< 2 Samuel 10 >

1 To nathuem ah Ammon kaminawk ih siangpahrang to duek, anih zuengah a capa Hanun to siangpahrang ah oh.
After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
2 David siangpahrang mah anih ih ampa loe ka nuiah tahmenhaih tawnh pongah, Nahash capa Hanun nuiah tahmenhaih ka tawnh toeng han angaih, tiah poek. Ampa duek pongah anih khaeah tahmenhaih amtuengsak hanah, a tamnanawk to patoeh. David ih tamnanawk Ammon prae thungah phak o.
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3 To naah Ammon acaeng angraengnawk mah angmacae angraeng Hanun khaeah, David mah nampa duek pongah na nuiah tahmenhaih amtuengsak han ih ni a tamnanawk to patoeh, tiah na poek maw? Tamquta hoiah vangpui to khet moe, paro han ih na ai maw David mah a tamnanawk to patoeh, tiah a naa o.
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David honours your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”
4 To pongah Hanun mah David ih kaminawk to naeh moe, toektaboe mui ahap aah pae o, khukbuen to laetabu khoek to aah pae pacoengah, patoeh ving.
So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 To kawng to David khaeah thuih pae o naah, nihcae to paroeai azatpawsak pongah, nihcae tongh hanah kaminawk to patoeh; siangpahrang mah toektaboe mui tacawt ai karoek to Jeriko vangpui ah om o raeh, to pacoengah amlaem oh, tiah a naa.
When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 Nihcae loe David han hmuisae ah ni oh o boeh, tiah Ammon kaminawk mah panoek o naah, Beth-Rehob vangpui hoi Zobah ih misatuh Syria kami sang pumphaeto tlai o; to pacoengah Makah siangpahrang ih misatuh kami sangto hoi Tob vangpui ih kami sang hatlaihnetto doeh tlai o let bae vop.
When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
7 To tamthang to a thaih o naah, David mah Joab hoi misatuh kaminawk boih to patoeh.
When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
8 Ammon kaminawk loe misatuk hanah, angmacae vangpui khongkha ah atai o; to naah Zobah, Rehob hoi Tob vangpui ih Syria misatuh kaminawk hoi Makah siangpahrang ih kaminawk doeh angmacae koehah azawn ah amkhueng o.
The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.
9 Misanawk ahnuk ahmaa oh o boeh, tiah Joab mah hnuk naah, Israel thungah kahoih koek misatuh kaminawk to qoih moe, Syria kaminawk to tuksak;
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.
10 kalah misatuh kaminawk boih loe amnawk misatuh angraeng Abishai ban ah suek moe, Ammon kaminawk to tuksak.
The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11 Joab mah, Syria kaminawk loe kai hanah thacak o hmoek nahaeloe, kai abomh hanah angzo ah; toe Ammon kaminawk loe nang hanah thacak o hmoek nahaeloe, nang to kang bomh han hmang.
He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
12 Thacaksak loe, aimacae kami hoi aimacae Sithaw ih vangpui hanah misahoihaih hoiah tuh o si; a mikhnukah hoih tih baktih toengah, Angraeng mah sah tih hmang, tiah a naa.
Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God; and may the LORD do what seems good to him.”
13 To pacoengah Joab hoi a taengah kaom misatuh kaminawk loe, Syria misatuh kaminawk to tuk hanah caeh o; to naah nihcae ih misanawk loe anih hmaa ah cawnh o.
So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.
14 Syrianawk loe cawnh o boeh, tiah Ammon kaminawk mah hnuk o naah, nihcae doeh Abishai hmaa hoiah cawnh o moe, vangpui thungah akun o. To pongah Joab doeh Ammon prae hoiah amlaem moe, Jerusalem ah caeh.
When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.
15 Israel kaminawk mah pazawk boeh, tiah Syrianawk mah panoek o naah, nihcae loe nawnto amkhueng o let.
When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16 Hadadezer mah vapui yaeh ih Syria kaminawk to kawk moe, Helam vangpui ah caehsak; Hadadezer ih misatuh angraeng Shobek mah nihcae to caeh haih.
Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
17 To lok to David khaeah thuih pae o naah, Israel kaminawk to nawnto pakhueng pacoengah, Jordan vapui to angkat o moe, Helam vangpui ah caeh o; Syria kaminawk loe angphaeng o moe, David to tuk o.
David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought with him.
18 Toe Syria kaminawk loe Israel kaminawk hmaa ah cawnh o; David mah hrang lakok nuiah angthueng kami cumvai sarihto, khok hoi misatuh kami sang quipalito hum pae. Nihcae ih misatuh angraeng Shobek doeh hum o moe, to ah duek.
The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.
19 Israel kaminawk mah Hadadezer to pazawk boeh, tiah Hadadezer ih angraengnawk mah hnuk o naah, Israel kaminawk hoiah angdaehhaih to sak o moe, nihcae hanah tamna tok to sak pae o; to pongah Syrianawk mah Ammon kaminawk abomh hanah zit o boeh.
When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.
