< Deuteronomy 18 >
1 Levi acaeng qaimanawk, Levi acaengnawk boih loe Israel kaminawk baktiah qawktoep o mak ai; nihcae loe Angraeng hmaa ah hmai angbawnhaih toksak hoiah ni hing o tih, to tiah sak ih tok loe nihcae ih qawk ah ni oh boeh.
The Levitical priests—indeed the whole tribe of Levi—shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They are to eat the offerings made by fire to the LORD; that is their inheritance.
2 Nihcae loe angmacae nawkamyanawk salakah qawk tawn o mak ai; nihcae khaeah a thuih pae ih lok baktih toengah, Angraeng loe nihcae ih qawk ah om tih.
Although they have no inheritance among their brothers, the LORD is their inheritance, as He promised them.
3 Kaminawk mah maitaw hoiah maw, to tih ai boeh loe tuu hoiah maw angbawnhaih sak o naah, palaeng, akam huh hnetto hoi tazae taqawnnawk to qaima han paek han oh.
This shall be the priests’ share from the people who offer a sacrifice, whether a bull or a sheep: the priests are to be given the shoulder, the jowls, and the stomach.
4 Cang kangtha, misurtui hoi situi, hmaloe koek na aah ih tuumui to anih han paek ah.
You are to give them the firstfruits of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the first wool sheared from your flock.
5 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah acaengnawk boih thung hoiah anih to qoih boeh pongah, anih loe angmah hoi a caanawk khoek to Angraeng ih ahmin hoiah angdoe ueloe, anih ih tok to sah poe tih.
For the LORD your God has chosen Levi and his sons out of all your tribes to stand and minister in His name for all time.
6 Israel kaminawk ohhaih vangpuinawk thungah kaom, Levi kami maeto Angraeng mah qoih ih ahmuen ah kalen parai oephaih hoiah angzo nahaeloe,
Now if a Levite moves from any town of residence throughout Israel and comes in all earnestness to the place the LORD will choose,
7 to ahmuen ah Angraeng hmaa ah toksah angmacae Levi acaengnawk baktih toengah, angmah ih Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin hoiah toksah toeng tih.
then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the LORD.
8 A tawnh ih hmuen to zawh moe, hak ih phoisa khue ai ah loe, caak han koi hmuennawk loe kangvan ah amzet o tih.
They shall eat equal portions, even though he has received money from the sale of his father’s estate.
9 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah paek ih prae thungah na kun o naah, to ah kaom kaminawk ih panuet thok tuinuen to awt o hmah loe, kuu doeh la o hmah.
When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.
10 Na capa maw, to tih ai boeh loe na canu maw, to tih ai boeh loe hmai hoi angbawnhaih sah kami maw, to tih ai boeh loe angzo han koi hmuen kawng thui kami maw, to ai boeh loe atue khet hoi hmuen kawng thui kami maw, to tih ai boeh loe angmathaih hmuen khet kop kami maw, mauih maw,
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, practices divination or conjury, interprets omens, practices sorcery,
11 to tih ai boeh loe adoi sah kop kami maw, to tih ai boeh loe pakhra kawk kop kami maw, to tih ai boeh loe kadueh pakhra hoi lokpae thaih kaminawk maw nangcae salakah ohsak han om ai.
casts spells, consults a medium or spiritist, or inquires of the dead.
12 To baktih hmuen sah kaminawk loe, Angraeng hmaa ah panuet thok kami ah oh o; to baktih panuet thok hmuennawk to a sak o pongah, to kaminawk to na hmaa hoiah na Angraeng Sithaw mah haek boeh.
For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD. And because of these detestable things, the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you.
13 Nang loe na Angraeng Sithaw hmaa ah coek koi om ai ah om ah.
You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
14 Na uk han koi prae kaminawk loe atue khet kop kami, angzo han koi hmuen kawng thui kaminawk ih lok to tahngai pae o; toe nang loe to tiah oh hanah, na Angraeng Sithaw mah asaeng ai.
Though these nations, which you will dispossess, listen to conjurers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
15 Na Angraeng Sithaw mah kai baktih kaom kami maeto, nam nawkamya thung hoiah tacawtsak tih; anih ih lok to tahngai oh;
The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to him.
16 Horeb mae ah amkhuenghaih niah nangcae mah, Ka Angraeng Sithaw ih lok na thaisak hmah loe, to baktih kalen parai hmai doeh na hnusak hmah; ka dueh o moeng tih, tiah nang naa o.
This is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God or see this great fire anymore, so that we will not die!”
17 Angraeng mah kai khaeah, Nihcae mah thuih o ih lok loe hoih.
Then the LORD said to me, “They have spoken well.
18 Nang baktiah kaom tahmaa maeto nihcae nawkamyanawk thung hoiah ka tacawtsak moe, anih ih pakha ah ka loknawk to ka suek han; anih mah ka thuih ih loknawk boih nihcae khaeah thui pae tih.
I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
19 Anih mah ka hmin hoi thuih ih loknawk tahngai ai kami, to baktih kami to lok ka caek han.
And I will hold accountable anyone who does not listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My name.
20 Toe thuih han ka paek ai ih lok Kai ih ahmin hoiah thui tahmaa, kalah sithawnawk ih ahmin hoiah lokthui tahmaa loe paduek han oh, tiah ang naa.
But if any prophet dares to speak a message in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or to speak in the name of other gods, that prophet must be put to death.”
21 Angraeng mah thui ai ih lok to, kawbangah maw ka panoek o thai han loe? tiah na thuih o nahaeloe,
You may ask in your heart, “How can we recognize a message that the LORD has not spoken?”
22 Tahmaa maeto mah Angraeng ih ahmin hoiah thuih ih lok baktih toengah pha ai, a thuih ih lok baktiah akoep ai nahaeloe, to lok to Angraeng mah thuih ih lok na ai ni. To tahmaa loe angmah koehah ni misahoihaih hoiah lok to a thuih; to pongah anih to zii o hmah.
When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the message does not come to pass or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
