It happened in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, "Know assuredly that you are to go out with me to battle, you and your men."
2 David mah, Na tamna mah timaw ka sakthaih, tito na panoek, tiah a naa. To pongah Akhish mah, ka hinghaih toepkung ah kang suek poe han, tiah a naa.
David said to Achish, "Therefore you shall know what your servant will do." Achish said to David, "therefore I will make you my bodyguard for ever."
3 To naah Samuel to duek pongah, Israel kaminawk boih mah anih to qah o haih pacoengah, angmah ih vangpui Ramah ah anih to aphum o. Saul mah ma-uih hoi kadueh pakhra kawkthaih kaminawk to prae thung hoiah tamit boih boeh.
Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had removed the mediums, and spiritists, from the land.
4 Philistin kaminawk angzoh o moe, Shunem vangpui ah atai o; to naah Saul mah doeh Israel kaminawk to pakhueng boih moe, Gilboa ah atai o toeng.
The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and camped in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they camped in Gilboa.
5 Saul mah Philistin misatuh kaminawk to hnuk naah zit moe, paroeai tasoehhaih palungthin to tawnh.
When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
6 Saul mah Angraeng khaeah hnik naah, Angraeng mah amang ah doeh, Urim hoi tahmaanawk khae hoiah doeh pathim pae ai.
When Saul inquired of YHWH, YHWH did not answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
7 To pongah Saul mah a taengah kaom kaminawk khaeah, Kai hanah kadueh pakhra kawk thaih nongpata maeto pakrong oh; anih khaeah ka caeh moe, lok ka dueng han vop, tiah a naa. Nihcae mah, Endor vangpui ah kadueh pakhra kawk thaih nongpata maeto oh, tiah a thuih pae o.
Then Saul said to his servants, "Find for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her." His servants said to him, "Look, there is a woman who is a medium at Endor."
8 To pongah Saul loe kalah khukbuen to angkhuk moe, krang angthlaeng pacoengah, khoving naah angmah ih kami hnetto hoi nawnto nongpata khaeah caeh; anih mah, Kadueh pakhra to lokdueng ah, kang thuih ih ahmin to kai hanah na kawk paeh, tiah a naa.
Saul disguised himself, and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. And he said, "Divine a spirit for me, please, and bring up for me the one whom I name to you."
9 Toe to nongpata mah anih khaeah, Khenah, Saul mah kadueh pakhra kawk thaih kaminawk hoi mauihnawk to prae thung hoiah haek boih boeh, tiah na panoek boeh; tipongah kai paduek hanah thaang nang patung loe? tiah a naa.
The woman said to him, "Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and spiritists out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?"
10 Saul mah nongpata khaeah, Angraeng loe hing baktih toengah, hae hmuen pongah danpaekhaih tidoeh om mak ai, tiah a naa.
But Saul swore to her, saying, "As YHWH lives, no punishment will come upon you for this thing."
11 To pongah to nongpata mah, Mi maw kang kawk pae han? tiah a naa. Anih mah, Samuel to na kawk paeh, tiah a naa.
Then the woman said, "Whom shall I bring up to you?" He said, "Bring Samuel up for me."
12 To nongpata mah Samuel to hnuk naah, Tha hoiah hangh moe, Saul khaeah, Tipongah nang ling loe? Nang loe Saul na ai maw? tiah a naa.
When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, "Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul."
13 Siangpahrang mah anih khaeah, Zii hmah, timaw na hnuk? tiah a naa. Nongpata mah, Long thung hoi tacawt tahang sithawnawk to ka hnuk, tiah a naa.
The king said to her, "Do not be afraid. For what do you see?" The woman said to Saul, "I see a god coming up out of the earth."
14 Saul mah, Anih ih krang loe kawbangmaw oh? tiah a naa. Nongpata mah, Kahni kasawk angkhuk, mitong maeto angzoh tahang, tiah a naa. To naah Saul mah anih loe Samuel boeh ni, tiah panoek pongah, takhumh moe, long ah akuep tathuk.
He said to her, "What does he look like?" She said, "An old man comes up. He is covered with a robe." Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and showed respect.
15 Samuel mah Saul khaeah, Tipongah raihaih paek hanah nang kawk tahang loe? tiah a naa. Saul mah, Philistinnawk mah kai ang tuk o pongah, ka poekhaih angpho parai; Sithaw mah kai angqoi taak boeh moe, ka lok doeh pathim ai boeh; tahmaanawk khae hoi doeh, amang ah doeh na pathim ai boeh; to pongah timaw ka sak han angaih, tiah nang hnuksak hanah kang kawk, tiah a naa.
And Samuel said, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" And Saul answered, "I am very distressed, for the Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me and no longer answers me, either by prophets, or by dreams. So therefore I have called on you, that you may make known to me what I should do."
16 Samuel mah, Angraeng mah ang caehtaak moe, nang ih misa ah oh boeh, tiah na panoek boeh to mah, tih hanah kai khaeah lok nang dueng vop loe?

YHWH has done to you as he spoke by me. YHWH has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, even to David.

Because you did not obey the voice of YHWH, and did not execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore YHWH has done this thing to you this day.

Moreover YHWH will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons with you will fall. YHWH will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines."

And the woman came to Saul and saw that he was terrified, and said to him, "Look, your servant has obeyed you, and I have put my life in my hand and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.
22 Vaihi na tamna nongpata ih lok to tahngaih loe, na caeh naah tha oh let thai hanah, caaknaek zetta kang paek han, tiah a naa.
Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your servant, and let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength, when you go on your way."

But he refused, and said, "I will not eat." But his servants, together with the woman, pressed him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the ground, and sat on the bed.
24 Nongpata mah angmah im ih kathawk parai maitaw caa maeto karangah boh; takaw to a lak moe, taeh thuh ai ah takaw to haek:
The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it.
25 Takaw to Saul hoi angmah ih kaminawk hmaa ah patoem pae; nihcae mah caak o. To pacoengah nihcae loe angthawk o moe, to na qum ah a caeh o.
She brought it before Saul, and before his servants; and they ate. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
