< 2 Samuel 20 >
1 To naah hmuen kasae sak koeh, Benjamin acaeng, Bikri capa Sheba loe to ahmuen ah oh. Anih mah mongkah to ueng moe, Aicae loe David khaeah taham a tawn o ai; Jesse capa ah qawktoep han om ai boeh; Aw Israel kaminawk, nangmacae im ah caeh o boih lai ah, tiah a naa.
And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name [was] Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew a trumpet, and said, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.
2 To pongah Israel kaminawk mah, David to caeh o taak boih, Bikri capa hnukah bang o boih. Toe Judah kaminawk loe, Jordan vapui hoi Jerusalem khoek to, angmacae siangpahrang khaeah oh o poe.
So every man of Israel went up from after David, [and] followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.
3 David mah angmah ih im Jerusalem ah amlaem naah, siangpahrang mah im khetzawn hanah caehtaak ih, zula hatonawk to kawk moe, imkhaan maeto ah suek; nihcae han caaknaek to paek; toe nihcae khaeah iip ai. Nihcae to duek khoek to paung caeng pongah, nihcae loe lamhmai baktiah oh o boih.
And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women [his] concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.
4 To pacoengah siangpahrang mah Amasa khaeah, Ni thumto thungah Judah kaminawk to pakhuengh loe, nangmah to doeh hae ah om ah, tiah a naa.
Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be thou here present.
5 To pongah Amasa loe Judah kaminawk pakhueng hanah caeh; toe siangpahrang mah khaeh ih atue pongah kasawkah akra.
So Amasa went to assemble [the men of] Judah: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
6 David mah Abishai khaeah, Bikri capa Sheba loe Absalom mah sak ih hmuen pongah kasae kue hmuen to sah tih; na angraeng ih kaminawk to kawkah loe, anih to patom ah; to tih ai nahaeloe sipae kacak thung ih vangpui thungah akun ueloe, ka ban thung hoiah loih moeng tih, tiah a naa.
And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than [did] Absalom: take thou thy lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us.
7 To pongah Joab ih kaminawk, Kereth kaminawk, Peleth kaminawk hoi thacak misatuh kaminawk loe, Bikri capa Sheba to patom hanah, Jerusalem vangpui hoiah tacawt o.
And there went out after him Joab’s men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
8 Gibeon vangpui ih thlung kalen ohhaih ahmuen phak o naah, Amasa loe nihcae hmaa ah caeh; Joab loe aphaw to angkhuk moe, a nuiah moihin kaengkaeh to angzaeng, to kaengkaeh nuiah haita tabu thungah haita to angnaeng.
When they [were] at the great stone which [is] in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. And Joab’s garment that he had put on was girded unto him, and upon it a girdle [with] a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.
9 Joab mah Amasa khaeah, Kamnawk, ngantui maw? tiah a naa. To naah Joab mah Amasa to mok han baktiah, bantang ban hoiah anih ih toektaboe mui to patawnh.
And Joab said to Amasa, [Art] thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.
10 Toe Joab loe haita sinh, tiah Amasa mah panoek ai; to naah Joab mah anih to zok ah thunh moe, tazaenawk long ah tacawt boih; Amasa loe thun let angai ai ah duek. To pacoengah Joab hoi amnawk Abishai mah Bikri capa Sheba to patom hoi.
But Amasa took no heed to the sword that [was] in Joab’s hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth [rib], and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
11 Amasa taengah angdoe Joab ih kami maeto mah, Joab koeh kami, David han angdoet koeh kaminawk boih to Joab hnukah bang o nasoe, tiah a naa.
And one of Joab’s men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that [is] for David, [let him go] after Joab.
12 Amasa loe loklam um ah athii thungah asawt khing vop. To naah to loklam ah angzo kaminawk boih hoi to ahmuen ah pha kaminawk boih loe, to ah angdoet o, tiah kami maeto mah hnuk naah, Amasa to loklam hoi taw bangah zaeh moe, kahni hoiah khuk khoep.
And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
13 Amasa to loklam hoi takhoe pacoengah ni, kaminawk boih mah Bikri capa Sheba to patom hanah, Joab hnukah caeh o vop.
When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
14 Sheba loe Abel vangpui, Beth-Maakah prae, Ber kaminawk hoi Israel acaengnawk boih khaeah caeh; to kaminawk loe nawnto amkhueng o moe, anih hnukah bang o.
And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
15 Joab kaminawk loe caeh o moe, Sheba ohhaih Beth-Maakah prae, Abel vangpui to takui o; vangpui tasa bang ih misa abuephaih sipae to phraek o; Joab hoi anih ih kaminawk loe sipae taengah kaom, misa abuephaih ahmuen to muk o moe, phraek o.
And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that [were] with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
16 To naah palungha nongpata maeto mah vangpui thung hoiah, Tahngai oh, tahngai oh, tiah Joab khaeah tahmenhaih hnik; nang khaeah lok kang thuih han, hae ah angzo ah, tiah a naa.
Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.
17 Joab loe to nongpata khaeah caeh, to naah nongpata mah, Nang loe Joab maw? tiah a naa. Anih mah, Ue, kai ni, tiah a naa. Nongpata mah anih khaeah, Na tamna mah thuih ih lok hae tahngai ah, tiah a naa. Anih mah, Ka tahngaih hmang, tiah a naa.
And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, [Art] thou Joab? And he answered, I [am he]. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
18 To naah nongpata mah, Canghnii ah loe, poekhaih kahoih hak na koeh naah, Abel vangpui ah caeh oh loe dueng oh, na hak o tih, tiah thuih ih lok to oh.
Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask [counsel] at Abel: and so they ended [the matter].
19 Kai loe angdaehhaih koeh kami, Israel thungah oepthok kami ah ka oh. Nang loe Israel prae thungah amno ah kaom sipae thung ih vangpui phraek hanah nam sak; tipongah Angraeng mah paek ih qawk to paaeh hanah na poek loe? tiah a naa.
I [am one of them that are] peaceable [and] faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?
20 Joab mah, Angthla nasoe, kai hoi angthla nasoe; paaeh han hoi phraek hanah ka poek ai.
And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.
21 To tiah sak han ih na ai ni; Ephraim mae nuiah kaom, Bikri capa Sheba loe David, siangpahrang ih lok to aek moe, ban phok thuih pongah, to kami to mah ka ban ah na paek oh; to tih nahaeloe vangpui hae ka caeh o taak duem han, tiah a naa. Nongpata mah Joab khaeah, Khenah, anih ih lu to sipae nui hoiah na va o tih hmang, tiah a naa.
The matter [is] not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, [even] against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
22 To pacoengah nongpata loe palunghahaih hoiah kaminawk boih khaeah caeh. Kaminawk mah Bikri capa ih lu to takroek o pat moe, Joab khaeah vah pae o. To pongah anih mah mongkah to ueng, angmah ih kaminawk vangpui thung hoi angnawnsak moe, angmacae im ah amlaem o. Joab doeh Jerusalem ah siangpahrang khaeah amlaem toeng.
Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast [it] out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.
23 Joab loe Israel misatuh kaminawk boih ukkung ah oh; Jehoiada capa Benaiah loe Kereth hoi Pereth kaminawk ukkung ah oh;
Now Joab [was] over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:
24 Adoram loe tamut kokhaih khenzawnkung ah oh; Ahilud capa Jehosaphat loe ca tarikkung ah oh.
And Adoram [was] over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud [was] recorder:
25 Sheva loe ca tarikkung ah oh; Zadok hoi Abiathar loe qaima ah oh hoi.
And Sheva [was] scribe: and Zadok and Abiathar [were] the priests:
26 Jair vangpui ih kami Ira loe, David ih im khenzawnkung ah ah oh.
And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David.
