< 1 Samuel 5 >
1 Philistinnawk mah Sithaw ih thingkhong lak o ving pacoengah, Ebenezer vangpui hoiah Ashdoh vangpui ah caeh o haih.
After the Philistines captured the Ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
2 Sithaw ih thingkhong to lak o pacoengah, Dagon tempul thungah, Dagon taengah suek o.
They brought the Ark of God into the Temple of Dagon and placed it next to Dagon.
3 Ashdoh vangpui ih kaminawk khawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk o naah loe, khenah, Dagon loe amtimh moe, a mikhmai hoiah Angraeng thingkhong hmaa ih long to daeng mong. Nihcae mah Dagon to pathawk o moe, a ohhaih ahmuen ah suek o let.
When the people of Ashdod got up early the next day, they saw Dagon had fallen on his face in front of the Ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set him back up.
4 Toe khawnbang khawnthaw ah angthawk o naah loe, khenah, Dagon ih mikhmai mah Angraeng ih thingkhong hmaa ah kaom long to daeng mong let bae; Dagon ih lu hoi a bannawk to angkhaeh moe, khongkha taengah anghaeh phang; a taak pum khue to oh sut.
When they got up early the next morning, they saw Dagon had fallen on his face in front of the Ark of the Lord, with his head and hands broken off lying on the doorstep. Only his body remained intact.
5 To pongah Dagon ih qaimanawk hoi Dagon tempul ah kacaeh kaminawk boih mah vaihni ni khoek to Ashdoh vangpui ah kaom Dagon tempul ih khongkha to cawh o ai.
(That's why the priests of Dagon, and all who enter the temple of Dagon in Ashdod, don't tread on the doorstep, even up to now.)
6 Angraeng mah Ashdoh kaminawk hoi to prae thungah kaom kaminawk to kazit angmah ih ban hoi roe ah paro pae; Ashdoh vangpui ah kaom kaminawk to ahlut nathaih hoiah dan a paek.
The Lord punished the people of Ashdod and its surrounding area, devastating them and plaguing them with swellings.
7 To tiah kaom hmuen to Ashdoh ih kaminawk mah hnuk o naah, Israel Sithaw ih Sithaw thingkhong loe, aicae hoi nawnto oh han om ai; anih ih ban loe aicae hoi aicae ih sithaw Dagon nuiah paroeai azit, tiah a thuih o.
When the people of Ashdod saw what was going on, they said, “We can't let the Ark of the God of Israel remain here with us, because he is punishing us and Dagon our god.”
8 To pongah Philistin ukkungnawk boih to kawk moe, Israel kaminawk ih Sithaw thingkhong hae kawbangmaw a sak o han? tiah a naa o. To naah nihcae mah, Israel Sithaw ih thingkhong loe Gath ah thak oh, tiah pathim pae o; to pongah Israel kaminawk Sithaw ih thingkhong to ah a thak o.
So they sent for all the Philistine rulers and asked them, “What should we do with the Ark of the God of Israel?” “Take the Ark of the God of Israel to Gath,” they replied. So they moved it to Gath.
9 Toe Sithaw thingkhong thak o pacoengah, Angraeng ih ban mah to vangpui thungah kalen parai amrohaih to phaksak; vangpui thung ih kaminawk loe nawkta doeh mitong doeh ahlut nathaih to phaksak boih.
But once they'd moved the Ark to Gath, the Lord also took action against that town, throwing it into great confusion and attacking the people of the town, young and old, with a plague of swellings.
10 To pongah nihcae mah Sithaw ih thingkhong to Ekkron vangpui ah thak o. Sithaw ih thingkhong Ekkron vangpui thungah akun naah, Aicae hoi aicae ih kaminawk hum hanah, Israel kaminawk Sithaw ih thingkhong to aicae khaeah thak o boeh, tiah Ekkron vangpui ih kaminawk mah hang o.
So they sent the Ark of God to Ekron, but as soon as it arrived, the leaders of Ekron shouted, “They've moved the Ark of the God of Israel here to kill us and our people!”
11 To pongah Philistin ukkung angraengnawk to kawk hanah kami to patoeh o moe, Israel kaminawk Sithaw ih thingkhong mah, aicae hoi aicae ih kaminawk to hum han ai ah, thak o ving lai ah; angmah ohhaih ahmuen ah caeh let nasoe; Angraeng ih ban loe azit parai pongah, vangpui boih kadueh thaih nathaih hoiah koi boeh.
So they sent for all the Philistine rulers and said, “Send the Ark of the God of Israel away, back to where it came from, otherwise it's going to kill us and our people.” People were dying throughout the town, creating terrible panic, for God's punishment was very hard.
12 Dueh ai ah kaloih kaminawk to ahlut nathaih phaksak moe, vangpui thung ih kaminawk hanghaih lok loe van khoek to phak boeh, tiah a naa o.
Those who didn't die were plagued with swellings, and the cry for help from the town reached up to heaven.
