The Elder, To the chosen lady and her children, whom I sincerely love in truth - and not only I, but also all those who have known the truth -

2 aicae thung kaom aicae hoi dungzan ah kaom hankoi, loktang lok pongah ni kang palung o. (aiōn g165)

because of the truth which lives in us and will be with us forever: (aiōn g165)

3 Pa Sithaw hoi Ampa Sithaw, Angraeng Jesu Kri hoi Ampa ih Capa khae hoiah tahmenhaih, palungnathaih hoi monghaih nangcae khaeah om nasoe.

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and sincere love.

4 Ampa khae hoiah kaalok a hnuk o baktih toengah, na caanawk loktang loklam ah caeh o ti, tiah ka panoek naah paroeai anghoehaih ka tawnh.

I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have been commanded to do by the Father.

5 Nongpata, vaihi nangcae khaeah kaalok kangtha ka tarik ai, tangsuek natuem hoi a tawnh o ih kaalok to ni ka tarik, maeto hoi maeto amlunghaih a tawnh o thai hanah kang pacae o.

Now I ask you, dear lady, not as writing to you a new commandment, but the one which we have had from the beginning, that we sincerely love one another.

6 Anih mah peek ih kaalok baktiah caehhaih loe amlunghaih ah oh. Kaalok pazui hanah tangsuek na hoiah na thaih o boeh, kaalok loe to tiah ni oh.

This is sincere love: that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7 Jesu Kri loe taksa ah angzoh, tiah taphong ai, aling thaih paroeai kaminawk long ah akun o boeh. To baktih kami loe aling thaih kami hoi Kri ih misa ah oh.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world - those who don’t acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Such a one is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 A sak o ih hmuennawk pathlong ving kami na ai, hnuk hankoi tangqum to a hnuk o thai hanah, acoehaih hoiah zing oh.

Watch yourselves, that you might not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may get a full reward.

9 Kri patukhaih pongah om ai ah zaehaih sah kami loe, Sithaw tawn ai kami ni. Kri patukhaih thungah om kami loe, Ampa hoi Capa to tawnh hmaek.

Anyone who doesn’t live in the teaching of Christ, but runs away from it, doesn’t have God. One who lives in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

10 Hae patukhaih tawn ai kami nangcae khaeah angzo nahaeloe, im ah toem o sak hmah, talawk doeh talawk o hmah.

If anyone comes to you and doesn’t bring this teaching, don’t welcome or receive that person into your house,

11 To baktih talawk kami loe kahoih ai anih toksakhaih bomkung ah ni oh.

for the one who welcomes such a person participates in that person’s evil deeds.

12 Nangcae khaeah ca zetpui tarik han ka tawnh, toe caqam hoi catui patoh moe, tarik han ka koeh ai: aicae anghoehaih akoep thai hanah, nangcae khaeah kang zoh moe, mikhmai kang tongah lokthuih han oephaih ka tawnh.

Since I have so many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.

13 Na qoih ih nam nawk nongpata ih caanawk mah ban angsin o. Amen.
