< Deuteronomy 5 >

1 Mosi mah Israel kaminawk to kawk boih, nihcae khaeah, Aw Israel kaminawk, vaihniah nangcae thaih naah kang thuih o ih lokcaekhaih hoi zaehhoihaih daan lok hae tahngai oh; amtuk oh, kahoihah pakuem oh loe, pazui oh.
And Moses sent for all Israel, and said to them, Give ear, O Israel, to the laws and the decisions which I give you today, and give attention to them so that you may keep and do them.
2 Aicae Angraeng Sithaw loe Horeb ah aicae hoi lokmaihaih to sak boeh.
The Lord our God made an agreement with us in Horeb.
3 Angraeng loe hae lokmaihaih hae aicae ampanawk hoiah sah ai, aicae hoiah ni a sak, vaihniah haeah kaom kahing aicae hoiah ni a sak.
The Lord did not make this agreement with our fathers but with us, who are all living and present here today.
4 Mae nui ih hmai thung hoiah nangcae hoi mikhmai kangtong ah Angraeng mah lok ang thuih o,
The word of the Lord came to you face to face on the mountain, out of the heart of the fire,
5 to naah nangcae mah hmai to na zit o, mae ah na daw o thai ai pongah, Angraeng ih lok nangcae khaeah thuih hanah, Angraeng hoi nangcae salakah kai kang doet,
(I was between the Lord and you at that time, to make clear to you the word of the Lord: because, through fear of the fire, you did not go up the mountain; ) saying,
6 kai loe Izip prae, misong angtanghaih ahmuen hoiah zaehoikung, na Angraeng Sithaw ah ka oh.
I am the Lord your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house.
7 Ka hmaa ah kalah sithaw to bok o hmah.
You are to have no other gods but me.
8 Van ah kaom, long tlim ah kaom, tui thungah kaom kawbaktih krang hoi kanghmong krang doeh sah o hmah;
You may not make for yourselves an image in the form of anything in heaven or on earth or in the waters under the earth:
9 nihcae hma ah akuep o hmah loe, a tok doeh sah pae o hmah; Kai, na Angraeng Sithaw loe, ut panoek Sithaw, ampanawk ih zaehaih pongah a caanawk thuitaekkung, kai hnuma kaminawk ih caanawk to adung thumto maw, dung palito maw karoek thuitaekkung, Sithaw ah ka oh.
You may not go down on your faces before them or give them worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters;
10 Toe kai to palung moe, ka thuih ih lok pakuem kaminawk loe, a caanawk adung sangto karoek to palungnathaih amtuengsakkung ah ka oh.
And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those who have love for me and keep my laws.
11 Na Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin to avang ai ah patoh o hmah; amsoem ai ah anih ih ahmin patoh kami loe, Angraeng mah zaehaih tawn ai kami ah suem mak ai.
You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose will be judged as a sinner by the Lord.
12 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Sabbath ni to ciim o sak ah.
Keep the Sabbath day as a holy day, as you have been ordered by the Lord your God.
13 Ni tarukto thung toksah oh, na tok to sak pacoeng o boih ah.
On six days do all your work:
14 Toe ni sarihto naah loe na Angraeng Sithaw ih Sabbath niah oh; to na ni loe tih tok doeh sah o hmah; nangmacae maw, na capa hoi na canu maw, to tih ai boeh loe na tamna nongpa hoi nongpata maw, to tih ai boeh loe na tawnh ih maitaw hoi hrang maw, to tih ai boeh loe kawbaktih maitawnawk maw, na imthung ah kaom angvin mah doeh, tok a sak o han om ai; toksakhaih thung hoiah nang hak o baktih toengah, na tamna nongpa hoi nongpata mah doeh anghak o toeng han oh.
But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day do no work, you or your son or your daughter, or your man-servant or your woman-servant, or your ox or your ass or any of your cattle, or the man from a strange country who is living among you; so that your man-servant and your woman-servant may have rest as well as you.
15 Izip prae ah tamna ah na oh o naah, Angraeng mah thacak a ban payanghaih rang hoiah nangcae to zaeh o, tito panoek oh; to pongah ni na Angraeng Sithaw mah Sabbath ni zah hanah ang thuih o.
And keep in mind that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord your God took you out of that land by his strong hand and his stretched-out arm: for this reason the Lord has given you orders to keep the Sabbath day.
Give honour to your father and your mother, as you have been ordered by the Lord your God; so that your life may be long and all may be well for you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
17 Kami hum hmah.
Do not put anyone to death without cause.
18 Na zu sava laep ah nongpa nongpata zaehaih sah hmah.
Do not be false to the married relation.
19 Paqu hmah.
Do not take the property of another.
20 Na imtaeng kami nuiah amsoem ai hnukung ah angdoe hmah.
Do not give false witness against your neighbour;
21 Na imtaeng kami ih zu to khit hmah; na imtaeng kami ih im, lawk, a tamna nongpa, nongpata, anih ih maitaw tae, anih ih laa hrang, to tih ai boeh loe na imtaeng kami mah tawnh ih kawbaktih hmuen doeh khit hmah, tiah a thuih, tiah a naa.
Or let your desire be turned to your neighbour's wife, or his house or his field or his man-servant or his woman-servant or his ox or his ass or anything which is your neighbour's.
22 Hae lok loe Angraeng mah mae nuiah, hmai, tamai, kathah khoving thung hoi kalen parai lok hoiah ang thuih o ih lok ah oh; kalah lok to thui let ai boeh; to pacoengah anih mah thlung kangphaek hnetto pongah tarik moe, kai khaeah ang paek.
These words the Lord said to all of you together on the mountain, out of the heart of the fire, out of the cloud and the dark, with a great voice: and he said no more; he put them in writing on the two stones of the law and gave them to me.
23 Mae loe hmai ah angqong moe, kaving thung hoiah lok ka thaih naah, na caeng zaehoikungnawk hoi kacoehtanawk kai khaeah nang zoh o.
And after hearing the voice which came out of the dark while the mountain was burning with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your chiefs came to me,
24 Nangcae mah, Khenah, aicae Angraeng Sithaw mah a lensawkhaih hoi angraenghaih to aicae khaeah amtuengsak moe, hmai thung hoiah a thuih ih lok to a thaih o boeh; Sithaw loe kami hoiah lok apaeh, toe kami loe hing vop, tiah vaihniah a hnuk o boeh.
And said, The Lord has let us see his glory and his power, and his voice has come to us out of the fire: today we have seen that a man may go on living even after hearing the voice of God.
25 Tipongah vaihi a duek o han loe? Aicae Angraeng Sithaw ih lok, a thaih o let nahaeloe, a dueh o tih boeh, thacak kangqong hae hmai mah aicae hae na kangh tih boeh.
Why then is death to be our fate? For if the voice of the Lord our God comes to us any more, death will overtake us, and we will be burned up in this great fire.
26 A thaih o ih baktih toengah, kahing Sithaw mah hmai thung hoiah thuih ih lok thaih pacoengah, kawbaktih kami maw kahing vaih?
For what man is there in all the earth, who, hearing the voice of the living God as we have, out of the heart of the fire, has been kept from death?
27 Kanghnai ah caeh ah loe, aicae Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih ih lok to tahngai ah; to pacoengah aicae Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih ih lok to kaicae khaeah na thui ah; ka tahngaih o moe, ka pazui o han, tiah na thuih o.
Do you go near: and after hearing everything which the Lord our God has to say, give us an account of all he has said to you, and we will give ear, and do it.
28 Kai khaeah na thuih o ih lok to Angraeng mah thaih pongah, anih mah kai khaeah, Hae kaminawk mah ang thuih o ih loknawk to ka thaih boeh; a thuih o ih loknawk boih loe hoih.
Then the Lord, hearing your words to me, said to me, The words which this people have said to you have come to my ears: what they have said is well said.
29 Aw, nihcae hoi a caanawk dungzan khoek to khosak hoih o thai han hoi kai to zit o moe, ka thuih ih lok pakuem koehhaih palungthin tawnsak hanah ka koehhaih oh.
If only they had such a heart in them at all times, so that they might go in fear of me and keep my orders and that it might be well for them and for their children for ever!
30 Angmacae im ah a caeh o let hanah nihcae khaeah thui paeh.
Now say to them, Go back to your tents.
31 Toe nihcae mah pazui o moe, nihcae khaeah ka paek ih prae thungah, nihcae na patuk o thai hanah, kaalok boih, lokcaekhaih hoi zaehhoihaih daannawk to nang khaeah kang thuih han oh pongah, nang loe ka taengah angdoe ah, tiah ang naa.
But as for you, keep your place here by me, and I will give you all the orders and the laws and the decisions which you are to make clear to them, so that they may do them in the land which I am giving them for their heritage.
32 To pongah Angraeng mah ang thuih o ih lok to, banqoi bantang amkhraeng taak ai ah nangcae mah sah oh.
Take care, then, to do whatever the Lord your God has given you orders to do; let there be no turning away to the right hand or to the left.
33 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah thuih ih loklam baktih toengah caeh oh, to tiah na sak o nahaeloe, na hing o tih; khosakhoihaih na tawn o ueloe, na toep o ih prae thungah hinglung na sawk o tih.
Go on walking in the way ordered for you by the Lord your God, so that life may be yours and it may be well for you, and your days may be long in the land of your heritage.
