< 1 Samuel 1 >

1 Ephra vangpui ah kaom Zuph capa Tohu, Tohu capa, Elihu, Elihu capa Jeroham, Jeroham capa Elkanah loe, Ephraim mae nui ih Ramathaim-Zophim vangpui ah kaom kami maeto ah oh.
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim, a Zuphite of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Toah, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 Anih loe zu hnetto tawnh; maeto loe Hannah, kalah maeto loe Peninnah; Peninnah loe caa sak; toe Hannah loe caa sah ai.
And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Elkanah loe misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng to bok moe, angbawnhaih sak hanah, a ohhaih vangpui hoiah saning kruek Shiloh ah caeh; Angraeng ih qaima Eli capa Hophni hoi Phinehas doeh to vangpui ah oh hoi toeng.
This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of Jehovah, were there.
4 Elkanah loe angbawnhaih tue phak kruek, a zu Penninah, a capa hoi a canunawk hanah thoemto moi to a paek;
When the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and her daughters.
5 toe palung parai pongah Hannah hanah loe moi to kamthlai ah a paek; toe anih to Angraeng mah caa sahsak ai.
But to Hannah he would give a double portion because he loved Hannah. Now Jehovah had kept her from conceiving.
6 Angraeng mah anih to caa kaaksak pongah, a misa mah anih palungphuisak hanah pahruek pae aep aep.
And because Jehovah kept her from conceiving, her rival used to taunt her severely, to irritate her.
7 Saning kruek Angraeng im ah a caeh naah, a misa mah palungphuisak pongah, a qah moe, buh doeh caa ai.
And this went on year after year, as often as she went up to the house of Jehovah, she taunted her; therefore she would weep and refuse to eat.
8 A sava Elkanah mah anih khaeah, Hannah, tipongah na qah moe, buh doeh na caa ai loe? Tipongah palung na set loe? Kai loe nang hanah capa hato pongah doeh ka hoih kue na ai maw? tiah a naa.
And her husband Elkanah said to her, "Hannah, why are you weeping? And why are you not eating? And why are you so sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?"
9 Shiloh vangpui ah buhcaak moe, a naek hoi pacoeng naah, Hannah loe angthawk tahang. Qaima Eli loe Angraeng ih tempul thok taeng ih tangkhang pongah anghnut vop.
So Hannah got up after eating and drinking in Shiloh, and stood before Jehovah. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of Jehovah.
10 Hannah loe palungset parai pongah qah moe, Angraeng khaeah lawkthuih.
And she was greatly distressed and prayed to Jehovah, and wept uncontrollably.
11 To naah Aw misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng, na tamna hae pahnet hmah, kai patangkhanghaih hae khenah, na tamna hae pahnet hmah, capa maeto nang paek nahaeloe, a lu nui ih sam ka aat pae mak ai; a hing thung Angraeng ih toksak hanah ka paek han, tiah a naa.
And she vowed a vow and said, "Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will set him before you as a Nazirite until the day of his death. And he will not drink wine or strong drink, and no razor will come on his head."
12 Angraeng khaeah lawkthuih li naah, Eli mah anih ih pahni ohhaih dan to khet.
Now it happened, as she continued praying before Jehovah, that Eli observed her mouth.
13 Hannah loe palung thung hoiah lawkthuih; pahni loe angtawt, toe lok loe angthai ai; to pongah Eli mah anih loe mu paquih mue, tiah poek.
And she was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.
14 Eli mah anih khaeah, Nazetto maw mu na paquih han vop? Vaihi hoi kamtong mu nae hma laih, tiah a naa.
So Eli said to her, "How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine, and go from before Jehovah."
15 Hannah mah, To tih na ai ni, ka angraeng, kai loe palungsae nongpata ah ka oh; misurtui hoi mu doeh ka nae ai; ka hinghaih Angraeng khaeah ka paek.
And Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah.
16 Na tamna kai hae kahoih ai kami ah poek hmah; palungsethaih hoiah ni lawk ka thuih, tiah a naa.
Do not count your servant as a worthless woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my distress and my anguish."
17 Eli mah, Lunghoihta hoiah caeh ah; Israel Sithaw mah hnik ih hmuen to na paek nasoe, tiah a naa.
Then Eli answered, "Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him."
18 To naah Hannah mah, Na tamna loe na mikcuk naakrak ah om nasoe, tiah a naa. To pacoengah a caeh moe, palungsethaih mikhmai amtueng ai ah, buh to a caak.
She said, "Let your servant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way, and entered her quarters, and ate; and her facial expression wasn't sad any more.
19 Nihcae loe khawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk o moe, Angraeng bok o pacoengah, angmacae ohhaih Ramah vangpui ah amlaem o let; Elkanah mah a zu Hannah to iih haih; Angraeng mah anih to pahnet ai.
They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Jehovah, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Jehovah remembered her.
20 To pongah atue nasetto maw oh pacoengah, Hannah loe zokpomh moe, caa nongpa to tapen; anih mah Angraeng khaeah ka hnik ih kami, tih pongah Samuel, tiah ahmin phui.
It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of Jehovah."
21 Elkanah loe angmah ih canawk boih hoi nawnto, saning kruek angbawnhaih to sak moe, a lokkamhaih akoepsak hanah a caeh tahang.
The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Jehovah the yearly sacrifice, and to redeem his vow and all the tithes of his land.
22 Toe Hannah loe caeh ai; a sava khaeah, Nawkta tahnu amphi ai karoek to ka caeh mak ai; nawkta tahnu amphi pacoengah ni, Angraeng khae tathlang hanah ka caeh han vop, to tiah ni nawkta doeh to ah om poe thai tih, tiah a naa.
But Hannah did not go up; for she said to her husband, "Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah, and stay there forever."
23 A sava Elkanah mah, Hoih, tiah na poek ih baktih toengah sah ah; nawkta tahnu amphi ai karoek to hae ah om ah; a thuih ih lok to Angraeng mah caksak nasoe, tiah a naa. To pongah anih loe nawkta tahnu amphi ai karoek to im ah oh.
Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems good in your eyes. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Jehovah establish what you have said." So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24 Nawkta tahnutui amphii pacoengah loe, maitaw tae thumto, takaw dip ephah maeto hoi misurtui pailang maeto hoi nawnto, nawkta to hoih moe, Angraeng im ah Shiloh ah a caeh. To naah nawkta loe saning paroeai nawk vop.
Then she took him to Shiloh along with a three-year old bull, and bread, and an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. And she came to the house of Jehovah in Shiloh, and the boy was with them. And they went before Jehovah and his father slaughtered the sacrifice, which he did annually to Jehovah. Then he brought the boy,
25 Maitaw tae to boh o moe, nawkta to Eli khaeah caeh o haih.
and he slaughtered the bull. And Hannah, the mother of the boy, brought him to Eli.
26 Hannah mah anih khaeah, Aw ka angraeng, ka angraeng, Na hing baktih toengah, kai loe hae ahmuen ah na taengah angdoet hoiah Angraeng khaeah lawkthui kami to ni.
She said, "Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Jehovah.
27 Hae nawkta ka hnuk thai hanah lawk ka thuih; anih khaeah ka hnik ih hmuen to Angraeng mah paek boeh;
For this child I prayed; and Jehovah has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28 to pongah anih to vaihi Angraeng khaeah ka paek let; a hing thung anih to Angraeng khaeah ka ap han, tiah a naa. To naah anih mah Angraeng to bok.
Therefore also I have lent him to Jehovah. As long as he lives he is lent to Jehovah." Then she left him there, and she worshipped before Jehovah.
