< 1 Samuel 4 >

1 Samuel ih lok to Israel kaminawk boih khaeah amthang. Israel kaminawk loe Philistinnawk tuk hanah caeh o moe, Ebenezer taengah atai o; toe Philistinnawk loe Aphek ah atai o.
And Samuel's words came to all Israel. And Eli grew very old, and his sons kept advancing in their wicked behavior before YHWH. And it came to pass in those days that the Philistines gathered themselves together against Israel. And Israel went out to meet them in battle, and camped beside Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped in Aphek.
2 Philistinnawk loe Israel kaminawk to tuk hanah amsak o: misa a tuk o naah Israel kaminawk to pazawk o; misatukhaih ahmuen ah nihcae mah Israel kaminawk sang palito hum pae o.
The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.
3 Ataihaih ahmuen hoiah kaminawk amlaem o naah, Israel kacoehtanawk mah, Tipongah vaihniah Angraeng mah Philistinnawk hmaa ah misa ang sungsak? tiah lok angdueng o. Shiloh vangpui ih Angraeng ih thingkhong to aimacae khaeah sin o si, to tiah nahaeloe thingkhong mah misa ban thung hoiah na loisak tih, tiah a thuih o.
When the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, "Why has YHWH struck us today before the Philistines? Let us get the ark of YHWH out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies."
4 To pongah Cherubim salakah kaom, misatuh kaminawk ih Angraeng Sithaw ih lokkamhaih thingkhong to sin hanah, Shiloh vangpui ah kami to patoeh o; Eli capa Hophni hoi Phinehas loe Sithaw ih thingkhong ohhaih ahmuen ah oh hoi.
So the people sent to Shiloh; and they brought from there the ark of YHWH, who sits above the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark.
5 Nihcae ataihaih ahmuen ah Angraeng ih thingkhong phak naah, Israel kaminawk loe long anghuen khoek to a hang o.
When the ark of YHWH came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
6 Nihcae hanghaih lok Philistin kaminawk mah thaih o naah, Tipongah Hebru kaminawk ataihaih ahmuen hoiah hae tih khoek to a hang o vai? tiah a thuih o. To pacoengah nihcae ataihaih ahmuen ah Angraeng ih thingkhong phak boeh, tiah nihcae mah panoek o.
When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, "What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?" They understood that the ark of YHWH had come into the camp.
7 To pongah Philistin kaminawk loe zit o; nihcae mah, Sithaw loe nihcae ataihaih ahmuen ah phak boeh. Aicae loe khosak bing boeh! Hae baktih hmuen hae canghniah om vai ai vop.
The Philistines were afraid, for they said, "Gods have come into the camp." They said, "Woe to us. For there has not been such a thing before.
8 Khosak bing boeh! Hae thacak Sithawnawk ih ban thung hoiah mi mah maw aicae hae pahlong thai tih? Hae Sithawnawk loe praezaek ah Izip kaminawk nathaih hoiah hum Sithaw ah oh o.
Woe to us. Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
9 Aw Philistinnawk, Israel kaminawk loe nangcae ih misong ah oh o baktih toengah, Hebru kaminawk ih misong ah a oh o han ai ah, thacak o sak loe, nongpa baktiah om oh, nongpa baktiah thacak o sak loe, misa to tuh oh, tiah a thuih o.
Be strong, and behave like men, O you Philistines, that you not be servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Strengthen yourselves like men, and fight."
10 To tiah Philistinnawk loe misatuk o; to naah Israel kaminawk sung o moe, angmacae ohhaih ahmuen ah cawnh o; kami paroeai hum pae o; khok hoi misatuh Israel kaminawk sang quithumto duek o.
So they fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
11 Sithaw ih thingkhong to misanawk mah lak pae o ving; Eli capa Hophni hoi Phinehas doeh duek hoi hmaek.
The ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
12 To na niah Benjamin acaeng maeto loe misa angtukhaih ahmuen hoiah cawnh moe, Shiloh vangpui to a phak; a khukbuen doeh prawn boih boeh moe, a lu doeh maiphu cing ah oh.
There ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn, and with earth on his head.
13 Anih to ah phak naah, Eli loe loklam taengah anghnuthaih tangkhang nuiah anghnut; Sithaw ih thingkhong to mawnhaih palung hoiah a zing; to kami vangpui thungah akun moe, tamthang a thuih pae naah, avang boih qah o.
When he came, look, Eli was sitting on his seat by the side of the gate watching the road, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. When the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
14 Eli mah kaminawk qahhaih lok to thaih naah, Tipongah hae tiah qahhaih lok to oh? tiah a dueng. To kami loe karangah cawnh moe, Eli khaeah, tamthang to thuih pae.
When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, "What does the noise of this tumult mean?" The man hurried, and came and told Eli.
15 Anih loe saning quitakawtto oh boeh; a mik amtueng ai boeh pongah, kho hnu thai ai boeh.
Now Eli was ninety-eight years old; and his eyes were set, so that he could not see.

The man said to Eli, "I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army." He said, "How did the matter go, my son?"
17 Misa puenhaih hoi angzo kami mah, Israel kaminawk loe Philistin kaminawk hmaa hoiah cawnh o, paroeai misatuh kaminawk doeh duek o; na capa Hophni hoi Phinehas hnik doeh duek hoi hmaek boeh; Sithaw ih thingkhong doeh misanawk mah lak o ving boeh, tiah a naa.
He who brought the news answered, "Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."
18 Sithaw ih thingkhong kawng a thuih pae naah, Eli loe khongkha taeng anghnuthaih ahmuen hoiah hnukbang ah amtimh kawngh; tahnong angkhaeh poek moe, a duek. Anih loe mitong boeh pongah, takpum doeh azit parai boeh. Anih mah Israel kaminawk saning quipalito thung zaehhoih.
It happened, when he made mention of the ark of God, that Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man, and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.
19 Anih ih langah Phinehas ih zu loe, zokpom moe, nawkta oh tom boeh; anih mah, misanawk mah Sithaw ih thingkhong lak o ving boeh moe, amqang hoi a sava doeh duek boeh ti, tiah tamthang thaih naah, nawkta oh hanah zoknat pae pongah, zok kana patanghaih hoiah a oh.
His daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered. When she heard the news that the ark of God was taken, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth; for her pains came on her.

And she named the boy Ichabod, because of the ark of God, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
22 Misa mah Sithaw ih thingkhong lak ving boeh pongah, lensawkhaih mah Israel to caehtaak ving boeh, tiah a thuih.
She said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."
