1 Rehoboam Jerusalem vangpui phak naah, Israelnawk to tuk moe, prae to Rehoboam ban ah suek let hanah, Judah hoi Benjamin acaeng thung hoi qoih ih misatuh kami sing ha, sang quitazetto a kok.
And Rehoboam comes to Jerusalem, and assembles the house of Judah and Benjamin—one hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors—to fight with Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.
2 Toe Sithaw ih kami Shemaiah khae hoiah Sithaw ih lok to angzoh;
And a word of YHWH is to Shemaiah, a man of God, saying,
3 Judah siangpahrang Solomon capa Rehoboam, Judah prae thungah kaom Israel kaminawk boih hoi Benjamin khaeah, hae tiah thui paeh;
“Speak to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Angraeng mah, Nam nawkamyanawk tuk hanah caeh tahang hmah; kami boih angmacae im ah amlaem o nasoe; kai mah ni hae hmuennawk hae ka sak, tiah thuih, tiah a naa. Nihcae mah Angraeng ih lok to tahngaih o moe, Jeroboam tuk han ai ah amlaem o let.
Thus said YHWH: You do not go up nor fight with your brothers! Let each return to his house, for this thing has been from Me”; and they hear the words of YHWH, and turn back from going against Jeroboam.
5 Rehoboam loe Jerusalem ah oh moe, Judah to pakaa hanah vangpuinawk to kacakah sak.
And Rehoboam dwells in Jerusalem, and builds cities for a bulwark in Judah,
6 Bethlehem, Elam, Tekoa,
indeed, he builds Beth-Lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7 Berth-Zur, Soko, Adullam,
and Beth-Zur, and Shocho, and Adullam,
and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9 Adoraim, Lakhish, Azekah,
and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10 Zorah, Aijalon hoi Hebron vangpuinawk loe Judah hoi Benjamin ah kaom sipae hoi thungh ih vangpui ah oh o.
and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, that [are] in Judah and in Benjamin, cities of bulwarks.
11 Pop parai misatuh kami to suek moe, misatuh angraengnawk doeh a suek; caaknaeknawk, olive situinawk hoi misurtuinawk boih patung coek;
And he strengthens the bulwarks, and puts leaders in them, and treasures of food, and oil, and wine,
12 vangpui boih ah aphaw hoi tayaenawk to suek moe, kaminawk to thacaksak; to pongah Judah hoi Benjamin loe anih bangah oh o.
and in each and every city [he puts] bucklers and spears, and strengthens them very greatly; and he has Judah and Benjamin.
13 Israel prae thung boih ah kaom Levi hoi qaimanawk boih anih khaeah angzoh o.
And the priests and the Levites that [are] in all Israel have stationed themselves by him, out of all their border,
14 Jeroboam hoi a capanawk loe Levinawk mah Angraeng hmaa ah qaima toksakhaih hoiah anghaksak ving boeh pongah, Levinawk loe a tawnh o ih hmuenmaenawk to angmacae ohhaih ahmuen ah caeh o taak moe, Judah hoi Jerusalem ah angzoh o.
for the Levites have left their outskirts and their possession, and they come to Judah and to Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons have cast them off from acting as priests for YHWH,
15 Jeroboam mah hmuensangnawk, taqawk saenawk hoi a sak ih maitaw caanawk khaeah toksak hanah qaimanawk to tokpaek.
and he establishes for himself priests for high places, and for goat [idols] and for calf [idols] that he made.
16 Toe Israel acaengnawk boih thung hoiah palung tang hoi Angraeng Sithaw pakrong kaminawk loe, angmacae ampanawk ih Angraeng Sithaw khaeah angbawnhaih sak hanah, Levinawk hnukah bang o moe, Jerusalem ah caeh o.
And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, those giving their heart to seek YHWH, God of Israel, have come to Jerusalem to sacrifice to YHWH, God of their father.
17 Nihcae mah Judah prae to thacak o sak, Solomon capa Rehoboam to saning thumto thung to tiah thacak o sak; saning thumto thung David hoi Solomon caehhaih loklam to pazui o.
And they strengthen the kingdom of Judah, and strengthen Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.
18 Rehoboam loe David capa Jerimoth ih canu Mahalath, Jesse capa Eliab canu Abihail to zu ah lak.
And Rehoboam takes a wife for himself, Mahalath, child of Jerimoth son of David, [and of] Abigail daughter of Eliab son of Jesse.
19 Anih mah Jeush, Shamariah hoi Zaham to sak.
And she bears sons to him: Jeush, and Shamaria, and Zaham.
20 Anih lak pacoengah Rehoboam mah Absalom ih canu Maakah to lak let bae, anih mah Abijah, Attai, Ziza hoi Shelomith to sak pae.
And after her he has taken Maachah daughter of Absalom, and she bears to him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 Rehoboam loe zupui hatlaitazetto, zula quitarukto tawnh; capa pumphae tazetto, canu quitarukto a sak, zupui hoi zulanawk boih thungah Absalom ih canu Maakah to anih mah palung kue.
And Rehoboam loves Maachah daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines—for he has taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines—and he begets twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
22 Rehoboam mah Maakah ih capa Abijah to siangpahrang ah suek han poekhaih tawnh pongah, anih to capanawk boih thungah kalen koek ah suek.
And Rehoboam appoints Abijah son of Maachah for head, for leader among his brothers, for to cause him to reign.
23 Anih loe palunghahaih hoiah toksak, Judah hoi Benjamin prae thungah, sipae thungh ih kacak vangpui kruek ah a capanawk to patoeh boih; nihcae hanah caaknaek kapop ah paek moe, zu doeh kapop ah a lak pae.
And he has understanding, and disperses from all his sons to all lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all cities of the bulwarks, and gives provision in abundance to them; and he asks for a multitude of wives [for them].
