1 Tahmaa Elisha mah tahmaanawk thung ih kami maeto kawk moe, anih khaeah, Kazii angzaeng ah, hae ih situi tabu hae sin ah loe, Ramoth Gilead ah caeh ah, tiah a naa.
Meanwhile, the prophet Elisha summoned one of the other prophets. He said to him, “Get ready [IDM] and go to Ramoth [city] in [the] Gilead [region]. Take this jar of [olive] oil with you.
2 Na phak naah, Nimshi capa Jehosaphat, Jehosaphat capa Jehu to pakrong ah; anih khae caeh ah, angmah ih nawkamyanawk salak hoiah anih to pathawk loe, imkhaan thungah caeh haih ah.
When you arrive there, search for a man named Jehu, the son of Jehoshaphat and grandson of Nimshi. Go with him into a room away from his companions,
3 To pacoengah situi tabu to lah loe, a lu ah bawh pacoengah, Angraeng mah, Israel siangpahrang ah oh hanah situi kang bawh, tiah thui ah, to pacoengah thok to paongh loe anghak ai ah cawn ah, tiah a naa.
and pour [some of] this oil on his head. Then say to him, ‘Yahweh declares that he is appointing you to be the king of Israel.’ Then open the door and run away as quickly as you can.”
4 To pongah tahmaa ih kami thendoeng loe Ramoth-Gilead ah caeh.
So the young prophet went to Ramoth.
5 To ahmuen to a phak naah, nawnto anghnu misatuh angraengnawk to a hnuk; Aw misatuh angraeng, misatuh angraeng, nang khaeah thuih han koi hmuen ka tawnh, tiah a naa. To naah Jehu mah, kaicae thungah mi khaeah maw lokthuih han na tawnh? tiah a naa. To naah anih mah, Aw misatuh angraeng, nang khaeah lokthuih han ka tawnh, tiah a naa.
When he arrived, he saw that the commanders of the army were having a conference. He [looked at Jehu and] said, “Sir, I have a message for [one of] you.” Jehu replied, “Which one of us is the message for?” The young prophet replied, “It is for you, commander/sir.”
6 Anih loe angthawk moe, imthung ah caeh; tahmaa mah Jehu ih lu ah situi to bawh moe, anih khaeah, Israel Angraeng Sithaw mah, Angraeng ih Israel kaminawk nuiah siangpahrang ah oh hanah situi kang bawh boeh, tiah thuih.
So Jehu got up and went with the young prophet into a house. There the young prophet poured some [olive] oil on Jehu’s head and said to him, “Yahweh, the God whom we Israelis [worship], declares this: ‘I am appointing you to be the king of my Israeli people.
7 Ka tamna tahmaanawk humhaih, Sithaw ih tahmaanawk athii palonghaih atho Jezebel khaeah lu ka lak thai hanah, na angraeng Ahab ih imthung takoh to na hum tih.
You must kill your master [King Joram], the son of Ahab, because I want to punish [Ahab’s wife] Jezebel for murdering [MTY] many of my prophets and other people who served me.
8 Ahab ih imthung takoh amrosak boih hanah, Israel prae thungah misong ah kaom kami maw, kaloih kami maw, Ahab ih acaeng nongpanawk to ka tamit boih han boeh;
You must kill [not only Joram but] all of Ahab’s family. I want to get rid of every male in the family, including young ones and old ones.
9 Nebat capa Jeroboam imthung takoh baktih toengah, Ahab imthung takoh to ka sak han;
I will get rid of Ahab’s family, like I got rid of the families of two other kings of Israel, Jeroboam and Baasha.
10 Jezebel aphum kami om mak ai, anih loe Jezreel ahmuen ah uinawk mah caa o tih, tiah thuih ih lok to thuih pacoengah, thok paongh moe, a cawnh.
And [when] Jezebel [dies], her corpse will not be buried. Dogs will eat her corpse there in Jezreel [city].’” After the young prophet said this, he left the room and ran.
11 To pacoengah Jehu loe angmah angraeng ih tamnanawk khaeah caeh, kami maeto mah anih khaeah, Tamthang hoih hmang maw? To kami kamthu loe nang khaeah timaw sak? tiah lokdueng. Jehu mah nihcae khaeah, To kami loe na panoek o moe, a thuih ih lok doeh na panoek o boeh to loe, tiah a naa.
When Jehu came out of the room to where his other commanders were, they said to him, “Is everything all right? Why did that mad fellow come to you?” He replied, “You know what kinds of things young prophets like him say.”
12 Nihcae mah, Ka panoek o ai, na thui ah, tiah a naa o. Jehu mah, Anih mah, Angraeng mah, Nang hae Israel siangpahrang ah situi kang bawh, tiah thuih, tiah ang naa, tiah a thuih pae.
They said, “You are lying! Tell us what he said!” He replied, “He told me that Yahweh said, ‘I am appointing [MTY] you to be the king of Israel.’”
13 To pacoengah nihcae loe karangah angthawk o moe, angmacae ih khukbuen to lak o; Jehu tlim ih thlak nuiah baih pae o moe, Jehu loe siangpahrang ni! tiah mongkah ueng hoiah a hang o.
Then they all spread their cloaks on the steps of the building [for Jehu to walk out on], and they blew trumpets and shouted, “Jehu is now the king!”
14 To pongah Nimshi capa Jehosaphat, Jehosaphat ih capa Jehu mah Joram nuiah kasae sak hanah pacaeng. Syria siangpahrang Hazael pongah, Joram hoi Israel kaminawk loe, Gilead prae ih Ramoth vangpui to toep o.
King Joram and his army had been defending Ramoth against the attacks by the army of the king of Syria. King Joram had returned to Jezreel [city], to recover from being wounded in the battle against the army of Hazael, the king of Syria. And Jehu made plans to kill Joram. He said to his other commanders, “If helping me is truly what you want, make sure that no one leaves this city to go to warn the people of Jezreel [about what I am planning to do].”
15 Toe Syria siangpahrang Hazael hoi misa angtuk naah, Syria kaminawk mah Joram to ahmaa caak o sak pongah, anih loe ahmaa khetzawn hanah Jezreel ah amlaem let. Jehu mah, Siangpahrang ah ka oh hanah hae tiah poekhaih na tawnh o nahaeloe, tamthang thui kami maeto doeh vangpui thung hoi tacawt o sak hmah, Jezreel vangpui ah caeh o ueloe, tamthang to thui o moeng tih, tiah a naa.
16 To pacoengah Jehu loe angmah ih hrang lakok pongah angthueng moe, Jezreel ah caeh; Joram loe to vangpui ah oh pongah, Judah siangpahrang Ahaziah loe anih pahip hanah, to vangpui ah caeh tathuk.
Then Jehu and his officers got into their chariots and rode to Jezreel, where Joram was still recovering. And King Ahaziah of Judah was there, visiting Joram.
17 Kangzo Jehu hoi anih ih misatuh kaminawk to, Jezreel vangpui ih misatoep kami hnuk o naah, paroeai pop misatuh kaminawk angzoh o, tiah hangh. To naah Joram mah, Nihcae to tongh moe, monghaih hoiah maw nang zoh o? tiah lokdueng hanah hrang angthueng kami maeto patoeh ah, tiah a naa.
A guard was standing in the watchtower in Jezreel. He saw Jehu and his men approaching. He called out, “I see a lot of men [who are approaching]!” King Joram [heard what the watchman said, so he] said to his soldiers, “Send someone on a horse to go and find out if they are coming to be friendly to us or to attack us.”
18 To pongah hrang angthueng kami maeto loe anih tongh hanah caeh, siangpahrang mah, Monghaih oh hmang maw? tiah lok ang duengsak, tiah a thuih a naa. Jehu mah, Monghaih oh hmang maw, tiah thuih hanah nang hoi timaw asaenghaih oh? Angqoi ah loe ka hnukah na bangah, tiah a naa. Misatoep kami mah, Tamthang thui laicaeh loe nihcae khaeah caeh, toe anih loe amlaem let ai boeh, tiah a naa.
So a man rode out to meet Jehu and said to him, “The king wants to know [if you are coming to be] friendly to us.” Jehu replied, “This is not the time for you [RHQ] to be concerned about acting friendly! Turn around and come behind me!” So the guard in the watchtower reported that the messenger had reached the group [that was approaching], but that he was not returning [alone].
19 To pacoengah siangpahrang mah vai hnetto haih hrang angthueng kami to patoeh let; nihcae khaeah a phak naah, siangpahrang mah, Misa monghaih oh hmang maw? tiah a thuih, tiah a naa. Jehu mah, Monghaih oh hmang maw, tiah thuih hanah nang hoi asaenghaih timaw oh? Angqoi ah loe ka hnukah na bangah, tiah a naa.
So King Joram sent another messenger, who asked Jehu the same question. Again Jehu replied, “This is not the time [RHQ] for you to be concerned about acting friendly! Turn around and follow me!”
20 Misatoep kami mah, Tamthang thui kami loe nihcae khaeah caeh, toe anih loe amlaem let ai boeh; hrang lakok mongh kami loe Nimshi capa Jehu hoiah anghmongh, anih loe kamthu baktiah a mongh, tiah a naa.
Then the watchman reported again, “That messenger also reached them, but he is not coming back [alone]. And [the leader of the group must be] Jehu, the son of Nimshi, because he is driving [his chariot] furiously, [like Jehu does]!”
21 Joram mah kaimah ih hrang lakok to suem o coek ah, tiah lokpaek; to pongah anih ih hrang lakok to suek pae o coek. Israel siangpahrang Joram hoi Judah siangpahrang Ahaziah loe angma hnik ih hrang lakok to angthueng hoi moe, tasa bangah a caeh hoi; nihnik loe Jehu hnuk hanah a caeh hoi moe, anih to Jezreel acaeng Naboth ih lawk ahmuen ah a hnuk hoi.
Joram said [to his soldiers], “Get [my chariot] ready!” So they did that. Then King Joram and King Ahaziah both rode toward Jehu, each one in his own chariot. And [it happened that] they met Jehu at the field that had previously belonged to Naboth!
22 Joram mah Jehu to hnuk naah, Jehu, Monghaih oh hmang maw? tiah a naa. Jehu mah, Nam no Jezebel mah sak ih tangzat zawhhaih hoi paroeai pop miklet patohhaih thung hoiah kawbangmaw monghaih om thai tih? tiah a naa.
When Joram met Jehu, he said to him, “Are you coming on a peaceful visit?” Jehu replied, “(How can there be peace while you and your people are prostrating themselves to worship idols and practicing very much (witchcraft/sorcery) like your mother Jezebel did?/There certainly cannot be peace while you and your people are prostrating themselves to worship idols and practicing (witchcraft/sorcery) like your mother Jezebel has been doing!)” [RHQ]
23 Joram mah Ahaziah khaeah, Aw Ahaziah qumqaihaih oh, tiah thuih pacoengah, a ban angqoi moe, a cawnh ving.
Joram cried out, “Ahaziah, they have deceived us! [They want to kill us]!” So Joram turned his chariot around and tried to flee.
24 Jehu mah tha hoiah palaa to azuh moe, Joram to palaeng salakah kah, palaa mah palung to kah puet pongah, hrang lakok nui hoiah sangku tathuk hmawk.
But Jehu drew his bow mightily and shot [an arrow that pierced] Joram between his shoulder blades. The arrow [went through his body and] pierced his heart, and he slumped down dead in his chariot.
25 Jehu mah angmah ih misatuh angraeng Bidkar khaeah, Anih to ruet ah loe Jezreel kami Naboth ih lawk ah va sut ah, tiah a naa. Joram ampa Ahab hnukah hrang angthueng moe, a bang hoi naah, anih hanah Angraeng mah thuih ih lok to panoek ah;
Then Jehu said to his assistant Bidkar, “Take his corpse and throw it here into the field that belonged to Naboth. [I am sure that] you remember that when you and I were riding together [in chariots] behind King Joram’s father Ahab, that Yahweh said this about Ahab:
26 Angraeng mah, Cangduem ah Naboth hoi a caanawk ih athii to ka hnuk, tiah thuih; Angraeng mah hae ih lawk hmuen ah lu la let tih, tiah thuih. To pongah Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, vaihi anih ih qok to lah loe, hae ih lawk ahmuen ah va sut ah, tiah a naa.
‘Yesterday I saw Ahab murder [MTY] Naboth and his sons here. And I solemnly promise that I will punish him right here in this same field!’ So take Joram’s corpse and throw it into that field! That will fulfill what Yahweh said would happen.”
27 Toe Judah siangpahrang Ahaziah mah to tiah kaom hmuen to hnuk naah, takha loklam bang hoiah cawnh ving; Jehu mah anih to patom, anih doeh hrang lakok nuiah hum oh, tiah a naa. Ibleam taeng ih, Gur vangpui bang caehhaih loklam ah anih to ahmaa caak o sak; toe anih loe Meggiddo bangah cawnh moe, to ah duek.
When King Ahaziah saw what happened, he fled [in his chariot] toward Beth-Haggan [town]. But Jehu pursued him and said [to his other commanders], “Shoot him, also!” So they shot him [with arrows] while he was riding in his chariot on the road up to Gur, near Ibleam [town]. He continued going in his chariot until he reached Megiddo [city], where he died.
28 A tamnanawk mah anih to hrang lakok hoiah Jerusalem ah caeh o haih moe, David vangpui angmah ih taprong ah aphum o.
His officials took his corpse back to Jerusalem and buried it in the tombs in the [part of Jerusalem called] ‘The City of David’, where his ancestors had been buried.
29 Ahab capa Joram siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning hatlaito haih naah, Ahaziah loe Judah siangpahrang ah oh.
Ahaziah had become the king of Judah when Joram had been ruling Israel for almost eleven years.
30 Jehu loe Jezereel ah caeh ti, tiah Jezebel mah thaih; anih loe amthoephaih tasi hoiah a mik to pathoep het, sam to kahoih ah a sok suidik pacoengah, thokbuem hoiah tasa bangah a danh.
Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When [Ahab’s widow] Jezebel heard what had happened, she put paint/makeup on her eyelids, and combed her hair to make it beautiful, and looked out the window [of the palace toward the street below].
31 Jehu khongkha thungah akun naah, Jezebel mah, Angmah ih angraeng humkung, Zimri loe, ngantui hmang maw? tiah a naa.
While Jehu was entering the city gate, she called out to him, “You [are like] Zimri! You are a murderer! [I think] you are certainly not [RHQ] coming on a peaceful visit!”
32 Jehu loe thokbuem bangah khet tahang moe, Kai bangah kaom kami to ah oh maw? Mi maw kaom? tiah a hangh. To naah tangyat mii kadueh kami hnetto maw, to tih ai boeh loe thumto mah maw anih to khet o.
Jehu looked up toward the window, and then he said, “Who is (on my side/wants to help me)? Anyone?” Two or three palace officials looked down at him [from a window and pointed to themselves].
33 Jehu mah, To nongpata to na va o tathuk ah, tiah a naa. To pongah nihcae mah to nongpata to vah o tathuk. Anih ih athii loe sipae hoi hrang nuiah tacawn; Jehu mah to nongpata to long ah khok hoiah atit.
Jehu said to them, “Throw her down here!” So they threw her down, and [when she hit the ground and died], some of her blood splattered on the city wall and on the horses [that were pulling the chariots].
34 Jehu loe athung ah akun, anih mah naekcaak pacoengah, vaihi caeh oh loe, tangoeng ih nongpata to khen oh; anih loe siangpahrang canu ah oh pongah, aphum oh, tiah a naa.
Then Jehu went into the palace and ate and drank. Then he said [to some of his men], “Take the corpse of that women whom Yahweh has cursed and bury it, because she is a king’s daughter [and therefore should be buried properly].”
35 Nihcae mah nongpata ih qok aphum hanah caeh o naah, anih ih luhuh, a khok hoi a banpadae khue ni a hnuk o.
But when they went to get her corpse to bury it, all that was left was only her skull and [the bones of] her feet and her hands. Everything else was gone.
36 To pongah nihcae loe amlaem o let moe, Jehu khaeah thuih pae o. To naah Jehu mah, Jezereel kami ih lawk hmuen ah uinawk mah Jezebel ih qok to caa tih, tiah Angraeng mah a tamna Tishbeh acaeng Elijah khaeah thuih ih lok to akoep boeh:
When they reported this to Jehu, he said, “That is what Yahweh said would happen! He told his servant/prophet Elijah, ‘In [the city of] Jezreel, dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel’s corpse.
37 to pongah, Hae loe Jezebel ih taprong ni, tiah mi mah doeh thui o mak ai; anih ih qok loe Jezreel kami ih lawkhmuen azawn ah aek baktih ni om sut tih, tiah a naa.
Her bones will be scattered there in Jezreel like dung, with the result that no one will be able to [recognize them and] say, “These are Jezebel’s bones.”’”
