1 Apollo Korin vangpui ah oh naah, Pawl loe aluek bang prae hoiah Efisa vangpui ah angzoh: toah thoemto hnukbang kaminawk to a hnuk,
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland districts of Roman Asia, and went to Ephesus. There he found some disciples, of whom he asked,
2 to naah nihcae khaeah, Na tang o pacoengah Kacai Muithla na hnuk o boeh maw? tiah a dueng; to naah nihcae mah, Kacai Muithla oh, tito ka thaih o vai ai, tiah pathim pae o.
“Did you, when you became believers in Christ, receive the Holy Spirit?” “No,” they answered, “we did not even hear that there was a Holy Spirit.”
3 Anih mah nihcae khaeah, to tih nahaeloe kawbaktih tuinuemhaih maw na hnuk o? tiah a naa. Nihcae mah, Johan tuinuemhaih, tiah a naa o.
“What then was your baptism?” Paul asked.
4 Pawl mah, Johan tuinuemhaih loe dawnpakhuem tuinuemhaih ni, anih mah loe angmah hnukah angzo han koi kami to ni tang o hanah kaminawk khaeah thuih pae, to angzo han koi kami loe Jesu Kri thuih koehhaih ih ni, tiah a naa.
“John’s baptism was a baptism on repentance,” rejoined Paul, “and John told the people (speaking of the ‘one coming’ after him) that they should believe in him – that is in Jesus.”
5 Nihcae mah to lok to thaih o naah, Jesu Kri ih ahmin hoiah tuinuem o.
On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus,

and, after Paul had placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit descended on them, and they began to speak in other languages and to preach.
7 Nihcae loe sungqum boih ah kami hatlai hnetto oh o.
There were about twelve of them in all.
8 Pawl loe sineko thungah caeh moe, khrah thumto thung misahoihaih hoiah lokthuih, kaminawk Sithaw ukhaih prae ah paqoi thai hanah lok a thuih pae.
Paul went to the synagogue there, and for three months spoke out fearlessly, giving addresses and trying to convince his hearers, about the kingdom of God.
9 Toe thoemto kaminawk loe palung thah o parai moe, a thuih ih lok to tang pae o ai, hae baktih Sithaw bokhaih loklam loe hoih ai, tiah kaminawk khaeah thuih pae o pongah, Pawl mah nihcae to caehtaak ving, hnukbang kaminawk hoi ampraek o pacoengah, Tyrana ca amtukhaih im ah nithokkruek ca to patuk.
Some of them, however, hardened their hearts and refused to believe, denouncing the Way before the people. So Paul left them and withdrew his disciples, and gave daily addresses in the lecture-hall of Tyrannus.
10 To tiah saning hnetto thung tok a sak, to pongah Asia prae ah kaom Judahnawk hoi Griknawk boih mah Angraeng Jesu ih lok to thaih o.
This went on for two years, so that all who lived in Roman Asia, Jews and Greeks alike, heard the Lord’s message.
11 Sithaw mah Pawl patohhaih rang hoiah dawnrai hmuennawk to sak:
God did miracles of no ordinary kind by Paul’s hands;
12 Pawl mah patoh ih pavawh hoi kaeng ah angzaeng ih kahni mataeng doeh ngantui ai kaminawk khaeah sinh pae o naah, to pavawh sui kaminawk boih ngantui o moe, kasae muithlanawk doeh nihcae thung hoiah tacawt o.
so that people would carry home to the sick handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his body, and their diseases would leave them and the wicked spirits go out of them.
13 To naah taqawk haek thaih, Judahnawk mah, Angraeng Jesu ih ahmin hoiah kasae muithlanawk to haek hanah taqawk mah naeh ih kaminawk khaeah caeh o moe, Kami takoh thung hoi tacawt hanah Pawl mah taphong ih Angraeng Jesu ih ahmin hoiah lok kang paek, tiah a naa o.
An attempt was made by some itinerant Jews, who were exorcists, to use the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had wicked spirits in them. “I order you,” they would say, “by the Jesus, whom Paul preaches.”
14 Kalen koek qaima, Judah kami, Sceva ih capa taruktonawk mah to tiah sak o.
The seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this;
15 Kasae muithla mah, Jesu loe ka panoek, Pawl doeh ka panoek; toe nangcae loe mi aa? tiah a naa.
but the wicked spirit answered them, “Jesus I acknowledge, and Paul I know, but you – who are you?”
16 To naah kasae muithla tawn kami mah nihcae to hmang, nihcae to apanh moe, pazawk; nihcae loe ahmaa cak o moe, to im hoiah bangkrai ah cawnh o ving.
Then the man, in whom this wicked spirit was, sprang on them, mastered both of them, and so completely overpowered them, that they fled out of the house, stripped of their clothes, and wounded.
17 To hmuen kawng to Efisa vangpui ah kaom Judahnawk hoi Griknawk mah thaih o naah, nihcae loe zit o moe, Angraeng Jesu ih ahmin to pakoeh o.
This incident came to the knowledge of all the Jews and Greeks living at Ephesus; they were all awe-struck, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in the highest honor.
18 Pop parai tang caanawk angzoh o moe, a sak o ih hmuen kawng to taphong o.
Many, too, of those who had become believers in Christ came with a full confession of their practices;
19 Miklet kop kaminawk loe angmacae ih cabunawk to sinh o cuu moe, kaminawk hma ah hmai hoiah qoeng o: to cabu atho to nihcae mah pakoep o naah, sum phoisa sing pangato phak.
while a number of people, who had practiced magic, collected their books and burnt them publicly; and on reckoning up the price of these, they found it amounted to fifty thousand silver coins.
20 To tiah Sithaw lok to qoeng moe, pung tahang.
So irresistibly did the Lord’s message spread and prevail.
21 To tiah hmuennawk oh pacoengah, Pawl loe Macedonia prae hoiah Akaia prae ah caeh poe moe, Jerusalem ah ka caeh pacoengah, Rom vangpui ah ka caeh han, tiah poekhaih a tawnh.
Sometime after these events Paul resolved to go through Macedonia and Greece, and then make his way to Jerusalem. “And after I have been there,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.”

So he sent to Macedonia two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, while he himself stayed for some time longer in Roman Asia.

Just about that time a great disturbance arose about the Way.
24 Demetria, tiah ahmin kaom sum daeng kami maeto loe, Diana bokhaih im to sak pongah phoisa paroeai a hnuk;
A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver models of the shrine of Artemis, and so gave a great deal of work to the artisans,
25 anih loe toksah ampuinawk hoi taqawk bokhaih im sah kaminawk to kawk moe, Ampuinawk, aicae loe hae tok a sak o haih hoiah paroeai amekhaih a hnuk o, tito na panoek o.
got these men together, as well as the workmen engaged in similar occupations, and said: “Men, you know that our prosperity depends on this work,
26 Hae kami Pawl mah Efisa vangpui khue ai, Asia prae boih ah kami ban hoiah sak ih sithaw loe Sithaw tangtang na ai ni, tiah paroeai kaminawk to pacuek moe, loklam amkhraengsak boih boeh, tito na hnuk o moe, na thaih o boeh:
and you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but in almost the whole of Roman Asia, this Paul has convinced and won over great numbers of people, by his assertion that those Gods which are made by hands are not Gods at all.
27 to pongah kaminawk mah aicae ih tok hae kasae thui o tih, tiah doeh sah o mak ai boeh; lensawk Diana sithaw amno ih tempul doeh kaminawk mah khen o pasae ueloe, phrae o tih boeh; Asia prae boih hoi long pum mah bok o ih sithaw amno hoi sithaw lensawkhaih doeh anghmaa tih boeh, tiah a naa.
So that not only is this business of ours likely to fall into discredit, but there is the further danger that the Temple of the great Goddess Artemis will be thought nothing of, and that she herself will be deprived of her splendor – though all Roman Asia and the whole world worship her.”

When they heard this, the men were greatly enraged, and began shouting – “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
29 Vangpui loe lok angaekhaih hoiah koi: poek amhonghaih hoiah hnawhhaih imthung ah nawnto caeh o moe, Pawl hoi nawnto kholong kacaeh, Macedonia kami ah kaom, Kaia hoi Aristarka to naeh o.
The commotion spread through the whole city, and the people rushed together into the amphitheater, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, two Macedonians who were Paul’s traveling companions.
30 Pawl loe kaminawk salakah akun han koeh, toe hnukbang kaminawk mah pakaa pae o.
Paul wished to go into the amphitheater and face the people, but the disciples would not let him,
31 Asia prae thungah kaom Pawl ih ampuinawk, thoemto angraengnawk mah doeh hnawhhaih imthung ah caeh han ai ah lokpat pae o.
while some of the chief religious officials of the province, who were friendly to him, sent repeated entreaties to him not to trust himself inside.
32 Toah kaom kaminawk loe poek anghmang o sut moe, maeto hoi maeto mah thuih ih lok lah boih pongah, paroeai kaminawk loe tipongah maw hae ah nawnto amkhueng o, tito panoek o ai.
Meanwhile some were shouting one thing and some another, for the Assembly was all in confusion, most of those present not even knowing why they had met.
33 Alexander to pop parai kaminawk salak hoiah a zaeh o, Judahnawk mah anih to hmabang ah tanawt o. Alexander mah rangpuinawk khaeah lokthuih koeh pongah, ban hoi angmathaih to paek.
But some of the crowd prompted Alexander, whom several of the Jewish leaders had pushed to the front, and he waved his hand to show that he wanted to speak in their defense to the people.
34 Toe nihcae mah anih loe Judah kami ni, tiah panoek o naah loe, kaminawk boih mah lok maeto hoiah, Efisa kaminawk ih Diana hae len koek, tiah atue hnetto thung hang o.
However, when they recognized him as a Jew, one cry broke from them all, and they continued shouting for two hours – “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
35 Avang thung ih ca tarik kami mah rangpui kaminawk to kamongah ohsak pacoeng ah, nangcae Efisa kaminawk, Efisa vangpui thungah kaom kaminawk loe Jupiter hoi kakrah tathuk kalen sawk Diana sithaw ih krang bok kami ah na oh o, tito panoek ai kami om tih maw?
When the Recorder had succeeded in quieting the crowd, he said, “People of Ephesus, who is there, I ask you, who needs to be told that this city of Ephesus is the Warden of the Temple of the great Artemis, and of the statue which fell down from Zeus?
36 Hae lok hae mi mah doeh aek thai mak ai, to pongah kawbaktih hmuen doeh tha patohhaih hoi sah ai ah, na oh o duem han oh, tiah a naa.
As these are undeniable facts, you ought to keep calm and do nothing rash;
37 Hae kami hnik loe tempul ih hmuen paqu kami na ai ni, nangcae ih sithaw amno doeh kasae thui hoi ai to mah, haeah nang hoih o.
for you have brought these men here, though they are neither robbers of Temples nor blasphemers of our Goddess.
38 Demetria hoi sum daeng angmah ih ampuinawk mah kaminawk nuiah palungphuihaih tawn o nahaeloe, lokcaekhaih ahmuen to oh: lokcaekkung doeh oh, toah maeto hoi maeto mikhmai kangtong ah lok a thuih o han oh.
If, however, Demetrius and the artisans who are acting with him have a charge to make against anyone, there are court days and there are Magistrates; let both parties take legal proceedings.
39 To pacoengah kalah hmuen kawng lokdueng han na koeh o nahaeloe, daan baktiah sak ih amkhuenghaih ahmuen ah lok to dueng han oh.
But if you want anything more, it will have to be settled in the regular Assembly.
40 Aicae pongah maw vaihniah kaom lokpunghaih hae oh moeng, tiah kho a poek o han oh, hae tiah rangpui angcuuhaih ahmuen ah thuih han koi lokpui parai maeto doeh om ai, tiah a naa.
For I tell you that we are in danger of being proceeded against for today’s riot, there being nothing to account for it; and in that case we will be at a loss to give any reason for this disorderly gathering.”

With these words he dismissed the Assembly.
