< Daniel 1 >
1 Judah siangpahrang Jehoiakim ukhaih saning thumto haih naah, vangpui ven khoep hanah Babylon siangpahrang Nebuchanezzar loe Jerusalem ah angzoh.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 Sithaw mah Judah siangpahrang Jehoiakim hoi Sithaw imthung ih thoemto hmuennawk to Nebuchanezzar ban ah paek; anih mah to hmuennawk to angmah sithaw im ohhaih Shinar prae thungah phawh moe, angmah sithaw im ih hmuen patunghaih ahmuen ah suek.
And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim the king of Judah and a portion of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them away into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure chamber of his god.
3 To naah siangpahrang mah, tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung Ashpenaz to kawk moe, Israel caanawk, siangpahrang caanawk, oep kaom angmah ih ukkung angraeng ih caanawk,
And the king told Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the offspring of the king and of the sovereigns:
4 coek koi om ai, tungkrang kahoih, palunghahaih, panoek thaihaih, hmuenmae sak thoemhaih katawn, siangpahrang imthung ah toksah thaih, Khaldian lok hoiah ca patuk thaih, thoemto thendoengnawk to hoih hanah lok a paek.
young men, in whom there was no blemish, noble in appearance, and accomplished in all wisdom, cautious in knowledge, and well-educated, and who could stand in the palace of the king, so that he might teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Siangpahrang mah caak ih buh hoi a naek ih misurtui to nihcae hanah ni thokkruek a paek; siangpahrang hma ah angdoet moe, a tok sak pae hanah, nihcae to saning thumto thung patuk.
And the king appointed for them provisions for each day, from his own food and from the wine which he himself drank, so that, after being nourished for three years, they would stand in the sight of the king.
6 Nihcae thungah Judah kami Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael hoi Azariah cae to athum o:
Now, among those of the sons of Judah, there were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 to naah tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung mah nihcae han ahmin kangtha to paek; Daniel to Belteshazzar; Hananiah to Shadrak; Mishael to Meshak; Azariah to Abed-Nego, tiah a paek.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned names to them: to Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Toe Daniel loe siangpahrang mah caak ih buh, a naek ih misurtui hoi khosak amhnong han ai ah poek; to pongah panuet thok ah khosak han ai ah to ih tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung kalen koek khaeah tahmenhaih a hnik.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not be polluted with the king’s meal, nor with the wine he drank, and he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not be contaminated.
9 Sithaw toksakhaih rang hoiah Daniel loe to ih tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung kalen koek mik hnukah palung kap koi kaom kami ah oh.
And so God gave Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the leader of the eunuchs.
10 Tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung mah Daniel khaeah, Kaimah ih siangpahrang to ka zit, siangpahrang mah na caak moe, na naek han koi buh aan to suekcoek boeh; to buh aan to na caa ai pongah, anih mah nang ih krang to nangmah hoi saning anghmong thendoengnawk ih krang pong kasae kue ah hnu nahaeloe, siangpahrang mah ka lu hae takroek pat tih, tiah a naa.
And the leader of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed food and drink for you, who, if he should see that your faces are leaner than those of the other youths your age, you would condemn my head to the king.”
11 To naah tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung mah Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael hoi Azariah cae toep hanah, qoih ih Melzar khaeah, Daniel mah,
And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the leader of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 tahmenhaih kang hnik, na tamnanawk hae, ni hato thung tanoek ah; aan hoi tui khue mah na paek o nasoe.
“I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,
13 To pacoengah siangpahrang ih buh caa thendoengnawk ih krang hoi kaicae ih krang to na hma ah khingh o nasoe; to naah nang hnuk o ih baktih toengah, na tamnanawk nuiah sah oh, tiah a naa.
and then observe our faces, and the faces of the children who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
14 To naah nihcae mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah anih mah naakrak pae pongah, ni hato thung nihcae to tanoek.
When he had heard these words, he tested them for ten days.
15 Ni hato pacoengah nihcae loe siangpahrang ih buh caa thendoengnawk pongah kranghoih o moe, taksa doeh hoih o kue.
But, after ten days, their faces appeared better and fatter than all the children who had eaten from the king’s food.
16 To pongah toepkung Melzar mah nihcae taham ah suek ih caaknaek to takhoe ving moe, nihcae hanah aan khue to a paek.
Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.
17 Sithaw mah hae thendoeng palitonawk khaeah, panoekhaih, ca boih kophaih hoi palunghahaih to paek; Daniel loe hnuksakhaih hoiah amang panoek thaihaih to tawnh.
Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.
18 Saning koep boeh moe, nihcae siangpahrang im ah caeh haih han atue phak naah loe, tangyat mii kadueh kaminawk ukkung mah nihcae to Nebuchadnezzar hma ah caeh haih.
And when the time was completed, after which the king had said that they would be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before the sight of Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Siangpahrang mah nihcae to lokdueng; to ih kaminawk boih thungah Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah cae hoi anghmong kami mi doeh om ai; to pongah nihcae loe siangpahrang hma ah toksak o.
And, when the king conversed with them, there had not been found any so great in all the world as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and so they stood in the sight of the king.
20 Palunghahaih hoi panoekhaih bang ih hmuennawk boih to siangpahrang mah caek tanoek naah, nihcae loe a ukhaih prae thung boih ih miklet kop kaminawk hoi banpadae khet kop kaminawk pongah alet hato hoih o kue, tiah a hnuk.
And in every concept of wisdom and understanding, about which the king consulted with them, he found them to be ten times better than all the seers and astrologers put together, who were in his entire kingdom.
21 Daniel loe Cyrus siangpahrang ukhaih saningto haih khoek to tok sak.
And so Daniel remained, even until the first year of king Cyrus.
