< Deuteronomy 24 >
1 Nongpa maeto mah zu lak naah, nongpata nuiah kaciim ai hmuen to a hnuk pongah, a zu nuiah poeknawm ai nahaeloe, zu pakhrakhaih ca to tarik tih, ca to nongpata hanah paek ueloe, a im hoiah tacawtsak tih.
When a man taketh a wife, and marrieth her, then it shall be, if she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
2 Anih ih im tacawt taak pacoengah loe, to nongpata to kalah kami maeto khaeah sava sak thaih boeh.
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s [wife].
3 Sava hnetto haih mah doeh to nongpata to hnuma nahaeloe, zu pakhrakhaih ca to tarik tih, ca to nongpata hanah paek ueloe, a im hoiah tacawtsak tih, to tih ai boeh loe to nongpata zu haih hnukkhuem sava to dueh ving nahaeloe,
And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
4 anih pakhrah kami hmaloe ih sava mah to nongpata to zu ah la let thai mak ai boeh; nongpata loe ciim ai boeh; zu haih nahaeloe Angraeng mik hnukah panuet thok hmuen ah oh; na Angraeng Sithaw mah qawk ah paek ih prae nuiah zaehaih sah o hmah.
her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
5 Kami maeto loe zu lak tangsuek naah, anih loe misa angtukhaih ahmuen ah caeh mak ai; anih loe kalah tok doeh sah mak ai; saningto thung toksah ai ah im ah om tih; a lak ih zu hoiah kanawm ah khosah tih.
When a man taketh a new wife, he shall not go out in the host, neither shall he be charged with any business: he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife which he hath taken.
6 Minawk ih cang kaehhaih ranui ih thlung maw, to tih ai boeh loe atlim ih thlung maw, la pae ving hmah; na lak pae ving nahaeloe, kami hinghaih lak pae ving baktiah ni oh.
No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh [a man’s] life to pledge.
7 Kami maeto mah angmah ih nawkamya Israel kami to paquk moe, misong ah patoh maw, to tih ai boeh loe zaw ving nahaeloe, anih to hum han oh; to tiah nangcae salak hoiah kahoih ai hmuen to takhoe oh.
If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and he deal with him as a slave, or sell him; then that thief shall die: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.
8 Ngansae man naah, Levi kami qaimanawk mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, kahoih ah pazui oh; anih mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah sah oh; nihcae khaeah ka thuih ih lok baktih toeng ah, nangcae mah pazui oh.
Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
9 Izip prae hoiah nang zoh o naah, loklam ah Miriam nuiah na Angraeng Sithaw mah sak ih hmuen to panoek oh.
Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam, by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt.
10 Kawbaktih hmuen doeh na imtaeng kami khaeah coi han na paek o naah, anih ih hmuen maeto lak pae hanah, anih imthung ah akun han om ai.
When thou dost lend thy neighbour any manner of loan, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.
11 Im tasa bangah om ah, hmuen na coisak ih kami mah ni pawng ih hmuen to nang hanah na sin pae tih.
Thou shalt stand without, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring forth the pledge without unto thee.
12 To kami loe amtang nahaeloe, a sin ih hmuen to qumh to laem ai ah paek let ah.
And if he be a poor man, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:
13 Anih mah sin ih hmuen to niduem ai naah thaak pae let ah; to tiah ni to kami loe angmah ih kahni hoiah iip ueloe, nang to tahamhoihaih na paek tih; to tiah nahaeloe na Angraeng Sithaw mikhnuk ah na sak ih hmuen to katoeng ah om tih.
thou shalt surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.
14 Nam nawkamya maw, to tih ai boeh loe na vangpui thungah kaom angvin maw, abomh han kangaih na tlai ih kamtang tamna to pacaekthlaek hmah.
Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:
15 Ni thokkruek anih ih tok tho to paek ah; paek ai ah niduemsak hmah; anih loe amtang pongah a hnuk han koi atho to palung thungah pakuem poe tih; na paek ai nahaeloe anih mah kasae thui tih, anih mah Angraeng khaeah qah nahaeloe, na nuiah zaehaih om moeng tih.
in his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.
16 A caanawk pongah ampanawk dueksak han om ai, ampanawk pongah a caanawk doeh paduek han om ai; kami boih angmah ih zaehaih pongah ni duek han oh.
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
17 Prae kalah kaminawk hoi amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk to amsoem ai ah lokcaek o hmah; lamhmai ih kahni doeh pawng ih hmuen ah la pae hmah;
Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take the widow’s raiment to pledge:
18 nang loe Izip prae ah misong ah ni na oh; toe na Angraeng Sithaw mah to prae thung hoiah ang pahlong, tiah panoek ah; to pongah hae tiah sak han lok kang paek.
but thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
19 Na lawk thung ih cang na aah naah, na tahmat ih cangqui to om nahaeloe, akhuih han amlaem let hmah; to cangqui loe prae kalah kaminawk, amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk hoi lamhmainawk hanah om tih; to tiah ni na ban hoi sak ih hmuen boih ah na Angraeng Sithaw mah tahamhoihaih paek tih.
When thou reapest thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
20 Olive kung pong ih olive thaih na haeh naah, kanghmat to pakhrik let hmah; kanghmat athaih loe prae kalah kaminawk, amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk hoi lamhmainawk hanah suem paeh.
When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
21 Misur takha thung ih misurthaih na pakhrik naah, kanghmat misurthaih pakhrik hanah caeh let hmah; kanghmat loe prae kalah kaminawk, amno ampa tawn ai kaminawk hoi lamhmainawk hanah caehtaak ah.
When thou gatherest [the grapes of] thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it after thee: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
22 Izip prae ah misong ah na oh o haih to pahnet o hmah; to pongah ni to tiah sak han kang thuih o.
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
