Let me alone, and I will destroy them, and blot out their name from under the heavens; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and more numerous than they.
15 To pongah kang qoi moe, hmai kangqong mae nui hoiah kang hum tathuk; lokmaihaih thlung kangphaek hnetto ban ah ka tapom.
And I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire; and the two tables of the covenant were upon my two hands.
16 Ka khet tathuk naah, nangmacae Angraeng Sithaw hmaa ah na zae o boeh, tito ka hnuk; nangmacae hanah maitaw caa krang to na sak o; Angraeng mah paek ih loklam hoiah karangah nang qoi o taak.
And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God, ye had made yourselves a molten calf; ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
17 To pongah ka ban ih thlung kangphaek hnetto to ka lak moe, nangcae mikhnuk ah ka vah phaeng.
And I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and I broke them before your eyes.
18 Nangcae mah Angraeng palungphuisak hanah, anih hmaa ah na sak o ih zaehaih pongah, hmaloe ah ka sak ih baktih toengah, takaw to ka caa ai, tui doeh nae ai ah, Angraeng hmaa ah ni qui palito hoi qum qui palito ka kuep.
And I threw myself down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; bread did I not eat, and water did I not drink; on account of all your sins which ye had committed, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
19 Nangcae hum han khoek to hmai baktiah kamngaeh Angraeng palungphuihaih to ka zit. Toe Angraeng mah ka lok ang tahngaih pae.
For I was afraid of the anger and the indignation, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you; but the Lord hearkened unto me also at that time.
20 Angraeng loe Aaron hum han khoek to palungphui; toe to nathuem ah kai mah Aaron hanah lawk ka thuih pae.
And with Aaron was the Lord very angry to destroy him; and I prayed also for Aaron at the same time.
21 Nangcae zaehaih ah kaom, ban hoi na sak o ih maitaw caa krang to ka lak moe, hmai hoiah ka qoeng; ka tit moe, kadip pueng khoek to ka naep pacoengah, mae nui hoiah long kathuk tui thungah ka vah.
And your work of sin, which ye had made, the calf, I took and burnt it in fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descendeth from the mount.
22 Taberah, Massah, Kibroth-Hattavah ahmuen ah doeh Angraeng palungphui hanah na sak o.
And at Taberah, and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah, have ye been provoking the Lord to wrath.
23 Angraeng mah Kadesh-Barnea hoiah, Caeh oh loe kang paek o ih prae to toep oh, tiah ang patoeh o; toe na Angraeng Sithaw mah paek ih lok to na aek o; anih to na oep o ai moe, a lok doeh na tahngai pae o ai.
And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh-barnea', saying, Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you: then rebelled ye against the order of the Lord your God, and ye believed not in him, and ye hearkened not to his voice.
24 Nangcae kang panoek tangsuek nathuem hoi boeh ni Angraeng ih lok aek kami ah na oh o.
Rebellious have ye been against the Lord, from the day that I have known you.
25 Angraeng mah nangcae hum han thuih naah, hmaloe ah ka sak ih baktih toengah, ni qui palito hoi qum qui palito thung Angraeng hmaa ah ka kuep.
And I threw myself down before the Lord those forty days and forty nights, which I threw myself down; because the Lord had said that he would destroy you.
26 Angraeng khaeah, Angraeng Sithaw, lensawkhaih hoiah na pahlong ih nangmah ih kaminawk hoi thacak na ban hoiah Izip prae thung hoi na zaehhoih ih, na qawktoep kaminawk to hum hmah.
And I prayed unto the Lord, and said, O Lord Eternal, destroy not thy people and thy heritage, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27 Na tamna Abraham, Issak hoi Jakob to pahnet hmah loe, hae kaminawk ih palung thahhaih, a set o haih hoi a zae o haihnawk doeh khen pae hmah rae ah;
Think of thy servants, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob; turn not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to its wickedness, nor to its sin:
28 to tih ai nahaeloe na zaehhoih ih prae kaminawk mah, Angraeng mah lokkam ih prae thungah nihcae to caeh haih thai ai, anih mah hnukma pongah ni nihcae to praezaek ah hum han ih a caeh haih, tiah thui o moeng tih.
Lest [the inhabitants of] the land whence thou hast brought us out say, Out of want of ability in the Lord to bring them into the land which he had promised them, and out of his hatred to them, hath he brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
29 Hae kaminawk loe nangmah ih kami ah ni oh o; na thacakhaih hoi thacak ban na payanghaih hoiah na zaehhoih ih nangmah ih qawktoep kami ah ni a oh o, tiah lawk ka thuih.
Whereas they are thy people and thy heritage, whom thou hast brought out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.
