If your brother does not live near you, or if you do not know who he is, you are to take the animal home to remain with you until your brother comes seeking it; then you can return it to him.
3 Anih ih laa hrang maw, khukbuen maw, kanghmaa ving nam nawkamya ih kawbaktih hmuen doeh na hnuk nahaeloe, to tiah sah ah; panoek ai baktiah om hmah.
And you shall do the same for his donkey, his cloak, or anything your brother has lost and you have found. You must not ignore it.
4 Nam nawkamya ih laa hrang maw, to tih ai boeh loe loklam ah amtim sut maitaw maw na hnuk nahaeloe, panoek ai baktiah om hmah; pathawk let hanah anih to a bom ah.
If you see your brother’s donkey or ox fallen on the road, you must not ignore it; you must help him lift it up.
5 Nongpata mah nongpa ih khukbuen angkhuk han om ai; nongpa mah doeh nongpata ih khukbuen to angkhuk han om ai; to tiah sak ih hmuennawk loe Angraeng hmaa ah panuet thoh.
A woman must not wear men’s clothing, and a man must not wear women’s clothing, for whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD your God.
6 Loklam taeng ih thingkung nuiah maw, to tih ai boeh loe long ah maw, to tih ai boeh loe tavaa tabu thung ih tadui maw, to tih ai boeh loe kakhaek a caa maw na hnuk naah, tadui to a caa awh boeh nahaeloe, tavaa caa hoi amno to nawnto la hmaek hmah;
If you come across a bird’s nest with chicks or eggs, either in a tree or on the ground along the road, and the mother is sitting on the chicks or eggs, you must not take the mother along with the young.
7 khosak na hoih moe, hinglung sawk thai hanah, tavaa caa na lak cadoeh, amno to prawt ah.
You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days.
8 Imphu nui hoiah kami krah maat nahaloe, athii tho lu lakhaih oh han ai ah, im kangtha na sak naah, imphu ataeng boih to pakaa ah.
If you build a new house, you are to construct a railing around your roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt on your house if someone falls from it.
9 Na misur takha thungah kalah aanmunawk nawnto haeh hmah; na haeh nahaeloe, na haeh ih thingthai mah nangmah ih misurthaih to amhnongsak tih.
Do not plant your vineyard with two types of seed; if you do, the entire harvest will be defiled —both the crop you plant and the fruit of your vineyard.
10 Maitaw hoi laa hrang nawto laikok atoksak hmah.
Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.
11 Tuumui hoi puu ngan nawnto sak ih khukbuennawk to angkhuk hmah.
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
12 Nangmah ih kahni takii palito ah apawk to hui takaek ah.
You are to make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.
13 Kami maeto mah zu to lak moe, a iih haih pacoengah hnukma ving,
Suppose a man marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to hate her,
14 to nongpata to kasae a thuih moe, anih ih ahmin to setsak pacoengah, Hae nongpata hae zu ah ka lak boeh; toe anih khaeah ka caeh naah, kacuem ai tangla ni, tito ka panoek, tiah thui nahaeloe,
and he then accuses her of shameful conduct and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman and had relations with her, but I discovered she was not a virgin.”
15 nongpata ih amno hoi ampa mah, a canu loe kacuem tangla ah ni oh, tiah angmathaih hmuen to sin ueloe, kacoehtanawk ohhaih vangpui thungah caeh tih;
Then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring the proof of her virginity to the city elders at the gate
16 tangla ih ampa mah vangpui thung ih kacoehtanawk khaeah, Ka canu to hae kami han zu ah ka paek; toe anih mah hnukma ving boeh;
and say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he has come to hate her.
And now he has accused her of shameful conduct, saying, ‘I discovered that your daughter was not a virgin.’ But here is the proof of her virginity.” And they shall spread out the cloth before the city elders.
18 To naah vangpui thung ih kacoehtanawk mah to kami to kawk o ueloe, danpaek o tih.
Then the elders of that city shall take the man and punish him.
19 To kami mah kacuem Israel nongpata to ahmin kasae thuih pongah, phoisa shekel cumvaito hoiah tangla ih ampa to rong tih; nongpata to zu haih tih, a hing thung pakhrah mak ai.
They are also to fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given a virgin of Israel a bad name. And she shall remain his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.
20 Toe a nethaih lok loe tangtang ah oh moe, tangla cuemhaih to patuek thai ai,
If, however, this accusation is true, and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found,
21 tangla loe ampa im ah oh naah, daan baktih na ai ah nongpa nongpata zaehaih to sah nahaeloe, Israel kaminawk salakah azat hanah a sak pongah, to tangla to ampa ih im thok taengah hoi o ueloe, vangpui thung ih nongpanawk mah thlung hoiah duek khoek to va o tih; to tiah a sak ih kahoih ai hmuen to nangcae salak hoiah tahmat oh.
she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house, and there the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an outrage in Israel by being promiscuous in her father’s house. So you must purge the evil from among you.
22 Minawk ih zuu iip haih kami loe, a iihhaih nongpata hoi nawnto hum han oh; to tiah Israel kaminawk salakah kaom kaciim ai hmuen to takhoe oh.
If a man is found lying with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.
23 Kacuem tangla maeto loe sava sak hanah kami maeto mah hamh; toe tangla loe kami maeto mah vangpui thungah hnuk naah, anih to iih haih,
If there is a virgin pledged in marriage to a man, and another man encounters her in the city and sleeps with her,
24 toe tangla loe vangpui thungah minawk mah pahlong thai hanah hang ai; nongpa doeh a imtaeng kami ih zu to ahmin setsak pongah, nihnik to vangpui khongkha taengah caeh o haih ueloe, duek khoek to thlung hoiah va o tih; to tiah kahoih ai hmuen to nangcae salak hoiah takhoe oh.
you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has violated his neighbor’s wife. So you must purge the evil from among you.
25 Toe kami maeto mah zu ah hamh ih tangla to taw ah hnuk, to naah tangla to tha hoiah naeh moe, zae haih nahaeloe nongpata nuiah zaehaih sah nongpa khue to hum han oh;
But if the man encounters a betrothed woman in the open country, and he overpowers her and lies with her, only the man who has done this must die.
26 nongpata nuiah tidoeh sah o hmah; tangla loe duek han khawt zaehaih to sah ai; hae hmuen loe kami maeto hoi maeto angzoeh moe, hum ih hmuen baktiah ni oh:
Do nothing to the young woman, because she has committed no sin worthy of death. This case is just like one in which a man attacks his neighbor and murders him.
27 nongpa mah nongpata to taw ah hnuk, to naah minawk mah hamh ih tangla loe hangh; toe pahlongkung mi doeh om ai,
When he found her in the field, the betrothed woman cried out, but there was no one to save her.
28 to pacoengah kami maeto mah sava sah ai kacuem tangla maeto hnuk naah, anih to naeh moe, a iih haih, tiah minawk mah hnu nahaeloe,
If a man encounters a virgin who is not pledged in marriage, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered,
29 nongpata iip haih kami mah tangla ih ampa to phoisa qui pangato hoiah rong pae tih; nongpata to zae haih boeh pongah, anih ih zu ah om tih, a hing thung nongpata to pakhrah mak ai.
then the man who lay with her must pay the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she must become his wife because he has violated her. He must not divorce her as long as he lives.
30 Kami mah ampa ih zu to lak han om ai; ampa ih iihkhun to panuet thok ah sak han om ai.
A man is not to marry his father’s wife, so that he will not dishonor his father’s marriage bed.
