< 2 Samuel 12 >
1 Angraeng mah Nathan to David khaeah patoeh; David khaeah caeh moe, anih khaeah, Vangpui thungah kami hnetto oh, maeto loe angraeng moe, maeto loe amtang.
So Jehovah sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him, "Tell me how you judge this case. There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor.
2 Angraeng kami loe tuu hoi maitaw paroeai tawnh;
The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3 toe kamtang kami loe minawk khaeah qan ih tuu tala maeto khue ai ah loe kalah tidoeh tawn ai; to tuu to anih mah pacah, tuu loe a caanawk hoi nawnto qoeng o tahang; tuu loe pacahkung ih buh to caak moe, anih mah naek ih tui to naek toeng; pacahkung ih ban ah iih pongah, canu baktiah a khet.
but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had acquired. And he raised it and it grew up alongside him and his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and sleep in his arms, and it was like a daughter to him.
4 Angvin maeto angraeng im ah angzoh, toe angraeng loe angvin pacah hanah angmah ih tuu hoi maitawnawk to paawt pongah, kamtang kami ih tuu caa to lak pae moe, angmah khaeah angzo vangvin caak hanah boh pae, tiah a naa.
Now a traveler came to the rich man, but he was unwilling to take from his own flock or his own herd to prepare for the traveler who had come to him, but took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him."
5 To naah David loe to tiah kaom kami nuiah paroeai palungphui moe, Nathan khaeah, Angraeng loe hing baktih toengah, to baktih hmuen sah kami loe duek han oh!
Then David became very angry with that man, and he said to Nathan, "As Jehovah lives, the man who has done this deserves death.
6 Tahmenhaih tawn ai ah to baktih hmuen to a sak pongah, tuu caa alet palito laemsak han oh, tiah a naa.
He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity."
7 To naah Nathan mah David khaeah, To kami loe nang ni! Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah, Israel nuiah siangpahrang ah situi kang bawh moe, Saul ban thung hoiah kang pahlong;
Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man. This is what Jehovah, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8 na angraeng ih im to nang hanah kang paek, na angraeng ih zunawk to na ban ah kang paek, Israel hoi Judah imthung takoh to kang paek; hae hmuen hae zetta, tiah na poek nahaeloe, to baktih kalah hmuennawk doeh kang paek let bae han vop, tiah thuih.
I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your care, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9 Tipongah a mikhnukah kahoih ai hmuen na sak moe, Angrang mah paek ih lok na patoek loe? Sumsen hoiah Hit acaeng Uriah to na hum moe, a zu to na lomh pae; Ammon kaminawk ih sumsen hoiah anih to na hum.
Why have you despised Jehovah, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hethite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the people of Ammon.
10 Ka lok tidoeh na sah ai moe, Hit kami Uriah ih zu to na lomh pongah, sumsen mah vaihi na imthung takoh to caehtaak mak ai boeh.
Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hethite to be your wife.'
11 Angraeng mah, Khenah, na imthung takoh thung hoiah sethaih ka tacawtsak han; na mikhnukah na zunawk to ka lak moe, na imtaeng kami khaeah ka paek han; anih mah na zunawk to khodai ah iip haih tih.
"This is what Jehovah says: 'Look, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12 Nang mah hae hmuen hae tamquta hoiah na sak, toe kaimah loe to hmuen to Israel kaminawk boih mikhnukah, khodai ah ka sak han, tiah thuih, tiah a naa.
For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'"
13 To naah David mah Nathan khaeah, Angraeng hmaa ah ka zae moeng boeh, tiah a naa. To naah Nathan mah, Angraeng mah na zaehaih lak ving boeh pongah, na dueh mak ai.
David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against Jehovah." Nathan said to David, "Jehovah also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14 Toe hae tiah na sak ih hmuen mah, Angraeng ih misanawk hanah kasaethuihaih loklam na paek pongah, na sak ih na caa loe dueh tih, tiah a naa.
However, because by this deed you have shown utter contempt for Jehovah, the child also who is born to you shall surely die."
15 Nathan loe anih im hoiah tacawt. Uriah zu mah David hanah sak pae ih, a capa to Angraeng mah boh pongah, nawkta loe ngannat nung parai.
Then Nathan went to his home. And God struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it was very sick.
16 To pongah David mah nawkta han Sithaw khaeah tahmenhaih hnik; David loe imthung ah caeh moe, buhzah; aqum puek long ah angsong.
Then David sought from God on behalf of the child. And David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.
17 A imthung ih kacoehtanawk mah, anih to pathawk hanah, ataeng ah caeh o; toe anih mah angmak pae; nihcae hoi buh nawnto caa pae ai.
And the elders of his house approached him to lift him up from the ground, but he was unwilling, and he would not eat food with them.
18 Ni sarihto naah loe nawkta to duek; David ih tamnanawk mah anih khaeah nawkta loe duek boeh, tiah thuih pae hanah zit o; nihcae mah, Khenah, nawkta hing nathuem ah mataeng doeh, anih khaeah thuih pae ih lok to anih mah tahngai han koeh ai; nawkta loe duek ving boeh, tiah thui pae o nahaeloe, angmah hoi angmah to zit kaom hmuen sah lat moeng doeh om tih, tiah a thuih o.
It happened on the seventh day, that the child died. The servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, "Look, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he did not listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?"
19 A tamnanawk mah tamquta hoiah thuih o ih lok to David mah hnuk naah, nawkta loe duek boeh, tiah panoek. To pongah David mah a tamnanawk khaeah, nawkta loe duek boeh maw? tiah a dueng. Nihcae mah, Ue, nawkta loe duek ving boeh, tiah a naa o.
But when David noticed that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, "Is the child dead?" They said, "He is dead."
20 To naah David loe long hoiah angthawk, tui amthluk moe, hmuihoih tui to angnok; khukbuen to angkraih moe, Angraeng imthung ah caeh pacoengah, Angraeng to bok; to pacoengah angmah im ah caeh moe, buhcaak hanah a hnik; a tamnanawk mah caaknaek to patoem pae o moe, a caak.
Then David arose from the ground, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the house of Jehovah, and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and he asked for bread to eat. And they set bread before him, and he ate.
21 A tamnanawk mah, Tikhoe hae tiah na oh loe? Nawkta hing nathung ah buh na zah moe, na qah; nawkta duek naah loe, nang thawk moe, buh aan to na caak lat, tiah a naa o.
Then his servants said to him, "What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept and kept vigil for the child while he was alive; but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread."
22 Anih mah, Nawkta hing let thai hanah, Sithaw mah kai na tahmen tih maw, tahmen mak ai, tiah mi mah doeh panoek ai, to pongah nawkta hing nathung ah buh ka zah moe, ka qah, tiah a naa.
He said, "While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, 'Who knows whether Jehovah will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?'
23 Toe vaihi nawkta loe duek boeh; tih han ih buh ka zah han vop loe? Anih to ka hingsak let thai tih maw? Anih khaeah ni kai ka caeh han; toe anih loe kai khaeah amlaem let mak ai boeh, tiah a naa.
But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me."
24 To naah David mah a zu Bethsheba to pathloep; to pacoengah ataeng ah caeh moe, a iih haih; anih mah capa maeto sak pae let; anih ih ahmin to Solomon, tiah sak. Anih loe Angraeng mah palung.
David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Jehovah loved him;
25 Angraeng mah anih to palung pongah, Jedidiah, tiah ahminphui hanah tahmaa Nathan khaeah lokpaek.
and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he named him Jedidiah, for Jehovah's sake.
26 To naah Joab mah Ammon kaminawk ih Rabbah vangpui to tuk moe, siangpahrang ohhaih vangpui to lak.
Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the people of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 To naah Joab mah David khaeah laicaeh patoeh moe, Rabbah vangpui to ka tuk pacoengah, vangpui mah caak ih tui to ka lak boeh.
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, "I have fought against Rabbah, and have also taken the water supply of the city.
28 To pongah vaihi anghmat kaminawk to kok ah, vangpui to tuh loe, laa ah; to tih ai nahaeloe, vangpui to ka lak moe, kaimah ih ahmin ka sak han boeh, tiah a naa.
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and besiege the city and capture it yourself, or I will capture the city, and it will be named after me."
29 To pongah David mah kaminawk boih to kok moe, Rabbah vangpui tuk hanah caeh moe, a lak.
David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30 Nihcae siangpahrang lu nui ih angraeng lumuek to lak pae o moe, David lu nuiah angmuek o sak; vangpui thung ih paroeai hmuennawk to lak pae o.
He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David's head. He brought out the spoil of the city, a very great amount.
31 To ah kaom kaminawk to caeh haih moe, sarang hoi sak han koi kaom tok, cakaa hoi sak han koi kaom tok, sum aahhaih bang ih toknawk to a paek moe, amlai long sakhaih ahmuen ah toksaksak. Vangpui ih kaom Ammon kaminawk boih to tiah tok saksak. To pacoengah David hoi angmah ih kaminawk boih Jerusalem ah amlaem o.
He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws, and iron picks, and iron axes, and to labor at the brick kiln. And he did the same to all the cities of the people of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
