< 2 Samuel 3 >
1 Saul imthung takoh hoi David imthung takoh saning kasawkah misa angtukhaih to oh. David imthung takoh loe thacak o aep aep; toe Saul imthung takoh loe thazok o aep aep.
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2 David loe Hebron ah oh naah caa nongpanawk to sak; Jezreel ih kami Ahinoam mah a calu nongpa Ammon to sak pae;
Now sons were born to David in Hebron. And his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel;

and his second, Daluiah, of Abigail of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4 palito haih capa Adonijah loe, Haggith mah sak pae; pangato haih capa Shephatiah loe, Abital mah sak pae;
and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah, of Abital;

and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
6 Saul imthung takoh hoi David imthung takoh misa angthawk naah, Abner mah Saul imthung takoh to kacakah angdoet haih.
And it came about while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was gaining power in the house of Saul.
7 Saul mah Aih canu Rizpah to zula ah suek; Ish-Boseth mah Abner khaeah, Tipongah kampa ih zula khaeah na iih loe? tiah a naa.
Now Saul had a secondary wife, Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbaal son of Saul said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's secondary wife?"
8 Ish-Boseth mah to tiah naa pongah Abner loe paroeai palungphui moe, nampa Saul ih imthung takoh, a caanawk hoi anih ih ampuinawk nuiah oepthok ah ka oh, nang hae David ban ah ka paek ai; kai loe Judah kaminawk pakaa kami ah na ai maw ka oh; toe vaihi loe kai hae ui lu baktiah maw nang poek moe, hae nongpata hoiah zaehaih sah kami ah nang net?
Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ishbaal, and said, "Am I a dog's head? Until today, is it for myself that I have been doing all these things, showing loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David? And yet you charge me this day with a fault concerning this woman.
9 Angraeng mah David khaeah suek ih lokkamhaih baktih toengah, David hanah tok ka sah pae ai moe,
God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as the LORD has sworn to David, I do not do even so to him;
10 Saul ih imthung hoiah siangpahrang ukhaih prae to lak ving moe, Israel hoi Judah prae khoek to, Dan hoi Beersheba khoek to, David ih angraeng tangkhang to padoet hanah ka bomh ai nahaeloe, Sithaw mah Abner khaeah kanung aep ah toksah na soe, tiah a naa.
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba."
11 Ish-Boseth mah Abner to zit pongah, lok pakha to doeh pathim pae ai.
And Ishbaal could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
12 To naah Abner mah angmah zuengah laicaehnawk to David khaeah patoeh moe, Hae loe mi ih prae aa? Kai hoi angdaehhaih sah ah; khenah, Israel kaminawk nang khaeah angzoh o thai boih hanah, kang bom han, tiah a naa.
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, "Whose is the land?" and saying, "Make an agreement with me, and look, my hand shall be with you, to bring all Israel around to you."
13 David mah, Hoih, nang hoi angdaehhaih ka sak han; toe kang khaeah hnik han ih hmuen maeto ka tawnh; kai tongh han nang zoh naah, Saul ih canu Mikal to angzo haih ai ah loe kai hnuk hanah angzo hmah, tiah a naa.
He said, "Good. I will make a covenant with you, but one thing I require of you. That is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Mikal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face."
14 To pacoengah David mah Saul capa Ish-Boseth khaeah laicaeh to patoeh moe, Philistin kami cumvaitonawk ih ahin hoiah kaimah hanah zu ah ka hamh ih, Mikal to na paek ah, tiah a naa.
David sent messengers to Ishbaal, Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Mikal, whom I betrothed to myself for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines."
15 To pongah Ish-Boseth mah kami patoeh moe, Mikal to a sava Laish capa Phatiel khae hoiah a lak pae.
Ishbaal sent and took her from her husband Paltiel the son of Laish.
16 A sava loe Bahurim vangpui karoek to a zu hnukah bang moe, qah khing. To naah Abner mah, Im ah amlaem lai ah, tiah a naa. To pongah anih loe im ah amlaem let.
But her husband went with her, weeping behind her, as far as Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go back." So he went back.
17 Abner loe Israel kacoehtanawk hoiah lokramhaih sak moe, nihcae khaeah, David to nangmacae ih siangpahrang ah suek hanah canghni hoiah na koeh o boeh;
Abner advised the elders of Israel, saying, "For some time you have wanted David to be king over you.
18 vaihi sah o lai ah; Angraeng mah David khaeah, Ka tamna David rang hoiah kaimah ih kami Israelnawk to Philistin kaminawk ban hoi angmacae misanawk ih ban thung hoiah ka pahlong han, tiah lok a suek boeh, tiah a naa.
Now then do it, for the LORD has spoken of David, saying, 'By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'"
19 Abner loe Benjamin kaminawk khaeah doeh lokthuih pae; to pacoengah Israel kaminawk mah sak koeh o ih hmuennawk hoi Benjamin imthung takoh boih mah sak koeh o ih hmuennawk to thuih pae hanah, David khaeah caeh.
And Abner also spoke privately to the sons of Benjamin. And Abner also spoke privately to David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 Abner loe angmah ih kami pumphaeto hoiah Hebron vangpui ah David khaeah caeh moe, David mah anih hoi angmah ih kaminawk hanah buhraenghaih to sak pae.
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.
21 To naah Abner mah David khaeah, Israel kaminawk nang hoiah angkom o thaih moe, nihcae to na koeh baktiah na uk thai hanah, ka caeh moe, ka angraeng siangpahrang nang hanah, Israel kaminawk boih ahmuen maeto ah ka pakhueng han, tiah a naa. To pongah David mah Abner to patoeh, anih loe lunghoihta ah caeh.
Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires." David sent Abner away; and he left in peace.
22 To naah David ih kaminawk hoi Joab loe misa patomhaih ahmuen hoiah ang phak o; misa ban thung hoiah a lomh o ih paroeai hmuennawk to a sin o; toe Abner loe David khaeah Hebron vangpui ah om ai boeh; anih loe David mah longhoihta hoiah patoeh boeh pongah, Hebron vangpui hoiah tacawt boeh.
Look, the servants of David and Joab were returning from a raid, and brought in a great spoil with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he left in peace.
23 Joab hoi anih ih misatuh kaminawk boih phak o naah, Ner capa Abner loe siangpahrang khaeah angzoh moe, siangpahrang mah patoeh pongah, anih loe longhoihta hoiah caeh boeh, tiah thuih pae o.
When Joab and all the army who was with him had come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to David, and he has sent him away, and he left in peace."
24 To pongah Joab loe siangpahrang khaeah caeh moe, Tih hmuen maw na sak? Khenah, Abner nang khaeah angzoh boeh to mah, tih hanah nam laemsak ving loe? Anih loe poekmonghaih hoiah ni caeh boeh.
Then Joab came to the king, and said, "What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away? Now he has gone.
25 Ner capa Abner loe nang aling han ih ni angzoh, na kunhaih hoi na tacawthaih to khet moe, na sak ih hmuennawk boih khet han ih ni angzoh, tiah na panoek boeh, tiah a naa.
Don't you know the evil ways of Abner the son of Ner? He came to deceive you and to observe your movements and to learn everything that you are doing."
26 Joab loe David khae hoi tacawt moe, Abner hnukah laicaehnawk to patoeh; anih to Sirah tuipuek ohhaih ahmuen hoiah amlaem o haih let. Toe To tiah sak ih hmuen to David mah panoek ai.
When Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David did not know it.
27 Abner Hebron ah amlaem naah, ahmuen kalah ah lokthuih han ih baktih toengah, Joab mah anih to sipae khongkha taengah caeh haih; to ah phak naah amnawk Asahel ih athii tho lu lak hanah, Joab mah panak ah thunh, to tiah Abner to duek.
When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the abdomen, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 To pacoengah to hmuen kawng to David mah thaih naah, Ner capa Abner ih athii pongah kaimah hoi ka ukhaih prae loe Angraeng hmaa ah dungzan khoek to zaehaih om mak ai;
Afterward, when David heard it, he said, "I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD now and forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.
29 anih ih athii loe Joab lu nui hoi anih ampanawk ih imthung takoh boih nuiah krah nasoe; Joab ih imthung takoh loe ahlut nathaih tawn kami, to tih ai boeh loe ngansae man kami, to tih ai boeh loe cunghet hoi kacaeh kangkuu kami, to tih ai boeh loe sumsen hoiah dueh kami, to tih ai boeh loe zok amthlam tui anghaeh hoiah dueh kami ah om nasoe, tiah a naa.
May it whirl over the head of Joab, and on all his father's house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread."
30 Gibeon misa angtukhaih ahmuen ah amnawk Asahel to hum pae pongah, Joab hoi Abishai mah Abner to hum hoi.
So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31 To naah David mah Joab hoi a taengah kaom kaminawk boih khaeah, Kahni asik oh loe, kazii angzaeng o pacoengah, Abner to palungsae o haih ah, tiah a naa. David siangpahrang angmah doeh qokkung ah caeh.
David said to Joab, and to all the people who were with him, "Tear your clothes, and clothe yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner." And King David followed the coffin.
32 Abner loe Hebron vangpui ah aphum o; siangpahrang loe Abner ih taprong ah tha hoiah qah; kaminawk boih doeh qah o.
They buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33 Siangpahrang mah Abner hanah, Abner loe kamthu kami baktiah maw duek?
The king lamented for Abner, and said, "Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34 Na ban to taoeng o ai, na khok doeh thlong thuk o ai to mah, kawbangmaw kahoih ai kaminawk ban ah dueh kami baktiah, na duek halat? tiah a qah haih. To naah kaminawk boih mah anih to qah o haih let.
Your hands were not bound in chains, your feet were not put into fetters. As a man falls before the ruthless, so you fell." All the people wept again over him.
35 Kaminawk loe David khaeah angzoh o moe, khoving ai naah buhcaak hanah pathloep o; toe David mah, Niduem ai karoek to takaw maw, to tih ai boeh loe hmuen maeto maw, ka pataeng nahaeloe, kanung parai ah, Sithaw mah ka nuiah toksah nasoe, tiah lokkamhaih ka sak, tiah a naa.
Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down."
36 Kaminawk boih mah to lok to thaih o naah, anghoe o; kaminawk loe siangpahrang mah sak ih hmuennawk boih nuiah doeh anghoe o.
And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; just as everything the king did pleased the people.
37 To pongah to na niah siangpahrang mah, Ner capa Abner to hum ai, tiah kaminawk boih hoi Israel kaminawk boih mah panoek o.
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.
38 To naah siangpahrang mah angmah ih kaminawk khaeah, Vaihniah Israel prae ah, siangpahrang capa hoi lensawk kami maeto duek boeh, tiah na panoek o ai maw?
The king said to his servants, "Do you not realize that a leader and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
39 Vaihniah kai loe situi bawh ih siangpahrang ah ka oh, toe ka thazok; hae ih Zeruiah caanawk loe kai pongah thacak hoi kue; hmuen kasae sah kami loe a sak ih kasae hmuen baktih toengah Angraeng mah pathok nasoe, tiah a naa.
I am this day weak, though anointed king. And these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May the LORD reward the evildoer according to his wickedness."
