< 2 Siangpahrang 18 >
1 Israel siangpahrang Elah capa Hoshea saning thumto haih naah, Judah siangpahrang Ahaz capa Hezekiah to siangpahrang ah oh amtong.
Now in the third year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz, became king of Judah.
2 Siangpahrang ah oh naah anih loe saning pumphae pangato oh boeh; Jerusalem ah saning pumphae takawtto thung siangpahrang ah oh. Amno ih ahmin loe Zekariah canu Abi.
He was twenty-five years old when he became king, ruling in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years; his mother's name was Abi, the daughter of Zechariah.
3 Ampa David mah sak ih hmuen baktih toengah, anih loe Angraeng mikhnukah hmuen kahoih to sak.
He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord as David his father had done.
4 Anih loe hmuensangnawk, krangnawk to vah boih moe, Asherah thingnawk to pakhruk; canghniah Israel kaminawk mah hmuihoih thlaek haih, Mosi mah sum kamling hoiah sak ih, Nehushtan, tiah ahmin kaom pahui krang to boh phaeng.
He had the high places taken away, and the stone pillars broken to bits, and the Asherah cut down; and the brass snake which Moses had made was crushed to powder at his order, because in those days the children of Israel had offerings burned before it, and he gave it the name Nehushtan.
5 Hezekiah loe Israel Angraeng Sithaw to oep baktih toengah, anih pacoengah, anih hmaa ah, anih baktih kaom Judah siangpahrang mi doeh om ai.
He had faith in the Lord, the God of Israel; so that there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah who were before him.
6 Anih loe Angraeng to kacakah patawnh, caehtaak ai, anih hnukah bang poe; Angraeng mah Mosi khaeah paek ih lokpaekhaih to pazui.
For his heart was fixed on the Lord, not turning from his ways, and he did his orders which the Lord gave to Moses.
7 Angraeng mah anih to oh thuih moe, a sak ih hmuennawk boih ah athaih taaksak; Assyria siangpahrang to misa ah a suek, anih ih toksak hanah angmak pae.
And the Lord was with him; he did well in all his undertakings: and he took up arms against the king of Assyria and was his servant no longer.
8 Philistinnawk to misa a tuk, Gaza vangpui ramri, misatoephaih imsang hoi sipae thungh ih vangpui khoek to praenawk to a lak.
He overcame the Philistines as far as Gaza and its limits, from the tower of the watchman to the walled town.
9 Hezekiah siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning palito, Israel siangpahrang Elah capa Hoshea siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning sarihto haih naah, Assyria siangpahrang Shalmaneser loe Samaria vangpui ah caeh moe, takui khoep.
Now in the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, came up against Samaria, shutting it in with his armies.
10 Saning thumto boenghaih saning, Hezekiah siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning tarukto haih, Israel siangpahrang saning takawtto haih naah, Assyria kaminawk mah Samaria vangpui to lak o.
And at the end of three years they took it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah's rule, which was the ninth year of Hoshea, king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11 Assyria siangpahrang mah Israel kaminawk to, Assyria prae thungah misong ah hoih moe, Gozan vapui taeng, Medes prae ih Halah hoi Habor vangpui ah ohsak.
And the king of Assyria took Israel away as prisoners into Assyria, placing them in Halah and in Habor on the river Gozan, and in the towns of the Medes;
12 Nihcae loe angmacae Angraeng Sithaw ih lok to tahngai o ai; a lokmaihaihnawk hoi Angraeng ih tamna Mosi mah paek ih loknawk boih to tahngai o ai moe, sah doeh sah o ai.
Because they did not give ear to the voice of the Lord their God, but went against his agreement, even against everything ordered by Moses, the servant of the Lord, and they did not give ear to it or do it.
13 Hezekiah siangpahrang ah ohhaih saning hatlaipalito naah, Assyria siangpahrang Sennakerib mah sipae thungh ih Judah vangpuinawk boih to tuk moe, lak.
Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the walled towns of Judah and took them.
14 Judah siangpahrang Hezekiah mah, Lakish ah Assyria siangpahrang khaeah, Hmuen ka sakpazae moeng boeh; kai hae na caehtaak halat ah; nang hnik sarui kang paek han hmang, tiah a naa. Assyria siangpahrang mah Judah siangpahrang khaeah, phoisa talent cumvai thumto hoi sui talent quithumto hnik.
And Hezekiah, king of Judah, sent to Lachish, to the king of Assyria, saying, I have done wrong; give up attacking me, and whatever you put on me I will undergo. And the payment he was to make was fixed by the king of Assyria at three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15 To pongah Hezekiah mah Angraeng ih im hoi siangpahrang im ah suek ih phoisa to paek boih.
So Hezekiah gave him all the silver in the house of the Lord, and in the king's store-house.
16 Judah siangpahrang Hezekiah mah Angraeng tempul ih sui hoi pazut ih thok hoi thok tungnawk pong ih sui to khok moe, Assyria siangpahrang hanah paek.
And at that time Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of the Lord's house, and from the door-pillars plated by him, cut off and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 Assyria siangpahrang mah Tartan, Rabsaris hoi Rabshakeh cae to angmah ih kalen koek misatuh angraeng hoi nawnto Lakish vangpui hoiah Hezekiah siangpahrang khaeah Jerusalem ah patoeh. Nihcae loe Jerusalem ah angzoh o tahang moe, kahni pasuk kami ih lawk bang caehhaih loklam ranui ih kangbuem tuili taengah anghak o.
Then the king of Assyria sent the Tartan and the Rab-saris and the Rab-shakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, to King Hezekiah, with a strong force. And they went up and came to Jerusalem, and took up their position by the stream of the higher pool, by the highway of the washerman's field.
18 Nihcae mah siangpahrang to kawk o naah, siangpahrang im ukkung Hilkiah capa Eliakim, ca tarikkung Shebna, hmuenmae pakuemkung Asaph capa Joah cae loe nihcae khaeah caeh o.
And they sent for the king, and Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to them.
19 RabShakeh mah nihcae khaeah, Hezekiah khaeah hae tiah thui pae oh; Lensawk, Assyria siangpahrang mah, Tih hmuen maw nang oep o haih?
And the Rab-shakeh said to them, Say now to Hezekiah, These are the words of the great king, the king of Assyria: In what are you placing your hope?
20 Misatuk kophaih hoi thacakhaih ka tawnh, tiah amsawnlok na thuih o; kai tuk hanah mi maw nang oep o haih?
You say you have a design, and strength for war, but these are only words. Now to whom are you looking for support, that you have gone against my authority?
21 Vaihiah khenah, nangcae loe angkhaek thaih sakrungkung, tiah thuih ih, Izip kaminawk nuiah ni nam ha o; to sakrungkung nuiah amha kami loe, sakrungkung mah ban quk puet moe, ahmaa caaksak baktiah ni na om o tih; Izip siangpahrang Faro mah, anih nuiah amha kaminawk boih loe to tiah sah tih.
See, now, you are basing your hope on that broken rod of Egypt, which will go through a man's hand if he makes use of it for a support; for so is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all who put their faith in him.
22 Toe nangcae mah kai khaeah, Kaicae loe kaimacae ih Angraeng Sithaw khaeah ni kam ha o, tiah na thuih o nahaeloe, anih ih hmuensangnawk hoi hmaicamnawk loe, Hezekiah mah phraek boih boeh; Judah hoi Jerusalem kaminawk khaeah, Nangcae loe Jerusalem vangpui ah hae ih hmaicam hmaa ah sithaw to bok oh, tiah ang thuih o na ai maw?
And if you say to me, Our hope is in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and altars Hezekiah has taken away, saying to Judah and Jerusalem that worship may only be given before this altar in Jerusalem?
23 To pongah vaihi angzo oh loe, kai ih angraeng Assyria siangpahrang khaeah hmuenmae to ap oh; hrang angthueng kami na tawnh o nahaeloe, hrang sang hnetto kang paek han.
And now, take a chance with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to put horsemen on them.
24 Ka angraeng ih tamnanawk thung ih kathoeng koek misatuh angraeng mataeng doeh kawbangmaw na pazawk o thai tih? Izip prae hoiah hrang lakok hoi hrang angthueng kaminawk abomhaih ka hnu tih, tiah oephaih na tawnh o maw?
How then may you put to shame the least of my master's servants? and you have put your hope in Egypt for war-carriages and horsemen:
25 Angraeng ih lok om ai ah, hae prae paro hanah kang zoh maw? Angraeng mah hae prae hae tuk moe, phraek hanah lok ang thuih boeh, tiah a naa.
And have I now come up to send destruction on this place without the Lord's authority? It was the Lord himself who said to me, Go up against this land and make it waste.
26 To pacoengah Hilkiah capa Eliakim, Shebna hoi Joah cae mah, misatuh angraeng RabShakeh khaeah, Kaicae loe Syria lok ka thaih o kop pongah, tahmenhaih hoiah na tamnanawk khaeah, Syria lok hoiah na thui ah; sipae nuiah kaom kaminawk kangthaih ah Hebru lok hoiah na thui hmah, tiah a naa o.
Then Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna and Joah said to the Rab-shakeh, Will you kindly make use of the Aramaean language in talking to your servants, for we are used to it, and do not make use of the Jews' language in the hearing of the people on the wall.
27 Toe misatuh angraeng mah, Nangcae hoi nangcae ih angraeng khae khue ah thuih han ih maw ka angraeng mah kai hae ang patoeh? Sipae nuiah anghnu kaminawk doeh nangcae hoi nawnto, angmacae ih aek to caak o moe, angmacae ih tamzuntui to naek o hanah, sipae nuiah anghnu kaminawk khaeah doeh thuih hanah ang patoeh na ai maw? tiah a naa.
But the Rab-shakeh said to them, Is it to your master or to you that my master has sent me to say these words? has he not sent me to the men seated on the wall? for they are the people who will be short of food with you when the town is shut in.
28 To pacoengah misatuh angraeng loe angdoet, Hebru lok hoiah hangh moe, angraeng, Assyria siangpahrang ih lok hae tahngai oh!
Then the Rab-shakeh got up and said with a loud voice in the Jews' language, Give ear to the words of the great king, the king of Assyria;
29 Siangpahrang mah hae tiah thuih; Hezekiah mah ang ling o hmah nasoe; anih ban thung hoiah anih mah pahlong thai tang mak ai.
This is what the king says: Do not be tricked by Hezekiah, for there is no salvation for you in him.
30 Hezekiah mah nangcae khaeah, Angraeng mah aicae pahlong tangtang tih; hae vangpui hae Assyria siangpahrang ban ah paek mak ai, tiah ang thuih o ih lok hoiah Angraeng to oep o hmah.
And do not let Hezekiah make you put your faith in the Lord, saying, The Lord will certainly keep us safe, and this town will not be given into the hands of the king of Assyria.
31 Hezekiah ih lok to tahngai pae o hmah; Assyria siangpahrang mah, Angzo oh loe, kai hoi angdaehhaih sah oh; to tiah nahaeloe kaminawk boih mah angmah ih takha thung ih misurthaih to caa o tih, kami boih mah angmah ih thaiduet thaih to caa ueloe, kami boih mah angmah ih tuikhaw thung ih tui to nae o tih;
Do not give ear to Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me; and everyone will be free to take the fruit of his vine and of his fig-tree, and the water of his spring;
32 nangmacae prae hoi kanghmong, cang hoi misurthaih, takaw hoi misur takha, olive situi hoi khoitui ohhaih prae ah, suek hanah kang zo ai karoek to, na dueh o mak ai, na hing o tih; anih mah nangcae khaeah, Angraeng mah nangcae pahlong tih, tiah Hezekiah mah zoek ih lok to tahngai pae o hmah.
Till I come and take you away to a land like yours, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vine-gardens, a land of oil-giving olives and of honey, so that life and not death may be your fate. Give no attention to Hezekiah when he says to you, The Lord will keep us safe.
33 Acaeng kaminawk ih sithawnawk mah Assyria siangpahrang ban thung hoiah prae to pahlong o vai maw?
Has any one of the gods of the nations kept his land from falling into the hands of the king of Assyria?
34 Hamath hoi Arpad ih sithawnawk loe naa ah maw oh o? Sepharvaim, Hena hoi Ivah sithawnawk loe naa ah maw oh o? Nihcae mah Samaria vangpui to ka ban thung hoi pahlong o vai boeh maw?
Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah? have they kept Samaria out of my hands?
35 To acaeng kaminawk ih sithawnawk thungah kawbaktih sithaw mah maw a praenawk to ka ban thung hoiah pahlong vaih? To tiah om nahaeloe kawbangmaw Angraeng mah ka ban thung hoiah Jerusalem to pahlong tih? tiah thuih, tiah a naa.
Who among all the gods of these countries have kept their country from falling into my hands, to give cause for the thought that the Lord will keep Jerusalem from falling into my hands?
36 Toe siangpahrang mah, Anih ih lok pathim pae o hmah, tiah lokpaek pongah, anih ih lok to mi mah doeh pathim pae o ai; anghngai o taak duem.
But the people kept quiet and gave him no answer: for the king's order was, Give him no answer.
37 To pacoengah siangpahrang imthung ukkung Hilkiah capa Eliakim, ca tarikkung Shebna hoi hmuenmae pakuemkung Asaph capa Joah cae loe Hezekiah khaeah caeh o moe, angmacae ih kahni to asih o pacoengah, misatuh angraeng RabShakeh mah thuih ih lok to thuih pae o.
Then Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah, with their clothing parted as a sign of grief, and gave him an account of what the Rab-shakeh had said.
