< 1 Samuel 8 >

1 Samuel mitong naah loe a capa hnik to Israel kaminawk lokcaekkung ah suek.
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges to Israel;
2 A calu ih ahmin loe Joel; hnetto haih a capa loe Abijah; nihnik loe Beersheba vangpui ah lokcaekkung ah oh hoi.
and the name of his firstborn son was, Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah, —they were judges in Beer-sheba.
3 Toe a caa hnik loe anih caehhaih loklam ah caeh hoi ai; loklam amkhraeng hoi ving moe, phoisa hoi bokhaih hmuenmaenawk to a lak hoi.
Howbeit his sons walked not in his ways, but stooped to extortion, —and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 To pongah Israel kacoehtanawk boih nawnto amkhueng o pacoengah, Samuel ohhaih Ramah vangpui ah caeh o moe,
So then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, —and came unto Samuel, to Ramah;
5 anih khaeah, Khenah, nang loe mitong boeh, na caa hnik loe na caehhaih loklam to pazui hoi ai; to pongah kalah prae kaminawk baktih toengah, kaicae zaehoikung siangpahrang maeto na qoi paeh, tiah a naa o.
and said unto him—Lo! thou, art old, and, thy sons, walk not in thy ways: Now, appoint for us a king to judge us, like all the nations.
6 Toe nihcae mah, Kaicae zaehoikung siangpahrang na qoi paeh, tiah a naa o; to naah Samuel loe poeknawm ai. To pongah Samuel loe Angraeng khaeah lawkthuih.
But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give unto us a king to judge us. So Samuel prayed unto Yahweh.
7 Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Kaminawk boih mah thuih o ih lok to tahngai ah; nihcae mah nang to pahnawt o ai, nihcae ka uk Kai ni ang pahnawt o.
And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people, in all that they shall say unto thee, —for, not thee, have they rejected, but, me, have they rejected, from being king over them.
8 Izip prae thung hoiah nihcae ka zaehhoih tangsuek nathuem hoi kamtong vaihni ni khoek to a sak o ih tuinuen mah Kai ang pahnawt o moe, kalah sithawnawk ih tok to a sak o; to pongah nang khaeah doeh to tiah sak o.
According to all the doings which they have done, from the day I brought them up out of Egypt, even until this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so, are they doing even unto thee.
9 To pongah vaihi nihcae ih lok to tahngai paeh; toe nihcae khaeah acoehaih lok kacakah thui paeh loe, nihcae ukkung siangpahrang loe kawbangmaw toksah tih, tiah panoeksak ah, tiah a naa.
Now, therefore, hearken to their voice, —save that thou, enter protest, against them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.
10 Samuel mah anih khaeah siangpahrang hnih kaminawk khaeah, Angraeng mah thuih ih loknawk to a thuih pae boih.
So then Samuel spake all the words of Yahweh unto the people, who were asking of him, a king.
11 Anih mah kaminawk khaeah, Nangcae ukkung siangpahrang mah, Na capanawk to kawk ueloe, angmah ih hrang lakok hoi hrang angthueng kami ah omsak tih; thoemto kaminawk loe anih ih hrang lakok hoiah anih hmaa ah cawn kami ah om o tih.
And he said, This, will be the manner of the king who will reign over you, —Your sons, will he take and appoint for himself, as his charioteers and as his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;
12 Thoemto kaminawk to kami cumvaito ukkung, quipangato ukkung ah suem ueloe, anih ih laikok to atok pae o tih; cang aat pae o ueloe, misatukhaih hmuennawk hoi hrang lakoknawk to sah pae o tih.
and he will appoint for himself, princes of thousands, and princes of fifties, —and to plough his fields, and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war, and the instruments of his chariots;
13 Anih mah na canunawk to na la pae ueloe, caaknaek thong kami hoi takaw haek kami ah patoh tih.
And, your daughters, will he take, —as perfumers and as cooks, and as bakers;
14 Siangpahrang mah kahoih koek na lawknawk, misur takha hoi olive takhanawk to la ueloe, angmah ih toksah tamnanawk hanah paek tih.
And, your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best of them, will he take, and give to his servants;
15 Anih mah nang ih anmu hoi misurthaih to hato thungah maeto la ueloe, angmah angraengnawk hoi a toksah tamnanawk hanah paek tih.
And, your seed, and your vineyards, will he tithe, and give to his courtiers and to his servants;
16 Anih mah na tamna nongpanawk hoi nongpatanawk, kahoih koek saning kanawk thendoengnawk hoi hrangnawk to la ueloe, angmah ih tok to sahsak tih.
And, your men-servants, and your maidservants, and your oxen, even the goodliest, and your asses, will he take, —and put them to his work;
17 Anih mah nangmah ih hmuen hato thungah maeto na la pae ueloe, nangcae doeh anih ih tamna ah na om o tih.
Your flocks, will he tithe, —and, ye yourselves, shall become his servants.
18 To na niah loe nangcae mah na qoih o ih siangpahrang pongah, na hang o tih; to naah na hang o haih lok, Angraeng mah tahngai mak ai, tiah a naa.
Then will ye make outcry, in that day, because of your king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, —and Yahweh will not answer you, in that day.
19 Toe kaminawk loe Samuel mah thuih ih lok to tahngai han koeh o ai. Nihcae mah, To tih na ai ni! Kaicae ukkung siangpahrang ka koeh o;
But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel, —and they said—Nay! but, a king, shall be over us:
20 to tiah ni kaicae doeh prae kalah kaminawk baktiah ka om o toeng tih; siangpahrang mah kaicae hae zaehoi ueloe, misatuk hanah, kaicae hmaa ah caeh tih, tiah a naa o.
so shall, even we, become like all the nations, —and our king shall judge us, and go forth before us, and fight our battles.
21 Kaminawk mah thuih ih loknawk boih to Samuel mah thaih naah, Angraeng hmaa ah lawkthuih let.
And Samuel heard all the words of the people, —and spake them in the ears of Yahweh.
22 Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Nihcae ih lok to tahngai paeh loe, siangpahrang maeto qoi paeh, tiah a naa. To naah Samuel mah Israel kaminawk khaeah, Kaminawk nangmacae ohhaih vangpui ah ahloi o boih lai ah, tiah a naa.
And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel: Go ye, every man to his own city.
